Keep the burn on Walzi, a little extra attack for the burn damage might just be worth it depending on what exactly's going on...just, ya know move her back to the safety of the ball.
[Ambience Link]
==>
You distribute potions to Walzi, Hux, and Thoreau, (though you leave Walzi's scorch on for tactical reasons - she seems fiercer when burned) then ball everyone back up - including Hobbes - and give the place a few moments to fall down if it's gonna fall down before moving on. The rumbling's died quite a bit after the initial blast, so you're guessing it was a detonation (and a pretty well-controlled one at that) rather than a natural tremor. It sounded pretty close, though you can't say exactly how much so, but not far at all. Maybe just around the bend ahead, or a little past. Then again, these tunnels do have some echo to them, so it might be farther than you expect.
Either way, it doesn't look like the roof is about to come down on your head, so you proceed forward, carefully and with a ball at the ready in one hand and your pickaxe in the other.
==>
You're approached immediately after emerging from the tunnel by a guy who looks about as shaken as you feel, despite being positioned as if he's supposed to be standing guard.
Kid, what do you think you're doing? It's dangerous to be down here alone!

TEAM INFINITY GRUNT wants to battle!

He drops his entire team at once, setting a trio of Psychics against your group en-masse. You match him with Walzi and Hux, but decide to hold back Godel for now, knowing how she doesn't tend to stand up well against psychic attacks... or the fire that the sun-looking one will probably be able to throw as well.
Perhaps predictably, the Ralts and Woobat open the fray with psychic blasts, but not quickly enough to stop Hux from slamming face-first into the Solrock and dousing it completely. The floating rock is barely still mobile, but manages to keep in place long enough to kick up the predicted wall of fire, cutting you off from your Pokemon and preventing any form of retreat without leaving Hux and Walzi behind or waiting for them to douse it down. The flames don't seem to harm them much, but do prevent them from escaping; good thing too, as Walzi takes a heavy beating getting struck by both the psychics. Snarling, she charges in and latches onto the Ralts, nearly ripping a limb off in her fury. One down, at least.
HUXLEY used AQUA JET! It's Super Effective!
Enemy WOOBAT used CONFUSION!
Enemy RALTS used CONFUSION!
Enemy SOLROCK used FIRE SPIN! It's not very effective... HUXLEY was trapped in the vortex! It's not very effective... WALZEPHINA was trapped in the vortex!
WALZEPHINA used BITE! It's Super Effective! Enemy RALTS fainted! WALZEPHINA's hurt by its Burn!
Hux makes another sweep, dousing a large chunk of the fire and finishing off the intruding Solrock; the Grunt, perhaps wanting to avenge the attack, directs the Woobat to attack him instead of finishing Walzi off, a poor strategy that costs him when she lunges and latches on again. It doesn't go down, proving itself at least a little tougher than its companion, but it's certainly not in any good shape. Walzi herself isn't much better off, though. If you can't finish it off in a single more hit, you'll need to give her an emergency potion or risk her getting knocked out, and you're all out of stolen Revives.
HUXLEY used AQUA JET! It's Super Effective! Enemy SOLROCK fainted! HUXLEY grew to LEVEL 12!
Enemy WOOBAT used CONFUSION! HUXLEY became Confused!
WALZEPHINA used BITE! It's Super Effective!
HUXLEY's damaged by FIRE SPIN! WALZEPHINA's damaged by FIRE SPIN! WALZEPHINA's hurt by its Burn!
Dazed and dizzy, Huxley manages to launch himself sideways, but at least his trajectory is accurate. He flies across the chamber and smacks into the bat, knocking it into the left wall. The pair fall into a heap, but when you both call the injured creatures back you still have Walzi - badly beaten she may be - on the field while he's emptyhanded.
HUXLEY is Confused! HUXLEY used AQUA JET! Enemy WOOBAT fainted!

He tosses you a bag of something before you can attempt to coerce him into giving stuff up.
Better get out of here. Mel's in an explosive mood!
And before you can respond he takes his own advice, skittering around you and darting back down the path.
The bag has a few minor items. Two Super Potions, an Antidote, and a Revive. Better than nothing.
==>
Hey, you'll take it. You haven't gotten much use out of the ones you have, but you guess that'll change once you get out of here.
==>
You hear a distant echo of voices ahead, confirming your suspicions that whatever's going on down here - and this guy Mel you've been looking for, and probably Cole too - can't be much farther.

But to get to it you'll need to get around or through these two.
Stop right there, not one step more!

TEAM INFINITY HENCHES want to battle!

Given how battered Walzi is from the last fight, you send out three to meet their two, leaving Godel and Nietzsche to fight while you tend to her injuries. Niet pounces immediately, chomping down on the Ralts just in time to get a telekinetic punch to the face; the pair stagger away from one another, the wounds from the clash looking about equivalent but Niet appearing to have the worse end of things from the dazed expression on his face. Godel however endures a gore from the Nidoran before giving back double with a psionic burst of her own, sending it reeling. Unfortunately it's not quite out, but unlike the other pair you have a visible advantage here.
CALVIN used POTION! WALZEPHINA regained health!
NIETZSCHE used BITE! It's Super Effective!
Enemy RALTS used CONFUSION! NIETZSCHE became Confused!
Enemy NIDORAN? used POISON STING!
GODEL used CONFUSION! It's Super Effective! Enemy NIDORAN? became Confused!
WALZEPHINA's hurt by its Burn!
With Walzi healed up, you send her into the battle as well. No sense playing fair if you can get around it without much effort, right? Niet goes for another attack despite his dizziness, and while the Ralts is still up the sudden attack for the jugular catches it off-guard and prevents a counterattack. The Nidoran charges again, this time smashing its horn and jaws into Godel for a more effective blow, but her second pulse finishes it off. Walzi takes advantage of the open field to dive in and take a bite out of the Ralts as well, ending its foray into the battle.

You've seen the guy's lizard-thing with the loose pants before, but the cat-wolf-goat thing his partner sends out alongside it is unfamiliar to you. Unfortunately you can't remember at the moment how you beat it last time. You figure you might as well just stick with the trio you have, why not?
Niet begins by trying to set the cat-thing on fire. The damage is moderate, but nothing impressive. The other two get their chance to counter before you can hit first, though - the Scraggy delivers a powerful kick straight into Walzi's knees, nearly bringing her unconscious again, while the Absol strikes back at Niet with a slash from its horn. Walzi biting it back barely pierces its fur, unfortunately, and when Godel attempts to blast the other one... the psychic energy just kind of ripples around it then fades into nothing, accomplishing jack squat.
That ain't good. Guess Psychics can't just steamroll everything.
Enemy ABSOL's Attack Decreased! Enemy SCRAGGY's Attack Decreased!
Enemy ABSOL's exerting PRESSURE!
NIETZSCHE used EMBER!
Enemy ABSOL used SCRATCH!
Enemy SCRAGGY used LOW KICK! It's Super Effective!
GODEL used CONFUSION! It doesn't affect enemy SCRAGGY!
WALZEPHINA used BITE! It's not very effective.... WALZEPHINA's hurt by its Burn!
Walzi's in lousy shape so you call her back again, and send out Thoreau in her place. You'd have her go chopping at things but another kick like that and she's out again, and you'd rather save this one Revive for the person in charge. Yeah, you know Cole told you to stay out of a fight with the leader if you could avoid it, but given your luck? And besides, if you can beat the boss on your own, you get all the glory, right? First you gotta beat these two clowns though.
The Absol opens with a dive, knocking Niet back as he spews fire again. Thoreau adds to the assault by spraying the Dark-type down with poison; your hope that it would be flammable and kickstart a reaction doesn't play through, but you managed to slow it down a bit at least. The Scraggy leans back slightly, almost fading away into the shadows along the cavern walls, then dives forward and slams headfirst into Godel. Thankfully the damage is minimal, and she responds by vibrating her antennae again, causing all three trainers to shield their ears.
WALZEPHINA was recalled; THOREAU was sent out!
Enemy ABSOL used QUICK ATTACK!
NIETZSCHE used EMBER!
Enemy SCRAGGY used FAINT ATTACK! It's not very effective...
THOREAU used ACID! Enemy ABSOL's Special Defense Decreased!
GODEL used SUPERSONIC! Enemy SCRAGGY became Confused! Enemy ABSOL became Confused! NIETZSCHE became Confused! THOREAU became Confused!
That might be more harm than help, but you command the team to continue pressing the attack regardless. The Absol shakes its head and recovers almost instantly, then dives in to smash Niet once more; Niet manages a counter and sets its tail aflame. The Scraggy decides to switch targets and delivers another sweeping kick to Thoreau, but the well-rooted plant doesn't take near as much abuse as Walzi did. Thoreau ignores the attack and attempts to spray down the Absol again, but in its disorientation covers its face with its tendrils and splashes its own acid back on its body. Godel chases after the fleeing scrapper and flings herself haphazardly, rolling along the ground then bouncing up and headbutting him in the back.
Enemy ABSOL is Confused! Enemy ABSOL used QUICK ATTACK!
NIETZSCHE is Confused! NIETZSCHE used EMBER!
Enemy SCRAGGY is Confused! Enemy SCRAGGY used LOW KICK!
THOREAU is Confused! It hurt itself in its confusion!
GODEL used TACKLE!
Down comes the Absol's horn again, slicing a gash through Niet's fur; in attempting to retaliate, your poor hound gets tripped up in the blade and flung onto his back. The Scraggy likewise gets tangled, tripping on its own tail, but Thoreau manages to get his head on straight and launches another acid burst at the Absol, finishing it off. Godel likewise stomps on the downed Scraggy, bouncing haphazardly over and on its prone body with gleeful abandon. You swear in her weird chittering you hear schadenfreudeic laughter.
Enemy ABSOL's Confused no more! Enemy ABSOL used SCRATCH!
NIETZCHE is Confused! It hurt itself in its confusion!
Enemy SCRAGGY is Confused! It hurt itself in its confusion!
THOREAU is Confused! THOREAU used ACID! Enemy ABSOL fainted!

Outnumbered three to one, the Henches cut their losses, call back the Scraggy, and bolt.

They fled into this tunnel. Something tells you this is where the explosion came from, and thus where the leader will probably be.
Patching up your abused team is an obvious must, so you sort through your Potions and such for the necessities. No more burn for Walzi either - despite her stubborn front and the fact that it makes her tougher somehow, it's not worth the extra harm she'll be taking when you're in a fight with the guy in charge of this.
What next... or do you just go and roll with the punches?

Tracer Bullet doesn't need some pansy motto to let people know he's not to be trifled with.
If you see the big boss, chances are that he(she?) is going to have some of those theft balls. You're gonna want to keep Walzi protected here. Even so, having her kick up a sandstorm first thing in the next fight will help immensely. If the weather effect blinds the grunts, you can attack them and avoid the pokemon battles completely. Chances are the boss is gonna have some powerful mons, and they'll probably out-level your guys by at least 4-5 levels. Even if they can still see you in the sandstorm, half of your team is built for it.
Okay first use the escape rope to the and go outside of the pokemon center.First make sure to put Godel ball inside you bag NOT YOUR BALL SLOT,YOU PACK.After that is done, withdraw Pinecone, see Godel is not in your team so it is allowed. You can name him if you want. Before you enter the cave again, make sure to buy lot's of repels and an escape rope or two. When you enter the cave MAKE SURE TO NOT ADD GODEL TO YOUR TEAM. Just go to the entrance right before the cave where you are sure the boss is there. Now take out the pinecone and tell it to explode when it hit's something and THROW IT LIKE A GRENADE! When you hear the Kaboom, put godel in your team and enter fast.Make sure to return Pinecone before they steal him.Since you have a full team Pinecone will be sent to the computer immediately.get ready to sic your pokemon because someone is now ropyally pissed.

You retrieve Nobel from the computer and add him to your party, pocketing Godel in your bag while you do so. By League regulation this is technically illegal and can get your license suspended indefinitely. But dammit, you're trying to be heroic here. Breaking eggs to make an omelet, that kind of thing.

For good measure you purchase and soak yourself in a bottle of Repel. No sense getting your team worn down by wild Pokemon while you try to deal with criminals.

I love Mel.
Calvin: Make a note of training your Pokemon. That last one was just shy of lvl. 20, and they're only going to get stronger. Besides, the next gym may be around that range.
I bet all you people who said "Box Godel" are feeling really, really dumb right now.
Nah. Bug pokemon are still next best thing to worthless, aka: Higher on the scale than Bidoof. Any decent psychic pokemon could have pulled the same. The fact that Godel currently IS our psychic is secondary to the long-term sentiment of using better pokemon.
Go then. There are other lesbians than these.

Someone hasn't played Gen 5.
EDIT: Metagame info:
Venonat's base stat value total (305) is equivalent to the following critters, among others: Carvanha, Cubchoo, Ferroseed, Machop, Mankey, Numel, Shellder, Smoochum, Timburr. Not a bad group to be part of.
Venomoth's (450) is equal to: Chansey, Cherrim, Granbull, Piloswine, Sandslash, Seaking. Again far from worthless.
Bidoof for comparison is 250.
You have been educated.
Having long been in the "Bugs are worthless" camp, Gen 5 changed my mind. Some of those things are nasty. Especially given that one of the very few fire-types you get in gen 5 is a Bug type...
I would recommend firstusing disable and then supersonic. Disable only works if your opponent gets an attack on the previous round (I think) but supersonic worls regardless of if the enemy could attack or not.
I immediately noticed that 95% of everyone on the opposite side of every argument were complete idiots. After a while, however, I started to realise that 90% of everyone on my side of every argument were also idiots. Then I realised that statistically, that meant there is a 90% chance that I am an idiot. And now I don't post on the Bioware forums anymore.
Ah, yes, exactly. Bug = Better than Bidoof. Said it myself I did.
Nevertheless... the fact of stat-value can't make up for the fact that a Venomoth, in-practice, is incredibly seldom going to do anything even close to what those others listed will do. At least, most of them. I'm not familiar with the movesets and types of all of those offhand. Haven't even tried using a Venomoth since Gen 3.
Oh... and no, I haven't played Gen 5. If they upset the longstanding tradition that bugs evolve the fastest, but are shit compared to other fully evolved pokemon, then really, it's barely even a pokemon game anymore! It's like offering pokemon not based around fire, water, leaf, and/or pikachu in the beginning.
Go then. There are other lesbians than these.

I have to say that Mel's quirk annoyed me immensely. Also her Pokemon were leveled high enough that I actually feel like the battle wasn't nearly as challenging as it should have been. You really got lucky with Supersonic hitting right away and the enemy hurting themselves in confusion every single time. But I digress. It was pretty awesome and intense when she actually pulled a gun out on him; I was actually a bit worried for a minute; thought maybe she'd get a (nonlethal) shot at him and send him to the hospital.
Given the direction Cole came from (the same direction the bad guys left to), did he encounter and stop the other operatives? What of all those jewels?
...Also that Pineco should have totally been named Sacrifice.
Equal to Chansey, Piloswine, Sandslash and Seaking is a bit more than "Better than Bidoof".
Meh. I've always liked Bugs. And while every Gen has its Caterpie/Weedle counterparts and their equivalent low-level/meager-powered evolutions, there's also the Scythers and Heracrosses out there. Venonat/moth I'd always rank as a little below the true Bug powerhouses.
The addition of actually effective Bug moves (as opposed to bluh bluh Leech Life and Pin Missile) is definitely a plus as well.
Guess it's not then. Meet Volcarona, Scolipede, Durant, Escavalier, and Accelgor. Plus the first Bug-type Legendary, Genesect.Oh... and no, I haven't played Gen 5. If they upset the longstanding tradition that bugs evolve the fastest, but are shit compared to other fully evolved pokemon, then really, it's barely even a pokemon game anymore! It's like offering pokemon not based around fire, water, leaf, and/or pikachu in the beginning.
They are bugs and will eat your face. Three of them (Volcarona, Escavalier, and Accelgor) are half the Champion's Team.
Welcome to Gen 5.
Was fun as heck to write though. It does have a reason which'll be explained in time.
Hitting was an easy thing due to CompoundEyes. The self-damage every time though, that was sheer luck on the dice. I was actually sitting there going "Oh you've got to be kidding me!!" Was tempted to redo that section of the battle to give Mel some better luck, but figured leave it as it lay and let Calvin get lucky for once. Also her Pokemon were leveled high enough that I actually feel like the battle wasn't nearly as challenging as it should have been. You really got lucky with Supersonic hitting right away and the enemy hurting themselves in confusion every single time. But I digress.
He won't be able to get away with that again though.
If she'd gotten a shot, it wouldn't have been nonlethal unless he was even luckier than he was in the battle. It was pretty awesome and intense when she actually pulled a gun out on him; I was actually a bit worried for a minute; thought maybe she'd get a (nonlethal) shot at him and send him to the hospital.
DUN DUN DUNNNNNN (next update =D )Given the direction Cole came from (the same direction the bad guys left to), did he encounter and stop the other operatives? What of all those jewels?
Second, actually. The first is Arceus with the Insect Plate. Though Genesect is the first true Bug-Type Legendary.
