I'm not entirely sure there's people still playing The Ship, since it's pretty old by now.
I haven't checked though, so for all I know there's still a vibrant but small community clinging on.

Try the Homestuck Character Creator! Easily make your trollsona, non-canon story character, or just some weird dude or dudette!

The new Humble Bundle V is out, with Amnesia: the Dark Descent, LIMBO, Psychonauts and Superbrothers. Also Bastion if you pay more than the average.
Seems like a good bundle. Wonder if they will add any extras to it.
I'm going to put in a request for a steam-redeemable key too, and I guess I can offer Tf2 hats, or Humble Indie Bundle 4 or something.
Got it.
Holy crap, this new bundle is FANTASTIC. EVERYONE SHOULD GET IT.
Too bad I already own everything except Superbrothers, but I'll still put some money down just for the soundtracks.
I just paid for the soundtracks, and for s:s&s ep, really (still, bargain price). I already own my legit copies of Bastion and Psychonauts, and someone would have to pay me prodigious sums of money before I would ever touch the other two (but as long as Steam doesn’t get a better way to put games you don’t want out of sight, into the “zzzzzzz ahhhhhh never play ever” category they go).
definitely panic if there’s caviar
The Humble Bundle V is here!
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Psychonauts
Limbo
Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP
Beat the average game: Bastion
That's like the best bundle they ever made.
Holy shit Psychonauts in an indie bundle!
That makes me too happy.
I already own Psychonauts twice.
But I bought the bundle anyway because I've been looking for a cheap way to get Bastion.

Psychonauts is amazing, I think bastion is too but I can´t play because craptops (Though I already had that, so I did´t pay for it) Limbo is a pretty fun way to spend your time in a train, I'm thinking about streaming/lping amnesia because I'm a scary wuss and that's funny, and IDK about the last one.
Now I can officialize my vidya hipster cred by playing both Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts.
If anyone has an extra bastion key (I got the rest of the bundle)
I would totes appreciate it if you gave/sold it to me
(for tf2 items or some shit)
I have a spare bastion key. You get free of charge because i dont care.
Psychonauts.
People always say how good this game is HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS GOOD.
Bastion is pretty fun. Especially with the machete. there's something about throwing machetes that is too much fun.
Posted this in the Indie Games thread because I didn't realise that there was already a thread specifically for the bundle.
I'm actually kind of surprised that the average donation is so low. I paid the default $25 (and set it to go 100% to developers), then I saw that the average amount Linux users paid is only half that: $12.23. And Windows users on average paid even less at only $7.26. (And Mac users also averaged in the single digits, but slightly better than Windows users at $9.47). Really? $7.26 for 5 games? That's less than $1.50 per game!
It's also pretty funny how the amount the average person paid for the bundle is inversely related to the amount paid (or not paid) for their operating system. Though it makes sense when you think about it. A significant portion of the Linux community would rather support independent developers than corporations. Actually, that's probably true for most people, but I imaging a larger percentage of Linux users are more passionate about it than Windows users. Probably. And Mac users are probably paying more since there's barely any games for Macs. (Technically, there's PROBABLY less games for Linux, but Linux has WINE which lets you play a good portion of Windows games, and Macs have a pretty terrible version of WINE that works for barely anything, so really Macs have the least amount of games)

Sucks for Linux users, but what do they honestly expect? Not even on a "nobody but programmers use Linux" level. How about on a "my OS is free and open source, why doesn't anything work on it??" level.
I think I may actually have ten bucks before the bundle expires, and I will no longer be in debt. So I aim to pick this up and irresponsibly pile more games on top of my backlog.
Blatant lies.
This was true in 1970 (well, that was UNIX, not Linux). It stopped being true more than 10 years ago. In fact, in 1998 (7 years after Linux was officially released), Microsoft attempted to sabotage the Open Source movement, with Linux as it's primary target. Needless to say, they spectacularly failed, but the point is that Linux is not some obscure operating system that programmers use to hack things by manually typing in 1s and 0s. This was never true: most Linux distributions are much more user friendly than Windows is. Just because there exists versions of Linux that are specifically meant for programmers and are not user friendly does not mean ALL distributions of Linux are meant for Programmers. Even Microsoft and Apple acknowledge it as a legitimate competitor. The underdog, sure, but it is a legitimate and complete operating system.
And, technically, everybody uses Linux. Your router likely runs Linux. Most servers you connect to run Linux. The military uses Linux. In some countries, Linux personal computers are more popular than Windows ones.
You should read the Wikipedia article on Linux some time. It's actually pretty accurate and informative.
That's exactly why everything should work. If you can compile it on a Mac, there's a very high probability that compiling it on Linux will be trivial (they are both UNIX based and both follow the POSIX standard. Every major operating system except Windows does. It's not like you have to go out and spend $500 on Linux so you can test it. You can download it in 20 minutes, install it in under 15, and test your program for a few hours.
Also, even if your argument was valid (it is not- it is a non sequitur. It's not free because it's bad. It's free because it's a community effort. In the field of Computer Science, the saying "you get what you pay for" is almost never true), it still wouldn't matter. The bundle requires all games to be multi-platform. If your game does not run on every platform properly, regardless of the reason, real or perceived, it does not belong in the bundle. Simple as that.
And before you say "Linux isn't meant for gaming", it is actually is more optimised for gaming than Windows is, and likely always will be. It's a shame there are very few games that take advantage of this, but most developers would rather develop for one single platform instead of trying to make it work on everything (though, honestly, it's not actually as hard as it sounds. There's some really high quality multiplatform graphics and physics engines out there- Havok for example), and more people use Windows than Linux on their personal computers, so they make their game only run on Windows.

Wow, even I don't type that much to complain.
And I'm known for complaining.
I don't think any operating system was brought up with gaming in mind.
fuck it i'm saying it
Well gamers definitely shouldn't use it

Well, except for game console operating systems
I still have no idea what operating system the XBox uses. It doesn't seem to have a scheduler since you can't do more than 1 thing at once, so it's obviously not Windows, but I can't see it being UNIX either considering how much Microsoft loathes open source. Maybe it's a really simplified version of the Windows NT kernel? Or maybe the Windows kernel before you could have multiples processes (DOS)? Then again, it''s not multiproccess, but it obviously supports multiple threads because... graphics. Seems kind of arbitrary actually. *shrug* Whatever.
Wait, this thread is about indie games, not peculiar operating systems!
I finished my playthrough of Limbo. It was pretty cool, but it kind of spontaneously changed its genre in the middle and I didn't like it as much. I mean, yeah, it was a puzzle game throughout, but the first part was this creepy platformer with a giant spider stalking you for most of it. Then it kind of turned into Lemmings for a few minutes with the... brain worm... thing... and then it changed to a significantly less creepy eternal engine thing, and at the end just turned into a timing game with antigravity. I enjoyed the first part of the game much more, but all in all, it was a good game, though extremely short. Also, did the main character remind anyone of Tom Sidell's "self-portrait"? Everyone is speculating about what the game means, but I'm just going to pretend it's all an adventure in Zimmingham.
Looking forward to playing through Amnesia tomorrow. It looks pretty sweet.
