Oh my goodness this is awesome. I knew that the overlays existed (not ALL of them, but like three or four) but I would never think about their existence for the most part when I was reading.
But that I'm reminded by a nice little box that they exist, now I can enjoy the same Dinosaur Comic like a dozen times, which is pretty much great.
Thanks
Luckily I did decide to learn Javascript, making these GreaseMonkey scripts is fun.
Yeah, while making the script I found out there were a lot more overlays than I initially thought too.
Yeah, it's a shame those overlays were hidden like that. They're a great little bonus to the comic itself.

Oh man, this increases my interwebs enjoyment by a factor of plus 10, and reduces my productively spent free time by a factor of -everything. AWESOME, thank you super lots!
Also I am pretty fond of this one

I'm still waiting on this overlay to be implemented.

Hello i'm new on this forum and Thank you ! This script is pretty awesome.
Glad to see my script makes you guys so happy
Hmm, the site design must have changed a bit then, I have the same bug. NOOOORTH *shakes fist*
Thanks for pointing it out, I'll look into it.
EDIT: All right, finally found the problem. For some reason I had to use a different method to populate the dropdown list. Maybe a new Javascript version or a change in Firefox or something, I dunno. You're off the hook for now, Ryan.
Anyway, the new 1.4 version fixed the problem, at the cost of making the sourcecode slightly harder to read (nested functions! stray keywords!). Oh well, nobody's gonna read it anyway
Download link is in the first post, and here!

I know I shouldn't double-post, but I'm not sure if people will see the edit of the previous post otherwise. I fixed the bug, the latest version should work normally again.

Hooray!
All right, after some work, I managed to implement the latest overlay, the one with the SOPA/PIPA protest (It's about a month old, I know, I know. I missed a few updates). Turns out those overlay names are case sensitive!
But I also started thinking about the location of the dropdown list. In the header is functional, but it looks a bit stuffed in there. Therefore I tried a few different locations, and I'd like your opinion on where it would look best.
For reference, here's the comic section without my script active, and with the current location of the selection box:
I thought about putting it between the header and the comic, which would allow me room for a label in front of the dropdown box. There's two places for it:
There's also plenty of room below the comic:
I could possibly also add all of them and let users choose, but that would be bloating the script and would probably also be the start of feature creep.
Let me know what you guys and girls prefer!
I'll upload the new version tomorrow, with the location change (if there is any), since I'm leaving for a week tomorrow afternoon.

I think below the comic looks the most pleasing?
It also works a bit thematically because it would be "well I read that comic but I would rather be reading...."
With the current Utahraptor/T-Rex conversation setup, putting the box immediately below that adds some flavour. Hey, T-Rex, there's this book that features us! *T-Rex says something cool* ... but I would rather be reading [xyz]. >_>
That setup probably will not last forever, though, so directly below the comic might be the most long-term sensible. The only possible issue I can think of is for the one that has a tiny screen (e.g. due to reading on a netbook), as thon might have to scroll down to get to the dropdown menu? But if thon downloads the script, it seems likely thon will know the menu should be there and look for it accordingly.
