Re: The RPG Homebrew Extravanganza Thread

Slight variation - introducing too much Spiral Energy into slipspace corrodes the borders of reality, mixing not only Base Reality and the Dreamworld, but also Domains and AUs. The "layers" are the last semblances of order, and even they start to blend and fall apart as the warp grows.

You could even have Dreamwalkers meeting their dreaming selves, having fallen into the Warp from Base Reality and the Dreamworld, respectively. (man, talk about a mindfuck)

Also, what happens to the Warp when the DGD go charging in guns blazing and gods dying?

    warp layer ideas:
    Zdzislaw Beksinski
    Hieronymus Bosch

Ohohohohoho these are ideas. I can use these. Hold on, there's inspiration coming

Warp Storms. The Warp is leaking, tearing up chunks of everything else. The Spiral Nemesis is beginning: soon, the Warp will consume everything, and then collapse upon itself, forever. The Anti-Spiral King is trying his damndest to slow the process, but he is slowly losing himself to the Warp.

As to what happens to the Warp when the DGD goes in, well, the Chaos Gods don't actually control the Warp. They just get killed. By this time, the ASK has become so desperate the stop the Nemesis that he effectively is the Warp, in a last-ditch effort to control it. The DGD charges in, guns blazing and gods dying and layers collapsing into each other until they reach Finality, and then they meet the Anti-Spiral King, who by this point has reached his own absolute despair: he still believes that he can stop the Nemesis and that the DGD will cause it, even though it's happening right around him.

Then we get Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann vs. Grand Zamboa.

And then things go super, and the DGD is literally fighting the whole power of the Warp itself.

    And then basically this:

Essentially, the force of the battle causes the "physical" warp to start collapsing in on itself into a singularity, focused on the ASK. And then Simon punches the fuck out of him, kills him, and with the ASK's death, so dies the Warp. (And we could have it that slipspace is rebuilt as the Warp is destroyed or something)

There's something in here that doesn't make sense, I'm sure of it, but it's late and here's how it is.

Maybe it's better if slipspace is destroyed. Old things pass and new things begin, and all that.
Also, it precludes the Warp opening again.

    e. also, a no-holds-barred, all-cylinders-firing Invasion of the Warp campaign would be incredibly fucking epic

Re: The RPG Homebrew Extravanganza Thread

Hokay people. I sat down and wrote down pretty much every IDE left in the tank and all remaining work that needs to be done before before we can get some real beta fluff here.

    IDEs

    • There is only one Piece of Eden, the Apple. It is actually an Angelic artifact related to Adam, and will fall into the hands of the Templars, which will eventually sorta merge with the Illuminati to form the basis of SEELE.
    • The Black Mesa incident took place in 1998 - The SCP Foundation managed to open a portal to Xen, but of course it ended up going fuck-all awful. On-site warheads detonated, written off as a test of clean nukes. No Combine invasion here. (Unless we tweak them and have them replace the Overlords. Actually, that's an interesting idea. Angels are actually coming to drive off the Combine hmmm HOLY SHIT THAT IS PERFECT.)
    • More Combine-controlled territory is met in to 4000s or 5000s.
    • Sherlock has been added, combining the two movies for ease of adaptation.
    • IDE to work in Bastion: after the BoT goes into stasis, the cube ends up on that planet and the Caels build the Bastion around it. Calamity happens, (possible Anti-spiral cleanup), Bastion takes off with survivors, arrives on Holy Terra just in time for the Great Fucking Up of Shit.

Now, things that need to be done. If you can offer any assistance here, PLEASE don't hesitate to whip something up and postificate it.

    • Entries for the Eliacube and Dragons are underway.
    • Going to need entries for Qilby, Chibi, the Brotherhood of Tofu, Holmes, Vortigaunts, and the Combine Union.
    • Quotes. Still need a lot of quotes for entries.
    • Still need a load of scientific names.
    • Getting rid of batarians as a single entry, make it all minor races of ME.
    • Eras 6 and 7 need new names (song titles)
    • The GM appendix will include: Notable AUs/Domains, Notable SCPs, the Fears, Paranormal Terms, Notable Angels, Types of Anti-Spirals, Notable Alchemists, Notable Contractees, and a list of paranormal institutions.
    • Add in the Combines.

Notable Angels: (in no particular order)
    Zeruel (no shit)
    Arael (note double-helix shape)
Leliel (somehow has an attached domain)
    Armisael (?)
    Iruel (?)
    Bardiel (?)
    Ramiel (?)
    Tabris/Kaworu Nagisa (optional, see below)

I have to say I really like the idea of providing optional/alternate theories for various secret events/IDEs, as has been alluded to previously.
I'd say leave the identities of the EVA pilots ambiguous (save Rei), to leave open the possibility of Angel-fighting campaigns. (also, best DMPC ever)

You're giving me too much credit: that's just Terrifying Rei from Nobody Dies. She's terrifying.

As far as Angels go, I'm going to go with the Nobody Dies interpretations where I can. So far I have:

Iruel:An absolutely repugnant monster, to the point where the other Angels see him as an irredeemable bastard.
Zeruel: "Big Z": the asshole big brother, fucks shit up.
Arael: Sorta acts as an intermediary or messenger. Very unique verbal tic. Example from the fic proper:
"You will [Hello, (Damnation and {Disgusting sycophant} horrors) brother] be silent, Iruel [Loki (Coyote {Sammael})]. You will be made to serve [serve (serve {serve us} our plans) Complimentation] the salvation of all our people."

Armisael: Almost benevolent, generally noncombatant, makes life grow around him.

Also, the Angel motivation is now to destroy / cut off the Combine (the Benefactors may be on the same level as Incubators) and protect humanity (we just don't realize it). They're trying to recombine with Adam for that goal.

In addition, there's one more bit to the GM guide: random notes, secrets, suggestions, variables and details that don't fit anywhere else. Such as (though these are not the exact words I will use:

    • By your preference, Angels may speak or not, or appear as whole species or individuals.
    • Everyone on the Bones knows about the Bull-Head Traders: they're called that because of the faces on the hulls of their ships.
    • There was a group of knights during the 3rd Crusade who could only be considered a combination of the Power Rangers and the Cutie Mark crusaders.
    • Covenant war strategy is based on three factors: superior technology (especially in space), superior numbers (they do not do "covert insertions" or "occupying forces". They go "Send Grunts in as cannon fodder until the enemy is drowning in blood), and zealotry. (Even the lowest of Grunts will not hesitate to pull out a plasma grenade and scream "ISSAE TCHA HAELOUN! [I walk the Path])

Small stuff like that. Can't have too much of it, and they're easy to think up.

EDIT: Era names are done, unless anyone has better suggestions.

    Era 0: A Proper Story
Era 1: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid
    Era 2: Cats On Mars
Era 3: Ain't No Rest For The Wicked
Era 4: When the Levee Breaks
Era 5: Every Planet We Reach Is Dead
    Era 6: New World Order
    Era 7: The Emperor Arrives

That last one...Just think about it...shudders.

What have I created. WHAT HAVE I DONE.

Sup dawg. So I heard you like homebrew, so I put some homebrew in your homebrew thread.

More specifically, it's a rules-light system, taking inspiration from Nobilis, Mage, and Fate, designed to allow for quick play and gameplay that's at least somewhat balanced.

I'm aware that there's already a homestuck RPG out there, but it seems a bit rules-heavy and clunky for me. I'd prefer systems that leave things more up to the players, so I just whipped this together. Given that it's new, and completely untested, I have no doubt it's going to have blatant flaws, or miss important things, so any feedback you guys could provide would be highly appreciated.

Link (has both the rules and a character sheet) here: http://min.us/mW8hAhKba

So we could homebrew while homebrewin'?

Gave it a quick read over, looks pretty good, though I think a list of example conditions would probably be handy addition, just to illustrate the idea more.

Re: The RPG Homebrew Extravanganza Thread

So, I've been thinking up a BHC forum campaign that I'd like to run sometime over the summer, dealing with contractees and apocalyptic cults and witches in Victorian London's paranormal underworld.

But I need a system for it. I wan't something fairly rules-light, but with a dedicated combat system that is simple, fast (battles take like 3-5 "turns" total) and easy to make abilities for. Any ideas (either for existing systems or homebrew ideas)?

Mini d6 looks to be a good one to check out. Since you have no aliens to deal with, it'll take a lot less work than it would in later eras.

Also, minor change to the big document: Dracula returns as Alucard from Hellsing. More specifically, the Helling Ultimate Abridged version of Alucard.

"And I'm Carmen Sandiego. Guess where I am!"

Re: The RPG Homebrew Extravanganza Thread

Finally got around to figuring out how Assassin's Creed goes in.

Basically there are two Apples of Eden, which are sort of "control modules" Altair gets the Adamite one, hides it, it gets stolen by the Templars, and is used in the Contact Experiment, which initiates Second Impact (because SEELE is stupid and don't read the labels on things). Ezio finds the Lilithian one, which is also stolen by the Templars, ends up in the hands of SEELE, which was going to be used in Third Impact (possibly as the core of EVA-01?).

EDIT: AAAAAAAND UPDATED! We are now in ALPHA!

    WOW.

    JUST.

    WOW.

Just read the whole doc, and it's impressive how much more there is, and how much more cohesive it is. I was gonna complain about the lack of Incubators, until I looked through the appendices. The fact that they only appear there is terrifying on a metafictional level.

Phazon, Metroids, the Combine, and possibly Chibi and Qilby still need entries. Do you want to do the remaining appendices by yourself, or leave them to open editing?
There's an number of half-finished sentences. I flagged what I could find, but another once-over couldn't hurt.

Okay, fixed those sentences. Combine entry is in the works, and I'll get to those others.

As far as those appendixes go, the only ones I really need more on are Contractees, SCPs, AUs, and Notes and Details. The rest just need to be fleshed out.

So far for those we have:
Contractees: Dr. Faustus, Shakespeare (we did say him, yes?), the Beetles
    SCPS: 882, 217, 008, 239
AUs: Shit Narnia, Universe-093, Xen, SPC
    Notes:

And I still have three Space Marine legions who need renamed in referencey goodness, and I'm stumped: Emperor's Children (Need to be somehow related to heavy metal. Dethklok looks to be out because I already have the Death Eaters and Death Stars), the 11th Legion (who has gone completely missing.), and the Thousand Sons (Really doesn't matter what they get turned into)

EDIT: And just because it's awesome, here are all the Supernatural Groups of Interest that are on the list:

    Ohoho...this is fun

EDIT EDIT: Okay. More brainstorming and I have an...interesting theory to test. This is going to sound crazy, so hold on to your hats.

There is a source to the SCPs. Something that has created every single one of them. The only people who know of it are the Foundation O5s, and maybe SEELE, the Foundation calls it the Factory, but that's just how it manifests in our reality. It's always existed, and things have always leaked through, but shit really hit the fan in 1835 (basing all this off of this Foundation Tale), when someone went and actually built the thing. Of course, the Factory is just a conduit for the Source: it's on the same scale as the Incubators.

This is why there are more SCPs in a certain period, but so few before or after: the Factory existed, and was a conduit to the Source.

Furthermore, most of these organizations are linked. There has always been a Foundation of some form, even if that was just a tribal shaman guarding a "sacred" cave. The first true "Foundation" was with the Greeks, then the Romans, and so on.

Now then, the Foundation as we know it is an amalgamation of other institutions: the Old Foundation ("officially" founded in 1875, officially structured in 1911), Delta Green (founded in 1927, after the Innsmouth Incident), M-EPIC (Canadian version of Delta Green), the Harker Institute (Hellsing split from the Institute, believing that SCPs should be used, rather than contained), the Order of the Sword of St. Gerome (which still maintains some independence), and the like.

The earliest known puppet organization to SEELE were the Knights Templar. The Freemasons and Illuminati were next, then they got Majestic-12 and Karotechia (i.e. Nazis), then they moved on to Gehirn and Nerv.

I CAN'T EVEN HOLD ALL THESE CONSPIRACIES.

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

In other news, Tabris has actually been adapted to do something worthwhile: he kills Dr. Breen and takes down the Overwatch.

And also, have the entry for the Phazon Crisis:

c.9700 – The “Phazon Crisis” begins. Numerous worlds within Federation space, including Tallon IV, Aether, Norion, Bryyo, and Elysia, as well as major Space Pirate homeworlds such as Urtraghus and Zebes are hit by meteorites bearing the contaminant phazon, in fact a form of Reaper indoctrination paving the way for a new invasion. The corruption slowly spreads as fallen worlds send out leviathans of their own for the next several centuries, but is eventually contained by the Federation with the use of metroids: chozo bioweapons used to clean up corrupted environments.

The more I add, the more that needs to be added.

The Ing and Vriska have been added. Main list entries to complete are as follows:

    Gamzee
    Combine
    Phazon
    Metoids
    Luminoth
    Several minor races from Metroid

    Also, finals week begins. Ugh.

You're like Sisyphus, if Sisyphus worked in Google Docs.

Let me add a few more to that pile.
    Cave Story (era 5, maybe?)
Some of the Virches we took out might work as AUs or domains, if they're interesting enough to use
    Laputa/Castle in the Sky
    Mario (15th-16th century)
Princess Peach of Mycocea on the Italian Peninsula is captured by Bowser II, "Dragon King" of France, as his bride. International diplomatic crisis is narrowly averted when, in an unlikely turn of events, Peach is recovered by her castle plumber, who had chased the kidnappers from castle to castle from Mycocea into France.

I was under the impression that Tabris was just there so GMs could make players question their sexuality.

    1) So true. So true
    2) Cave Story is easy enough to add in. I'll just drop it in the notes and details.
    3) Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress are already in notes and details as a rogue terraforming nanoplague and a planet, respectively.
    4) Same as with Cave Story.
    5) You magnificent bastard.
    6) "Quirk, my character is in lesbians with Tabris."
    "That's a dude."
"Oh. Well then. I am very confused right now."

EDIT: new appendix added - Minor Alien Races. It's time to play GUESS! THAT! REFERENCE!

    Good news, everyone!

Gamzee, phazon, and the Apples are in. Now it's just the Combine, Metroids, and the Luminoth to go for main listers.

Fun fact: Gamzee kills Doc Scratch. In single combat.

Fun Fact #2 There was something called a Humetroid cut from Metroid Prime 2. It ain't cut here.

It's small-scale enough, unless you have a way to make it fit into the greater timeline.

    Main list entries are done.

All that is left to do are quotes, some scientific names, and appendixes.

Re: The RPG Homebrew Extravanganza Thread

Wait a sec - I think the Church of the Broken/Mended God deserves a main list entry, due to their relation to C'tan's egg later in the timeline.

Also, is 682 just a chaos god, or is he contained by the Foundation prior to escape and eventual ascension, or is it a DM by DM thing?

Are there going to be descriptions of the layers of the Warp?

    Also:

Grisamentum: A notorious London gangster at the turn of the twentieth century, he initially avoided persecution by forging a close relationship with the police, the Harker Institute and the 12th Warehouse. He or his lackeys created prodigious amounts of SCP items, and he may have been involved in the creation of items for Marshall, Carter and Dark, Ltd. He was eventually killed in a failed plot to rewrite the laws of reality in his image, which involved his transformation into an SCP object, in conjunction with several other powerful SCPs.

The Harker Institute for Supernatural Studies: A Victorian Era organization dedicated to studying, containing and using SCP and EIA objects. Notable for its relaxed attitudes towards cross-testing and the creation of new SCP objects. The Institute was generally ineffectual at combating or policing London's thriving paranormal underworld, and was usually unable to secure, recover or guard objects desired by underworld factions. The Institute went into decline after WWI, and it and the objects it contained were absorbed by the SCP Foundation shortly after the latter's founding in 1946. Most of the objects it contained are considered Safe or Euclid under Foundation classification.

edit: are pictures ever coming back, or are they just too much of a formatting hassle?
