Hey guys, I know this thread hasn't seen a whole lot of activity lately, but I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up - MrGuy's stepped down as the host for S!7, and I'm taking over for next month's battle. The reason I'm bothering to announce this pretty far in advance is because my battle's got a gimmick planned, and everyone on #grandbattle's been thinking it over for weeks now. I really like the thought everyone's been putting into their characters, and I've been having fun talking them over with everyone, but it's starting to get me worried that the people who aren't in regular contact with us and didn't find out in advance won't have enough time to think something up, so I'm just gonna make the announcement right now.

All seven rounds of S!7, or The Battle of the Century, will take place in the same setting, but each round will be a hundred years later. There won't be any MSPAFA round, there likely won't be any cameo round, and the actions of your characters and the world-building you do will largely affect the setting in the rounds to come.

If anyone wants to talk about characters, you can PM me or something, or just join #grandbattle on irc.esper.net. That would be more interesting. Do that instead.

Signups for THE $300,000 FIGHT-A-THON start on Friday, August 10th. This is the final battle of season intermission!

Since i know some people are trying to get a head start on profiles and stuff, here are some things I'd like to note regarding my criteria for admissions:

1) If you haven't been in a battle before, you are more-or-less guaranteed a spot. Unless your profile is so staggeringly bad that you clearly have no idea you're entered in a writing contest, I'm letting you in. That means, you do not have to go through hoops to prove your worth to me or whatever. I won't be accepting or reading writing samples, I don't want your biography to be a three thousand word long series of flashbacks or any such silliness. This should not be a source of stress for you! If you're interested in battles and haven't been in one before, this is your ticket. Write up a character, and you're in, easy as that.

2) If you're in other battles, you should be active in them. If you're going to be spending two weeks frantically hacking away at a stunningly perfect profile, and you're in three other battles that you haven't posted in in six months, that is not going to improve your chances of getting into 300KFAT. I'm interested in hosting a really good battle, not a really good first half of a first round.

3) Though fans of my writing will note my disgusting hypocrisy in saying this, I am not predisposed to accept composite characters (any character that is more than, say, two separate entities) or concept characters (anything that is either incapable of thinking or incapable of acting on its own). And though this isn't a "villain battle" or anything, I might show a bit of bias in favor of characters who might actually want to fight each other. Work on your fundamentals!

Beginnings:
