I think the more interesting thing will be when Rose and Roxy meet. The passive agressive combat between the two will be legendary.


But otherwise, when Dave and Dirk meet up, they will probably get along well enough. I mean despite the fact that they have an intensive rivalry in both timelines, its pretty much established the two cared for eachother under their irony facade.

I'm saying that if the two characters meet as teenagers without the age disparity, their feelings might change.

It'd be, like, character development and stuff.

It seems like one of the things that the guardian swap will make possible is a re-evaluation of each kid's relationship with their guardian. It would be odd, not to mention disappointing, if they just reflexively adopted the same attitudes towards their teen!parents that they had toward their guardians.

Roxy is a good example of this. One of the primary reasons Rose distanced herself from her mother was because she believed her mom was being a passive aggressive ass hole in all the nice things her mom did for her. Well as it turns out Mom really was just trying to be a good mother. That should throw ol' Rose for a loop.

Roxy just goes way overboard when she's trying to show affection.

Maybe she was too drunk to realize how sarcastic they were? (when she was older anyway, the jaspers note seemed honest expression of emotion) Or she was happy that her grumpy daughter was still even bothering to talk to her. She surely couldn'y have missed the shrevv note. >>

I find it interesting that most of their interactions were indirect. I wonder if this Roxy was raised by a distant Rose (or similar parental figure) as well?

Did they have to raise the kids this way to preserve the alpha timeline?

Depending on when Rose died Roxy may have not really been raised by Rose at all.

I seem to remember Roxy making a comment about how her mom restocked the liquor cabinet when she ran out, and about how it was her passive agressive parenting or something. So her mom was obviously alive long enough for Roxy to start drinking. Unless Roxy was lying or under some sort of self-induced delusion like Dirk and Lil'Cal.

I seem to remember Roxy making a comment about how her mom restocked the liquor cabinet when she ran out, and about how it was her passive agressive parenting or something. So her mom was obviously alive long enough for Roxy to start drinking. Unless Roxy was lying or under some sort of self-induced delusion like Dirk and Lil'Cal.

One possibility is that she's agreed to act as though her mother is still alive in conversations with Jane (and IIRC that liquor cabinet comment was something she said to Jane), since Jane refuses to believe that Roxy's mother is dead. (That is, Roxy might have eventually just decided to stop pushing the issue in the interest of avoiding conflict and preserving her friendship with Jane.)

TT: That they are not presently alive nor ever played that role for us as she understands it is just an extension of a much more elaborate and far reaching explanation, which is much harder for anyone to digest in its entirety.

So I don't think it was r-Rose, unless Roxy is in the future, r-Rose left her that liquor and Roxy was raised by robots or something. I don't know.

Maybe they just meant weak in terms of power level compared to the other kids? But then it's more of a statement of fact than an opinion. This person doesn't sound very coherent to me.

Probably the same way people think she's somehow less "mature" than the other kids.
It's because they place their own views upon the character based around how they feel she acts.

Which is rather silly, considering how she's highly self-reliant due to practically raising herself for most of her childhood.
She's also highly active in achieving her goals and could by no means be considered passive even before her entry into the game.
While she may be too nice for her own good, she is more than capable of standing up for herself and she refuses to put up with the shit of others.
While she may be prone to freakouts, she manages to keep her head up despite all the shit the game throws at everybody, staying positive despite the hopeless situation. She also takes her assigned game-task very seriously, performing the frog breeding even when she knows she doesn't have enough time to complete it, and wisely cooperates with others in this.

I really don't know why anyone could think of her as weak and pathetic.

I think Roxy was just mature and grown-up enough to understand that Rose was simply a thirteen year old girl who was acting out, and that being mean-spirited to your mom is simply part of that package.
But at the same time, eccentric and immature enough not to deal with it in the same way you'd expect a regular adult to do so.

Well, we never saw her actually fight an imp on her own. Had to rely on Becsprite, then Dave to SAVE THE DAY *grumble*.

And like Sollux, she does a lot of her important junk off screen, like planning the Green Sun meetup.

But really fuck that opinion Jade is the best kid.Active and upbeat, without letting that cloud her judgement. She is the anti-Dave.

Well, we never saw her actually fight an imp on her own. Had to rely on Becsprite, then Dave to SAVE THE DAY *grumble*.

All he really did though was set up as her server player and set her up with a metric fuckton of grist and some codes for her alchemy session. Which was kind of a necessity given how the imps were now Becquerel powered.
He only seems to have left to set up timeloops after she lighted the forge and could get the frog hunting underway.
Most of her combat would've happened offscreen there.

We never got to see Jade fight an imp directly, though. And considering that she only won the fight we DID see because of Becsprite, Jade without Becsprite....fights imps how? How can bullets of any kind fight teleports, that was pretty well established as freaking useless and all.

The only way it seems to work is if she didn't fight imps at all until Dave got there.

Well, she did have a weapon that may or may not help against Green Sun powered foes.
And not all the underlings would've gotten Bec's powers, anyhow.

I think all the small imps we saw since then had First Guardian electricity on them.

Then again, in Cascade the ones John fought didn't.

But really I just wanted to see her do it directly not in the realm of offscreenness. And see her get legit EXP and not just frog quest EXP.

EDIT: I think the reason Jade is seen as weak is that we haven't seen her kick any ass onscreen.

No beating up Clubs Deuce doesn't count. That's like beating up a Scalemate. Or a teddy bear. That's just a jerk move.

Yeah, we saw John, Dave and Rose kick ass, while Jade's only recorded casualty was Dave.

EDIT: Although honestly I was a LITTLE miffed that she was able to get atop her echeladder with such little on screen asskicking. I know I know frog quests gave her infinite exp but that's not as satisfying as watching things explode.

I also wish we got more action flashes. Dave: Accelerate and Descend are still two of my favorite flashes.

edit: Doesn't even have to be flashes.... Just hero-mode action stills would also be nice.

We still don't know what the hell she had to do to light the forge. Maybe we'll get a flashback at some point.
