I'm pretty convinced the Romcom is a way of showing just how deep the brainwashing is: Jane didn't chicken out, the Condesce has messed with her mind so much that she cannot admit her attraction.
^That makes so much sense it's scary.^
Maybe it's one of UU's Romantic Fan-fictions and it never happened.
That I would like to see.
*Horror* JANEY, GET THOSE DEVIL THINGS OFF YOUR HEAD!
Oh lord, that's terrible. If she was forced to sabotage any of her relationships that could blossom into more than friendship.
Mother-PEEPers.
Okay, this is an old post, but I couldn't resist linking to this page.
I'm talking about Jadesprite here.
Jadesprite gets a pass for 13+ years of trauma plus constant suffering via green sun in the eyes.
Or something whatever the fuck was her deal.
Yeah you can't really fault her for being so upset. Humans weren't meant to be first guardians and being brought back to a depressing reality from an afterlife paradise with all of your friends where you're second banana isn't something a normal person would just shrug about and get over it.
Well, because that would be a pretty selfish thing to do! They are destined to be heroes and to create a new universe, and they know it. Letting a whole universe die just because you would be happier dead isn't really an admirable thing to do, and is mostly a thought that probably wouldn't occur to the heroes.
But the universe is already dead. This is more like, potential universe killing.
Which for some reason makes me want to compare it to an abortion.
And also makes me think of how "selfish" being gay is in this situation. Then again, ectobiological shenanigans prevent the reproduction limitations from being a real issue, so it's not a big deal.
But yeah that universe doesn't exist yet. There's no burden to force them to make it. Everything else in their own universe is dead and gone by now.
And besides, Dave and Rose already made the choice to die and be happy (with the other) instead of selflessly try to survive. They just survived anyways.
Lol
What
That seems like an adequate comparison.
What I meant by that was that I think that just letting their universe die, without producing an offspring universe would be selfish. Sorry if that wasn't clear. But yeah, I feel like their whole role in the story is to continue the universe cycle through the process of Sburb, and it would seem pretty lame to me if they all of a sudden decided to give up. It would pretty much make the whole story feel irrelevant.
Certainly, Jadesprite had it far worse than Jade herself, but as it stands, she's still basically fucking Jade.
While "loss" is a theme shared by all characters, it's especially pronounced for Jade, who shows herself to be the least capable of dealing with it.
It's first shown with her Grandpa, who she knows is dead but she still acts as if he's around and lecturing her.
Judging by these two conversations, she acts as if he's still alive to her friends as well, showing us that she hasn't quite dealt with his death yet.
Next time we get to see how she deals with loss is when she has a hysterical episode over Felt Dave's death, which is the direct cause of her sacrificing Becquerel in an attempt to stop Jack from killing any more of her friends.
That didn't work out well.
Jadesprite has at this point lost practically everything she holds dear twice over, first when she died and then again when she was brought back to life, losing everything she held dear in the afterlife.
She proves completely inconsolable, seeking death as a return to what she had. Meanwhile, normal Jade gets fed up with herself, complains that Jadesprite supposedly had it easy and yells at herself to man up and go fight Jack, an action presumably compounded by the fact that she just basically lost Bec due to her own fault.
Afterwards Jadesprite leaves and Jade denies Jadesprite as being her, but she's forcing herself to be strong despite all that happened, however the only thing Jade lost "for real" was Becquerel, which she later admits was basically her own fault.
Next time she has to deal with loss herself again, it's when Jack makes her shoot Dave dead, an event which lead to another hysterical episode, here she also starts treating Jack like a sort of replacement Bec, believing that getting Dave killed was just his way of saying "hi".
Meanwhile Jadesprite is still crying on the Battlefield, being more or less useless until she's reminded of the fact that she still has people she cares for, which leads to her finally accomplishing something.
Tying into the Old Yeller elements in her entry, she'll still has to learn how to deal with loss, knowing that Davesprite'll die at some point (because that's all Dave ever does, dying) and she's currently the most suited for stopping Jack, who's basically all that remains of Becquerel at this point (Barring PM, which she doesn't know about), she'll have to overcome this and stop Jack from killing anyone else.
e: Okay, that went on way longer than I expected

Conspicuous you are everything colwag isn't
reasonable, willing to find and use evidence, and generally very neutral and non-inflammatory about your points by avoiding bizarre tangents about gays being selfish and abortion
So basically A+ I loved your analysis
Plus it made me think about Jade in a way I hadn't before. That rules. You rule.
I am usually too busy to find sources. And too lazy. And I come on here to rant more then develop half the time.
And FEELINGS are usually based around very stupid bullshit.
That's an interesting interpretation of her character! I mean I never took her playing around her Grandfather as anything more than playing. Something about the idea of Jade being that far off the rocker...uh. Concerns me. Like. Makes her less liable because she's not as cute and innocent as I thought she was. It...bothers me in odd ways.
I might need to go think about this a lot more.
Yeah, it always sort of freaked me out how the girl was basically so lonely she acted as if he was still around while at the same time she's perfectly aware of how he's dead.
It's quite disturbing and more than a little sad.
I think that feeling hits a little harder too because of the way you read it the first time. You're given every reason to assume he's alive too![]()
Iduno, I mean.
I always sorta assumed she Dealt With It a long time ago, but she was just playing around as if he was still alive for her own entertainment because fuck that's a boring island.
I do not like this realization. I do not like it at all.
