I don't think she's trying to build any mystery. I mean she pretty much revealed all the characters in chapter 0 before they appeared.

I assume she's making fun of how redundant and senseless the plot points are, like why cucumber has to go in a *legendary quest* or how predictable it was when Almond handed over the whatever stone to Peridot.

I am going to guess that Chapter 1 is going to mainly have Cuco in the Ripple Kingdom as he tries to cope being all alone.

This is probably the page of Cucumber Quest that has, to me, the prettiest colors. Which is saying a lot.
The satisfaction of seeing Cucumber finally getting his magic on may have something to do with that sentiment.
