    HARK! A Vagrant!

One of the best comics I've had the pleasure of reading. Ms. Beaton does a great job with expressions, timing, and even has drawn a panel of Problem Sleuth. I'd argue that it's the best webcomic I've ever read, but I don't feel like getting tarred and feathered by my fellow forumites.

    Edit: welp... that was embarassing

H!AV is pretty cool. There's always a references that makes the comic funnier if you recognize it, but the comedy itself is good enough that even if you aren't familiar with the subjects of that particular strip it's still funny.

Ms Beaton, not mrs. I don't know if you're a native English speaker, but in English, mrs denotes a marital status. Ms is the appropriate general term.

Ms or Mrs, Kate Beaton has an awesome style! I love her simple drawings and smart jokes! Her historical references made me rediscover love for my junior high history books!

I actually suffered through Wuthering Heights for 12th grade lit. But these parodies are making those old wounds allllll better.

I seriously wish I understood all the references she makes. Every time I get one, the comic goes from "heh heh that's a funny character that was probably real" to "oh my god this is genius"

    Re: HARK! A Vagrant!

Hark! A Vagrant is waaay up there on my webcomics list. If I ever decided to think about which one single comic was my "favorite", it would be in the running.

I do often wish I was more familiar with all of her source material though; individual strips always stand well on their own (which is part of why I respect Kate Beaton's writing so much), but the ones where I read the comic and know the history or literature behind it are always fantastic. Curse my American heritage!

The best H!AV strip is Sexy Batman

I discovered Kate Beaton Recently and I LOVE THIS COMIC!

I don't know, it just works for me for some reason.

    Something about anachronisms in history...

I know I'm missing the point, but my favorite part of Sexy Batman is Harley Quinn's "Foiled again Mista J" panel.

Nova Scotia has a strict rule that only so many talented Nova Scotians are allowed to be released every few years, you know, to help us keep a low profile.
But between her and Joey Comeau, that quota was filled to the brim and none of the rest of us are allowed to be awesome until 2016!

But AH, we need to go over the quota to compensate for BC giving us Justin Bieber (I apologize for that, BTW)!

    Re: HARK! A Vagrant!

I've been of the stalwart opinion for a while now that Kate Beaton is probably the funniest person currently in existence.

Not the funniest female in existence. Not even the funniest person on the Internet. The funniest person living right now.

I am not exaggerating. I love Kate Beaton.

She devises a great many avatar-worthy things.

A suggested activity next time you’re bored: go over the comic panel by panel and admire the large proportion of them that work without any surrounding context.

it is a really good webcomic because it is smart and about history while at the same time being really quintessentially internet-ish and simple (read: funny)

Kate Beaton has summed it up best herself: "I was told I make intelligent comics, and then I made a comic about a horse that pooped."

    Re: HARK! A Vagrant!

My favorite thing from Hark! A Vagrant is the last strip here:

I can't really explain why, but I break down into hysterical laughter whenever I read that. Sometimes I crack up at seemingly random times just because I've suddenly remembered that that strip exists.

H!AV is one of those comics that I promise to read all the way through and continue to read the updates but the promise goes unpromised and then I feel bad about it.

I just love the Garfield comic.

Sad, but true. OF course, if you produce some shitty rappers or have a great big political scandal you can shrink the 2016 route down a few years. Someone's got to balance out shitty rappers.

The cover comics may be some of my favorite comics.

Although the psychoanalysis one is sort of confusing to me, to be honest.

    Aww yesss Kate Beaton.

    Love her stuff.
Although I think all that cover stuff isn't that amazing... prefer the history references.
Somehow a lot of the humour come from presenting usually serious things in such a silly manner for me.
