I kind of want to use them as letters, and make a postal system or something.
I kind of want to use them as letters, and make a postal system or something.
That means fireplaces would have a function.
'BURN AFTER READING'
Also mailboxes.
Multiplayer cities could have rulebooks that they could hand out.
I hope you will be able to copy books in future.
It would be ok if they were copies they said "Copied by X" or something.
And then you can be all
SHITCHEAH, I GOT AN ORIGINAL COPY!
This copy's illegal.
*toss*
See,
this is why I asked for writable books once the very idea of maps and books were propositioned.
They may seem dumb-as-shit right now, but they have a lot of versatility.
Also, totally chronicling things that happen. I will start up a town/castle with a graveyard and record hall and shit.
If I die, I sign my diary and archive it. After that, I dig/fill a new grave in the graveyard. Depending on how well/shit I do, I will evolve the town around that. It's going to be my LEGACY.
*excite*
And when I get bored, I'll save the map with all its records and graves and people can discover the history behind the map.

It also opens up a new road for map makers, like you said Khol. Also i just want to be able to properly keep records and shit.
Also, adventure maps.
Clickety clickety.
I didn't make one, but I've played plenty.
I am currently making one though.
Although it's more of a physical record.
A remnant of the past you can explore.
Explore the world as I did/my characters did.
Half the fun is linking written parts of the diary and maps to locations in the world.
I think the cutoff will be 5 deaths.
Then I'll clean up the world and let you guys have at it.

I just thought of something, no blueprints yet, but I thought of it.
Using the right spawn setup and redstone with piston blockers and pressure plates, you could make it so there are a finite number of spawns you get to complete an adventure map.
You fall in a tube, landing in a large pool of water to break the fall, with only one exit, with a pressure plate that causes the way into this pool to be blocked off. You do the map, die, and then fall into one above it, which has much the same thing, until you use up your lives and spawn in a room with no exit.
Or you could just make one room with a number of doors that seal after you use them
Wouldn't be nearly as cool, though.
The coolest bit would be if you managed to make each room almost indistinguishable from the last, so that some player who disregarded the "you only get X lives" would be very surprised by the sudden lack of door.
...I could be completely wrong though.
I currently play as an adventurer, with the zeppelin mod and my airship just flying round builing castles for villagers and shizz.
if books are storable in bookcases, that would make such an awesome captain's log
I like the fact that if you just wanted to write down a phone number on a piece of paper (if there was phones), you'd have to either:
A. Put up a sign somewhere were everyone could see it blatantly, or
B. Name, Sign and publish a book just containing the phone number.
So... we should have the ability to use a quill and scribble on paper. You could draw as well. But you can't put them into a book, it's only one page!
There's only one thing I want improved.
You should be able to edit books whenever you want, until you actually put them in a bookshelf, at which point they are permanent.
This makes so much more sense to me, and gives a very good use for bookshelves.
Bookshelves should function like chests, but with only one line of inventory space and only for books. And you can't store books in chests.
Maybe books on bookshelves in Strongholds could contain crafting recipes. Or stories. Or locations of treasures! Or a short list telling you what strings of words correspond to what enchantments in the Enchanting Table.
