    The RPG Homebrew Extravanganza Thread

    3/12/12: SUPER OP RE-WRITE.

ATTENTION ALL This thread is now The RPG Homebrew Extranvaganza. , a home for all your random tabletop projects that may or may not ever be completed. If you have a nice little homebrew game/ruleset/setting they want to share, post it here, and I'll add it to the OP.

All of this stuff is free to use for your own RPs. Just make sure to tell me how it goes

    Quirk's Stuff

THE ENCHIRIDION ALTERNIA - A fanon EU trollverse I cooked up a while back. More traditional sci-fi for the trolls, but ripe for your roleplaying needs. Probably not going to be updated in the future, but if something strikes your fancy or you get inspired, add something in. OPEN FOR EDITS.

LIBRUS - A setting / game within in infinite library. Currently in half-baked status, and I don't think I'll be doing much with it in the future. OPEN FOR EDITS ANYWAY.

THE BIG HONKING CROSSOVER - A huge (read: gigantic) crossover setting, containing pretty much whatever you could ever desire. CLOSED FOR EDITS: BETA RELEASE INCOMING.

    Namboto

RIMCAST - A homebrew fantasy setting.

    swampmist1142

PROJECT CLASS-VELUTION - Like D&D, but with real class trees.

    Damian_River_Bandit

TEARS OF BLOOD CAMPAIGN SETTING - For D&D 3.5. Five years of work went into this, and it shows.

Well, it's not Homestuck related, and I've seen at least two other threads for figuring out homebrew stuff here in the games forum, so here's where it landed.

I'm seeing a potential problem here.

Other than that, which may or may not be a joke, this sounds like a good idea.
Also Crackfic would have all the best skills. Induce a love triangle involving a hobo, a queen, and some random guy's curtains? Make the primary antagonist fall in love with that fish you just caught? Sure, as long as you've got the mana for it.
...I could be completely wrong though.

No, no, summoning Cthulhu is for the endgame, silly.

Also, inspiration hit me. Traits and skills can be based on tropes. Everyone wins.

    Also, post 1000. Great Scott.

Also also, this is quite open to suggestions. 'Tis a groupish project, after all.

Oh, I read "homebrew" as "homestuck". My mistake. I like the concept though.

This sounds like a pretty cool project. Given that I enjoy playing tabletops (albeit on an irregular basis), I will most likely be helping out in some way or form. Possibly giving ideas. I definitely wont be writing mechanics and the such though, I'm rubbish at that.

Welcome the the not-really-a-team. Mechanics willcome later, and will probably be very, very freeform so we don't have to worry about that. Setting is important now.

On that note, which do you think is better: entire setting is within an inifite library, or the inifite library is the hub to other parts of the world?

    Definitely infinite library. Like Pagemaster!

This looks like it could be a really cool game.

Re: Librus - A Homebrew RPG Project

That's actually a REALLY cool idea. I would not mind at all helping out a little bit. =D

In response to the setting, I think that having the Library be a Hub might be better. Iunno why, might be that it reminds me of Chrono Trigger. =P

Re: Librus - A Homebrew RPG Project

Well, here's out first "offical" setting piece. Now go! Build! Expand! Extrapolate!

    --

The Library - Well, it goes on forever. I'm not kidding here: it really does. You have no idea how huge this place is. No idea. There may have once been something outside of it, but it was just built around all that stuff. That said, it's not just bookshelves: look hard enough you can find forests, lakes, swamps, even full mountain ranges and oceans in here, and some other interesting biomes as well (ever been in an purprose quagmire? You don't want to). Of course, these have all been turned into some sort of book-storage, from carved shelves on vertical cliff sides to rickety reading rooms on stilts above the waves. The library is dotted with villages, towns, even entire cities and whole civilizations within its infinite borders.

At the center of the Library is the Catalog, and the office of the Head Librarian. This massive structure serves as the hub for the groups of adventuring Readers, as well as the centralized location of all discovered books in the Library. there's still more to catalog.

The inhabitants of the Library are as follows:

Librarians: Near-godlike entities, who oversee the Library. they keep it safe, keep it organized, and generally keep the place running.

Assistants: The creatures that aid the Librarians. they come in many shapes and sizes, from house-sized spiders to dumpy humanoids and everything in between. They are generally quiet, and completely focused on their business.

Readers: You or I, the common folk, all set to go out and see what lies over in the next department or what tomes have been lost in those caves. They'll live anywhere, sometimes nowhere at all, if you're one of the tribes of nomads in the Stacks.

    --

A good resource for inspiration would be the manga BLAME!, though the Library is a far less scary place than the City. It still gives you a good idea of the size we are talking about here. Imagine the Valles Marinis, and every square inch of the walls is covered in bookshelves, all of which are completely full. That is the scale here. And that's only a very, very tiny part of the Library.

I like it. I'm guessing that this isn't going to be like Minecraft, in the sense of how the Biome's are generated? Like, you aren't going to have a Swamp with a Desert right next to it. I would think that such a world would be pretty damn organized if it's run by Librarians. =P

Right. The geographical features run similar to how they are in real life, except when you get into those bits where everything's modular: just plop a megastructure wall down there and go to town. Of course, you can have normal landfroms, or you could have a Desert of First Drafts and the 34 Caves.

Unfortunately, the death of the previous Head Librarian, the Great Dewey, messed up pretty much everything. That, and it doesn't help that the Librarians tend to act more like used-book store owners. And, there's the whole: finite librarians, infinite Library to factor in. There are some very well organized parts, and some parts that no one's been in for millenia, and lots that has never been explored at all by the Main Desk.

Whatever you want: regions of the Library, famous Librarians, different models of Assistants, filling out the genres with details, making new genres, groups of interest, whatever your heart desires.

Depends on where you are. Most are normal, but there can be exotic ones like leatherbound, stone bound, human-skin bound, written on leaves in bat droppings, anything. Maybe electronic formats in some places.

I agree with Librarians being omnipresent entities that oversee all the readers. All of them.

Anyhow, as for enemies, I suppose they could be motivated to destroy the books for a reason that I have no clue about right now.

    As for enemy classifications:
    * Pagebenders
    * Bindbreakers
    * Bookburners

    That's some suggestions for now.

Added, and OP has been updated.

I also added the Censorium, thesauri rex, and ink imps.

    Some suggestions:

    Region:
    Storage, Book Return

    Fantasy Classes:
    High, Low, Modern

    Non-Fiction Classes:
    Self-help, Academic

Although I'm willing to suggest that Romance could be a Major Genre primarily in addition to a class.

    A childcare subclass.

Oh yeah, the three enemy classifications I suggested were more of classifications for enemies, rather than actual enemies, e.g. Ink Imps could go under Pagebenders.
