    Forgotten Age

"Behold the Scavenger Lands, a land of unchanging chaos and predictible strife. Here, distanced from the sway of the land of prosperity, man faces man, nations rise and crumble, and the little spirits of the world watch in hushed silence as the land around them persists in a holding pattern of turmoil, everything waiting for some sort of lasting stability."

"Here may be heard the clash of steel against steel."

"Here, gods scheme to win the hearts of men."

"Here, the only truely surprising thing is a brief moment of mundanity. Such as the one right now. Absolutely nothing of notice is occurring at this mom- IS THAT A TINY TORNADO OVER IN THAT FIELD? "

"Well, it seems to be dying down. Shall we investigate further? Of course we shall."

"Hm! It seems at the epicenter of the missing maelstorm is a frusterated young man. So, now that he's calmed down, who is THIS blustery fellow?"

Hey, thanks for all the interest, everyone!

Forgotten Age is a story my friend Demothesis and I have been planning for a little while now. He and I are both writing and he's drawing it. We hope you enjoy!

Certainly not! The McWindy family is an illustrious and established family of windsurfing product craftsmen back upon the Land of Prosperity, and most definitely are not given to temper tantrums like the one we just witnessed. Besides, it seems this young man is familiar with Steven McWindy, and it's most definitely not an amiable relationship.

"Sniff Bacon Jr."? That's an absolutely absurd name, and it seems like this young man won't stand for such- ah, oh dear. It seems, um, that perhaps that WAS the name he was born with. Apparently he had really, REALLY crazy parents, at least as crazy as farmers can get. To be honest, he's kinda worried they weren't quite right in the head. HOWEVER, as is customary for young Dragon Disciples, shortly after his apotheosis our young protagonist was expected, nay, required to take on a new, much more suitably pretentious moniker. And that name is...

"Tepet Jacquerel Zephyr, The Chill Northern Wind Which Blows Across the World, Chosen of the Dragon of Air." The titles are important to him, it seems, because they represent how far he's come. But for casual narration such as ours, it seems he doesn't mind being referred to as Zephyr. Now that proper introductions have been made, I'm sure Zephyr wouldn't mind us taking a little peek at his STAT SHEET...

...Hm. That's... perhaps a bit much for our purposes. Let's just... revise this a bit... to make it seem more manageable...

Much better. Now, as previously mentioned, you are Zephyr, and you've just calmed down after a bit of a breakdown. You are a young member of the illustrious order known as the Huntsmen, chosen to hunt down horrible demonic abominations which twist the minds, hearts, and bodies of men and plot to destroy all that your people, the Dragon Disciples, have worked to build.

As such, you have left your home and traveled out with a hunting party consisting of yourself and two others of your stature, an Astrologer as well as a number of mortal monks under your command. This was the sort of thing you dreamed of doing as a young child, and it's not living up to your expectations. No one seems actually intent on hunting down the very abomination you've been tasked with defeating, and it just grated on your nerves to the point where you needed to just EXPLODE!

And so you did. Somewhere where you wouldn't hurt anyone. In an enormous tornado which depeted most of your SPIRITUAL ENERGY.

You feel much more calm now, and you know for a fact the monster you've been chasing is hiding somewhere in or around this village. So now, what do you do?

Upon contact with demon, attempt and fail at witty one-liner.

You let your hands fall to a more comfortable position. All that scratching was starting to get a bit uncomfortable, anyway.

You'd love to find the demon, much less a stiff drink, but this excuse for a town is lucky to have a single horse, much less a proper bar. You wouldn't even BE here if it weren't for the fact that the ASTROLOGER you've brought with you foretold the Anathema you're hunting is going to be coming here soon.

What spider? You look around a bit, but you don't see anything even REMOTELY arachnid-like around you, much less one of the stardust-spinning nightmare moon spiders of peasent folklore.

Not that you buy into such stories, anyway. As one of those chosen by the Dragon Mela, it's above you to believe in such nonsense. Everyone knows demons exist, but 24-legged spiderlike entities living on Luna's surface that spin webs of gossamer and devour people's memories and thoughts? That's just crazy talk.

You're confident that there's absolutely nothing behind you whatsoever. Especially not some disgusting, terrifying web-spinning monstrosity which is only considered "natural" by virtue of the fact that they were in existance long before people were.

No, you have nothing to worry about. You're safe. Safe forever.

You go ahead and proceed to FLIP THE FUCK OUT again. That rustling noise suddenly seems like the most grating, irritating thing you've ever heard! Unfortunately it seems that your patience proves to be a detriment in this respect, as you've depleted your CRAP RESERVOIR to the point where you just can't seem to get angry about anything. You'll have to put up with a great deal of BULLSHIT before you can build up a frothy head of rage like the one you were previously enjoying.

That and the fact that your previous tantrum wasted almost all of your SPIRITUAL ENERGY make your outburst less like a proper acrobatic FLIP and more like the pitiful HOP of a young, morbidly obese spoiled child.

While you haven't really made a crop circle since you were a kid, the prospect of going into the field and finding out where that annoying sound is coming from certainly makes this tempting...

It's been a pretty quiet day, after all. The only wind that this whole town's seen came from you, so why anything would be rustling is beyond yo-

    Oh dragons.

Wait, so you worship dragons or something? Also: what are the legends about moon spiders?
