There's intriguing previews on iTunes (though I can't get those to work) and Amazon.

See also Let Me Down Easy from their first one. Also I'm A Good Woman, which is on youtube

And as far as records that get a lot of replay, Rafael Cameron's self-titled on Salsoul. None of the tunes would make it into a top ten or anything, but every track is great. Can't say that about too many rekkids. Also it's side X and side Y for no reason.

Check out the tape stop. Randy Muller, however, would make a top ten list of disco producers.

    ...

I have records on while I am doing not-computer things :V

I have nothing negative to say about De La Soul. But we do have a hip hop thread!

There is no disco thread because it would be only me.

I figured I'd start posting rap in here but not if people object, since there's not enough audience to keep the hip hop thread alive. I tend to think I shouldn't be forward with it though since in my experience it is one of the most common genres for people to "hate" or find offensive, not just dislike.

    Oh. I didn't know that :(
I guess better that than this thread getting moved to the Serious Business forum due to debates...

I don't object, but it's like if we don't post hip hop in the hip hop thread why do we have one.

Disco gets a lot of hate, but it's not a high visibility genre anymore. Doesn't stop me from posting it all the time.

And I know this is not the position that this forum takes but who the fuck cares if someone gets offended?

    Re: IV: On The Floor

I figure the hip hop thread is pushed down far enough that we can move beyond it, and consolidate music talk here. It makes more sense to encourage diversity within this thread rather than promote subcultures.

Rap might be a little unique in that part of the offense it can cause is with aggressively bigoted philosophies. I've felt uncomfortable a number of times on Facebook seeing hip hop heads making comments like "I ain't gay bashing, but f____ts r fukkin disgusting and its wrong, it goes against God". You don't have to look far to find the sentiment in lyrics, and yet, I absolutely love the songs. The beat and rhymes can be independently appreciated, of course, but maybe I also like the braggadacio in a warped way? I'm not certain myself. When I listen to rap, however, I always feel like I'm enjoying character performances, even if I disagree with whatever conspiracy theories, violence, discrimination, or anti-heretic remarks they celebrate. But then when I see it in reality it's way more unnerving.

So it's always in my mind that I could be posting something hurtful if I share a (hard) rap song, if there's even anyone clicking on them. Maybe it's similar to someone who really enjoys skinhead metal trying to share it.

    I can't argue with that!

Also, that press kit is great. Major nerdgasm seeing Prince Paul in like 1990 with a Sequential TOM on his lap. OW!

You know, I've kind of learned that this is the way to appreciate rap, at least for me. It's still not something I seek out, but say when a friend turns on their tunes in the car, rather than just shut myself off to it I've learned exactly what you're saying, because I can enjoy the character performances I guess.

That said whenever you guys post it 'll either skip it or listen to the beginning and move on :P Not too much of a rap person.

You're both listening to the wrong rappers.

Oh sure, and cool Chameleons song.

This song's about epilepsy, which the singer had.

    On rap: Post it!

    Short sentences.

    Sir yes sir!

I used to be a big fan of Radiohead -- still am, just not as much -- but since I came across this remix album I find it difficult to listen to the original.

e: Not really hard rap, I guess.

These guys have a lot of good songs but I can't say I really love any of their albums. Their stuff is chill but I feel they play up the fact that they're a couple and it all feels kind of cutesy after a while.

Also, just got the pun in the title.

I really hate how people always hate on EDM artists, they're real people.

But apparently if you wear leather and something on your face people find you disturbing.

But I enjoy this. And I get how different this album was back in 1979.

Interpol pretty much copied this wholesale.

Re: June, I spotted this sample:

Good fer me. It is actually from a different record in the series with the same backing music. But that's not on youchoob.

This is some Joy Division you might prefer. Yeah, it's New Order, but the song was made while Ian Curtis was still alive and the band hadn't become all dancey.

    E: Yessss Disorder. My favorite.
