    Gunnerkrigg Court

Tom Siddell's Gunnerkrigg Court is the story of two girls who go to school at Gunnerkrigg Court. It is no ordinary school, though! The school is home to robots, people with paranormal abilities, and dark secrets in its past. And that's to say nothing of the neighboring Gillitie Woods, a forest full of shadows and mystical canines.

Gunnerkrigg Court does start out a little slow, and some people may not like it at first. For some reason people tend to get hooked around Chapter 9, so if you want to try the comic out, try to make it to that point.

Sometimes during breaks Tom Siddell does a comic called City Face. It is good. Even if you don't read Gunnerkrigg Court you might like it. There was a sequel.

This comic updates Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Thanks, Esrever, for introducing me to this comic a couple months ago. Unless, of course, it was actually Catnip who did. In which case, never mind.

I am consistently baffled as to how Tom Siddell does not make more money off his amazing work.

First, I read the first book in my library as Tv Tropes had hinted at it enough to make me decide to look at it. I approved. Then I read it up to date. My only concern was: Plot, why you no be further?

Still pretty chill though. The art style is tres bon!

Curse you homestuck for giving other webcomics a bad name in terms of updating!

I really like Gunnerkrigg Court. It was introduced to me only a few weeks after I found out about Homestuck (although I cannot picture myself obsessing about GKC nearly as much as I do Homestuck). I especially like quirky Kat, who is ever the supportive friend to Annie. Also, Coyote scares me just a tad.

I just read the first chapter and I was wondering, does the mood stay like this? It all feels a bit cold.

Nooooooooooooooooooo, the first few chapters are so far detached from the rest of the story. It gets a whole lot better soon, you just gotta stick with with it a little longer.

Coyote is quite adorable. Although I was moderately squicked when he did that thing with Annie. Spoiled it just in case for new readers.

Totally agreed. I don't think that I, myself, could feel like a normal human being ever again with the constant possibility of having my ha- *Coyote stalks up silently and tells MathGirl to stop talking. Or else.*

I have a city face shirt. It is my favourite thing

Gunnerkrigg runs a very, very close second to Homestuck in terms of favourite comics for me.

I quite like Coyote. He is very predictable in his unpredictability. I have a soft spot for tricksters.

Ysengrin is starting to grow on me, too. Uh, no pun intended.

Should I mention that I find Siddell's art to be absolutely gorgeous?

The art starts off a bit, uh, odd, but improves enormously. It really is one of the most beautiful comics these days.

gpoy, i LOVE trickster myths. there's a reason i chose to sculpt coyote last month, and it's not just because his design is very sleek

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

I love the twisty, convoluted feeling of the plot wrapping me up in its elaborate fantasyscape. Hence, I am an avid Gunnerkrigg court fan, but even more so a Homestuck fan.

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

I think the thing that captures me about GKC is the depth and symbolism of both their nonverbal and verbal conversation. Tom can convey with so few words what I think that very few online artists are capable of. Or often, he will say convey very profound, simple ideas through very "insignificant" dialogue. All around very skilled.

I'm sorry to interrupt this discussion of why Gunnerkrigg is so great to say, that the last two panels of today's crack me up.

And also, that Lindsey's mouth is borderline NSFW. Poor Annie...

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

Annie's expression in the last panel is pretty much the best thing ever. Storytelling and unbelievably good art aside, I feel that expressions are Gunnerkrigg Court's best point, or close to it. I mean, even a well-written story is only moderately entertaining if you aren't invested in the characters, and Tom's skill with facial expression goes a long way towards developing that investment. It gives you a better sense of each character than dialogue alone.

    Also those expressions are hilarious.
