League of Legends: I Play Thread 2 as a Jungler

This is THREAD TWO for our League of Discussion!



So, those of you that are new to LoL may be asking "But PumpkinAppearifier, Just what IS League of Legends!?" (Click the spoiler to find out!)

Ill tell you! League of Legends (Which will from now on be referred to as LoL), is a Massive Online Battle Arena Game where you are put in control of one in almost Ninety Champions. In the game, you are teamed up with up to four other "Summoners", and put against another full team of the same number (Currently there are 3 maps, One for a 3v3 scenario, and two for 5v5 [although these 5v5's are very different in how they are played]).

The champion that you are in control of has four spells Unique to them: 3 regular skills that you can use from the start, and one "Ultimate" which Often Defines the champion. These Ultimates can range from Global heals/Damage, to Kicking an enemy through their own team, to spitting globs of acid, to many other crazy things!!



The Goal of the most Commonly played map, "Summoners Rift" is to take down the enemy Nexus (The nexus is the Purple at the top right and the blue at the bottom left), which spawns Minions (the green/red dots on the map above) every 30 seconds. However, to get there, you need to take down At least one "lane" of turrets, the Inhibitor (which allows you to spawn stronger minions), and the two Towers guarding the Nexus itself. Games can go on for quite a while.

Here are a few tips, shamelessly copy/pasted from the First LoL thread:

- Before you jump into a game, check out the available champions in your summoner profile. You can check their moves, look at a few tips on how to play as them, and see an overview of their stats, including how hard they are to play.

- Try as many champions as you can, both to find ones you like and to learn what to expect from enemies playing as them. There's ten new free-to-play champions each week, and sixty in total, so your opponents will often vary.

- Don't buy runes until you're level 20, when the top-tier stuff unlocks. That way you can save up IP for champions and, say, top-tier runes. Shit's expensive.

- Survival is more important than killing. If you can't tell, that's really fairly important. The longer the game runs, the longer you're out of the game when you die. That's time spent not defending, not killing enemies, not getting money, and not getting experience. That is not a good thing. If you and another champion are fairly evenly matched, and are each low on health, retreat. If you are facing two champions at about your level, or one champion two or more levels higher than you, retreat. Don't chase a wounded enemy too far, or that last one becomes increasingly likely.

- That said, if you have an opportunity to kill an enemy, do it. The same thing applies to them that applies to you: When they're dead, they can't do shit, making it easier for you to win. If you have a significant health advantage, attack. If they are trying to Recall, attack. If you are facing two champions and cannot escape, try to kill one of them before you go down.

- Stick together. If you are alone in a lane early on, you will be utterly crushed by any incoming champion that isn't. A team of three and a team of two will probably get farther than two twos and a one, and then the latter will have to retreat and regroup to push back the invasion anyway. XP-wise, it's a good idea to hang with a farmer if you're not one.

- Generally, champions usually don't stick around if you have a swarm of minions and they don't. Kill off the minions if you don't think you can handle the champ.

- Keep enemies off your turrets! If there are champions attacking your turrets, kill off the minions and the turret will make quick work of the champs that haven't fled.

- You only get gold from kills if you were the last person to hit the enemy. Try to time your hits so you take out that last sliver of health. This is early on, mind you, before you're able to destroy a minion in a couple of hits.

- Don't leave games. Not only are you locked out of playing other games, but you lose IP and are branded a Leaver if you don't join. Not to mention you eliminate any chance of a miraculous comeback.

- While Solo matchmaking is decent, Arranged matchmaking... isn't. You will end up fighting Level Ridiculous summoners with high-tier characters, top-tier runes, and an actual thought-out battle plan. I do not suggest it unless you have enough players for a full game, i.e. 6 or 10.

- Take this advice with a grain of salt. It was made by a guy (me) who didn't understand the game properly, and doesn't account for the existence of Dominion or actually being good at the game. It helps, but if you actually are trying to get sound, informed advice, there are better sources elsewhere on the 'net.

Passive I: Dressed by Success: Kanaya gains one stack per minion kill and six stacks per enemy champion kill (max 25 stacks). For each stack Kanaya gains 0.75 armor and magic resist. Kanaya loses one stack every two seconds while not in combat, and all stacks on death.
Passive II (not shown on ability bar): Kanaya's abilities use Energy. Kanaya has 200 Energy and regains Energy at a rate of 6...8 points per second.
Q: Chainsaw: Kanaya swings her chainsaw in an arc in front of her, dealing damage to all enemies in its radius and lowering their armor briefly. Costs 40 Energy.
W: Cultivate: Passive: Kanaya gains movement and attack speed while in brush. Active: The brush responds to Kanaya's caring touch, causing nearby enemy champions in that brush to be slowed briefly. Costs 60 Energy.
E: Radiate: Passive: Kanaya glows in the dark, granting her greater range of vision into the Fog of War. Active: Kanaya pulses brightly, revealing stealthed enemy units nearby. Costs 120 Energy.
R: Rainbow Drinker: Kanaya summons the powers of a rainbow drinker, granting her movespeed, attack damage, and life steal, as well as quadrupling her Energy regeneration rate.

I'm considering getting Swain, Talon, Maokai or Renekton, I refunded Swain, his GLORIOUS SOVIET RUSSIA skin, and Renekton a while ago but I sort of miss them now, bluh. Help me decide who to get first.

Get Maokai. That's who I'm nabbing if I dont like Fizz.

Maokai IS really rare, but apparently he's an awesome jungler. He's pretty good in a lane too.

The few times I've seen him he's done an excellent job with lane harassment but he doesn't seem to be an effective tank.

Going off of lolstatistics.com and their past few days of data, Maokai is one of the least popular champions, but has a Win/Lose ratio hovering around 1.10. So you don't see him often, but he tends to win more than he loses.

This one time I won a game where Maokai went mid and AP carried.

He had the Charred skin.


The problem is, he went afk/disconnected in the middle of mid lane while we were facing off with the other team there.
...EVENTUALLY they managed to kill him. It took forever due to how tanky he was.

Later that match I encountered gigantic lag bursts after we took Baron, (Maokai was back btw) and I basically wasted the entire duration of the Baron buff because of it.

But then I got the red buff and showed the Sion who was backdooring our turret the true power of 8% true damage.


This match was quite long, and that was one of the TWO times he died in that match. I kinda felt proud.

Maokai is amzing in the early game, but I think people dislike playing him because even when fed he falls off late game. He's got crazy nuts lane presence, though. His jungle ganks are insane, but from what I've heard he has an inflexible jungle path.

As for recommendations: talon's probably the most powerful, but I definitely have the most fun with swain and maokai.

Anyway, just as a general thing, who does everybody here main? Like the characters you're best with?

AD Ranged Carry: Caitlyn. I play Graves, but not as often.
AP Carry: Annie, as well as occasionally Lux. I can't play Vlad anymore since he just feels... Weak.
Tank: Singed. My one and only tank. I might pick up Leona when I grab the IP for her, but I need a tank Runepage first.
AD Melee Carry: None. Can't play any of them without dying a ton. It's terrible.
AD Off tank: Irelia and Shyvana are fantastic. I play Irelia when a little more serious and Shyvana when being Trollzy. Because leaping at people and typing "RAWR, IM A DRAGONNNNN" Is very very fun.
Hybrid: Kennen. Yep, I hybrid Kennen. sounds silly, but it works for some strange reason.
Support": None. Can't find one I like. Just not my thing I guess.

Ad Melee Carry: Depends who's free that week :O Although I mainly pick them up for 3's as it is. I can MK, Talon, Haven't panthed in a while, but he rapes in dominion.
Ad Off Tank: J4. Commando J4. I'M HELPING.
Hybrid: Jax ;o. Kat if she's free.Used to hybrid kayle... before the CHANGE.
Support: Karma most recently, although I haven't karma'd in a while. Although sometimes I juju (jungle nunu).

AD Ranged : Ashe.
AP Carry : Lux. I used to be real big on Annie but when I hit level 15 and beyond it suddenly became very hard to get good games with her.
Tank: Singed. Used to lane with Amumu, but everyone expects jungle Amumu at this level and I haven't tested that out yet.
AD Melee : None
AD Off Tank : Jungle Warwick, the only jungler I can actually play.
Hybrid : None.
Support : Janna. Used to Sona, but I have pretty much every support champ except Karma. I love playing support.
Assassin : LeBlanc.

Support: ...Never once tried supporting in a normal game.

WHATUP THREAD. My tastes in champions are changing gradually, but at the moment my current faves/mains are

AD Carry: Tristana (Dat attack speed)
AP Carry: Morgana (oops banned nevermind)
Tank: Taric (closest thing to a true tank I'm good with)
Bruiser/tanky DPS: Olaf, Gangplank if he isn't banned (Don't see a difference between melee carry and tanky dps honestly)
Off Tank: BLITZCRANK, THE GREAT STEAM GOLEM (BEEP BOOP I AM A ROBOT)
Hybrid: Yorick (I've been ass lately with him though. I can solo a top lane in theory, but i's been pretty bad matchups the last couple of times)
Support: Taric again (get that philosopher's and never pop your W- teammate is unkillable)
