Ooh, I remember those books! I should reread them, I loved them as a kid :>

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

Oh man, I just remembered some of the WORST characters I ever imagined.

I never RPed these guys, and quite frankly I am glad I did not.

One of them was basically Darth Vader with detachable limbs who could climb on light sabers that he levitated with the force and swung around him to become a one-man fighting army. Only he wasn't in a Darth Vader uniform, it was just a black Stormtrooper outfit. Because I had a storm trooper action figure and played with it all the time.

And there was this Abra/Jigglypuff combo who basically had all these amazing psychic powers *yes, both of them* and holy lasers they could shoot out of their hands and feet and tails and ears all at the same time. God it was the WORST.

And then there's the two Mary-sues who actually managed to make it in as characters I played. The 11-foot tall man who had an iron fist that could control all metal, a car that could shoot giant lasers and travel to anyplace in space and time, who had unlimited resources thanks to an infinite empire of money-making industries that endlessly fueled his expenditures, who lived longer than he could count, who had more professions than his wallet could physically fit, and who could resist any damage by any metallic weapon or technological attack. MAN that dude is overpowered. But almost nothing compared to his travelling companion, who is a disembodied cloak that can summon anything through the void within himself and split himself into infinite versions of himself, while having enough magic power to summon anything and a dark side that threatens the very fabric of reality.

So yeah, I had some pretty horrible characters at one point that were basically just as powerful as I could possibly make them be.

speaking of weird Alien-Sue Races: i once made an alien species that was some kind of cross between Vorlons and Jedis, and they looked alot like Dino-Raptors. It was in some kind of Starwars AU, taking place back before the Old Republic was even around, they had a government simular to that in Babylon 5. These creatures where the first force users, and later spred it to the other races in the universe.... And this was before Medichlorians was known about (Like in 96-98ish). It was inspired by how the Vorlons created telepaths in other races so they could get control over them.

so, it didn't phase me one bit when Ep1 came up with Medichlorians, i was all "What's the big deal?" until i started to get older and see all the craziness. I was the Sally, it was me. XD

Some loser with mama issues from some Harry Potter ripoff novel I started to write in grade school.
I kind of want to start writing that story again just so I can kill her off... time and time again. >:P

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

I think my first Marry Sue was Hashima (though I could be wrong since I've had so many of them over the years). She was this magical quest girl I used when my friends and I role played through email in junior high. She was tall with elf ears and vibrant purple hair. Her big thing was that she turned into a dragon occasionally. She fought hand to hand or RIPPED PEOPLE INTO LITTLE PIECES by turning into a GIANT PURPLE DRAGON. She had an amazing boyfriend Hiroku who was afraid of feathers and had to be saved all the time by his fantastic girlfriend. I think this was around the time I started watching anime (inuyasha mostly), so I made every one of my characters have Asian sounding names.

I only ever had one Mary Sue.
    She was...me.
    Literally. Me.
With magical powers to bring dead characters in the fandom I was writing back to life.
...Needless to say I wasn't the cleverest of twelve-year-olds when I wrote said story.

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

The mary sue version of me is the protagonist of most of my day dreams, and has been for as long as I can remember.

He is like me but badass and ruthlessly genre savvy. He can play guitar and goes on romantic strolls with wonderful pale skinned ladies.

Also he smashes evil's face in wherever it shows up and does so with such audacity and style that criminals are too embarassed to return to a life of crime after fighting him.

His band is world famous and his films have viewers.

Also he is hugged everyday and high-fives people in the street.

Fortunately I have never written any of his adventures down before, they would be dull as heck to read.

I question why you needed to specify "pale-skinned"?

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

I recall one of my first attempts at racebuilding resulted in... well, basically they were griffin-people. Bipedal, larger than humans, stronger than humans, longer-lived than humans, smarter than humans, matriarchal (because I was on a Straw Feminism kick at the time, god forgive me), and they could ~FLY~ and had claws.

And had basically some kind of weird free love structure? They didn't really have long-term serious relationships as a thing, which was a fact that I had not thought about at all.

Actually now that I think of it I had some weird social ideas for an eleven-twelve-year-old. I just had no idea how to work them into a believable, reasonable fictional society.

    Ugh, I failed so hard.

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

I... really never made any unintentional Mary-Sues. God-level characters, yes, but no Mary-Sues. They were sooo much more powerful than anyone around them, and effortlessly beat the crud out of 'normals', just to show how powerful the character is. Then get the crud beat out of themselves by someone else. It is kinda my cliche - to show how much more powerful the main and secondary cast are from normal humans, but not having one character be 1000 times more powerful than any of the others. I guess it is my way of lazily getting out of showing the gradual increase of a character's powers from human to superhuman, or something.

However, there is one character that fits the bill of Mary-sue/gary-stue. He is a super-powerful dimension/time-traveler, that inserts himself into the dimensions of various tv-shows/comics/manga to mess with the plot.

    Oh my gosh. Mary Sues.
Let me tell you about my Mary Sue.
It was a Death Note "character". She lived in the Wammy House with L, of course. And of course, they liked each other and then they got separated and met again.
And then L visits her after dying.
Okay, you can stop laughing now. C:

I don't think I've ever had a directly Mary-sue character. But boy when I was younger I used to create characters with subtle Mary-sue qualities. I think i got wiser though as I got older and realized that being a Mary-sue was wrong.

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

My early stories lacked the depth necessary to even make a Mary-Sue, and once I found out what it was I was like "Shit, I'm not doing that."
Your chumhandle is typicallyUnusual, and you type like a normal human being, with no quirks of any kind because quirks are stupid and so are you.

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

There were probably several before I can remember - what with my poor remembering abilities - but the earliest I can remember was a PPG fan character - a vampire named Skippy Sunshy (sun shy, get it? ohgodhowdumb). Him hires Skippy from the underwold as a hit man to take out the girls, promising that he'll give Skippy the ability to survive daylight if he pulls it off. He nearly defeats the girls, but then when he explains why he's fighting them they just give him some sunscreen and he lets them go. The end.

Twas pretty lame, but later I used the character in a little comic I used to do, completely unrelated to PPG, and he got a little better in that context.

that doesn't sound very mary sue-ish...

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

I'm sorry, did I leave out the part where he beat all three girls by himself, easily, at the areas of their specialties (outsmarting blossom, outfighting buttercup, and hypnotizing the animals bubbles called to help her) while looking fabulous, and Him had to practically beg him to do it?

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

It didn't sound that bad other than Him begging, honestly. In fact, the whole concept (up until there) sounded just like something that would be in a PPG episode, which is why I didn't consider it sue-ish (until Him started begging.)

    Re: Your First Mary Sue

Pretty sure my first Mary Sue creation was an OC I made for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original) back when I watched it when I was a wee Rem ~ A snake-mutant female who for...some reason had hair...and was a ninja (naturally) and fought with Rapheal's weapons and was totally a thief and criminal but a good guy! but not -that- good- and also a badass - and sometimes a villain but! also fought against Shredder! and always always saved Rapheal when he would eventually get kidnapped or something and Rapheal totally had the hots for her but she could not love, she had to be a NINJA and NINJA are not allowed to love
    except when they totally kissed

this wasn't written because I was like, what, 8 or 9 or something? xD Internet wasn't invented yet. But I drew her aaaall the time and would imagine their stories as I drew them, so.
    I guess it counts.

rje: hahah.... I wasn't writting stories when i was 9 years old, but when i was around that age i had mentally turned Mona Lisa (the lizard that, if i remember right, was Ralph's GF) into a memic badass..... thinking she'd be doing all sorts of baddass stuff while she was gone. I even had her action figure! Do not know what happened to it, i am sad

    *googled the character*

O_O omg I completely forgot all about her
...looking back in my foggy imagination I now realize what I did
    I took -her-
and lady deathstrike, who I knew and liked for some reason (was she in the X-Men cartoon?)
    and a snake
and put them all together and called it an OC xDD
lmao omg I am so going to draw her and put her here so my ridiculously blatant theft can be seen by all. That is hilarious.
But I actually did that frequently too, best thing to make up your own adventures for the characters

When I was younger and really into the Warrior Cats series I made a fancharacter who was so painfully perfect. She was the best hunter, fighter, everything. And she became leader of the entire clan less than 2 months after finishing her apprenticeship. Needless to say, I don't like her so much anymore.
