Welcome to Tontine. Let's play.
In the following weeks, you will be competing against 22 other players in the hopes of being the winner of one million hypothetical dollars (H1,000,000). You will be participating in a variety of challenges, of both a creative and an intellectual nature. Some of these challenges will earn you money to be put into your Kitty. Other challenges will place you on the razor's edge as you compete to remain in this game. Be warned: with 23 players, the eliminations will come hard and fast, so don't think you'll have it easy in the first challenges.
To make sure everything is clear rules wise, here's how each round works:
First, there will be the Priviledged's Challenge, where you will earn hypothetical money based on your ranking. At the end of the challenge, the 5 lowest ranked players of that round will become Paupers. 5. This is more than the original rulse stated because a larger number of players have joined.
Secondly, there will be a Paupers' Challenge, where you will compete to remain in the competition and, hopefully, return to the Priviledged to earn more hypothetical money. Every challenge, two Paupers will be eliminated from this game and two Paupers will return to the Priviledged.
The amount of hypothetical money you have in your kitty is important. At the endgame it will decide just how easy or hard of a time you will have remaining in the game. Having more hypothetical money than others may even yield advantages in certain challenges.
So, let's get to it. The first challenge is:
.gif made by the infinitely sexy crepuscularDissembler. Raise your glasses in a toast please.
Before you are 25 topics and 2 letters that have been randomly drawn out of a Scrabble pouch. For your first challenge, you must provide two answers for each topic, one answer starting with the first of the two letters provided and the other answer starting with the second letter. This means you will have 50 answers total, 25 for each letter. PM me your answers and keep them secret until I reveal them in this thread please.
Rules:
You will score one point for each answer deemed correct by the Brains Trust. However, you will only receive that point provided that no other player has submitted the same answer. If two or more people provide the same answer for the same topic and letter, nobody will score a point for that answer. Each player will be ranked from first to last based on how many points they scored. In case of a tie, the player that will be ranked higher will be the player that provided the higher number of correct answers total (unique or otherwise), and in case of a further tie, the player who provided the highest number of answers that are unique only to one other player, and so on and so forth.
For example: the topic is "Homestuck Characters" and the letters are R and J. Player 1 submitted "Rose" and "John". Player 2 submitted "Rose and Jade". Player 3 submitted "Rastafarian" and "Jade". Player 1 would receive 1 point. Player 2 and 3 would receive 0 points. Player 2 would be ranked higher on the final rank due to their total score of 2 correct answers to Player 3's 1 correct answer.
Any disputable answers will be submitted to judgement by the Brains Trust. Theirs, and my own judgement, will be final in that matter.
All answers must be valid words in the English Language where applicable. (read: you can use a Proper Noun where applicable, but no foreign languages used to score yourself an extra point).
Any Questions?
Your Topics
Your Letters
The Rewards
The Players
Remember, if you have one of the five lowest scores in this challenge, you will become a Pauper. Good Luck. You have 72 Hours to complete this challenge.
Don't let me stop you. Begin.

Well, there goes my afternoon. I'm up for the challenge.
Also
This thread has been blessed with my 3000th post. Huzzah.
Good luck players!
And blessed we are.
I've had a couple of questions via PM so I'll answer them here:
Firstly, there's no rule against repeating the same answer for different topics. If you think answering "DONUT" to every answer will garner you a suitable amount of points then go ahead (if I receive a joke submission from anyone with DONUT as all of the answers I'm deducting 5 points from your score. Seriously. Don't even think about it.)
Secondly, you may answer with multiple words. That being said, don't think you can get away with a large sentence as an original answer. If I think you're point fishing as opposed to actually trying to find a legitimate answer I will take it to the Brains Trust. Perpendicularitarily, if two answers are similar or refer to the same thing (Raspberry plant and raspberry bush, for example) then you won't receive a point either*. I like creativity in your answers, but don't play "Original Words: The Game". This is about trying to outwit your fellow players, not me.
*Of course, something like "Eat" vs. "Ear" in the three letter word category is a completely different case entirely.

Good question. If we're talking a category that just refers to a word and your answer just happens to be about somthing fictional (say, "Dragon") then sure, because while it's fictional, it's an English word. Outside of that however, I have to rule that you cannot use anything fictional in your answers. This competition is trying to find answers that lie in the subset of reality. You can't list "Nerdook" as a country because you read it while skimming Law & Order: SVU fanfiction because nobody else would have heard of it and it will bring out the "I didn't know I could do that" flame wars. You cannot use fictitious people, places, things, etc.
That being said, Urban Dictionary is not a real dictionary and I will not accept any answer that's only source is UD. I may accept words about fictitious things, but not fictitious words. "Niall" is in Urban Dictionary for crying out loud and, although I don't disagree with its definition, you certainly can't enter "Niall" in the "Words with a Double Letter".
Something else you can't do (I'm just a barrel of laughs today) is use Brand Names in front of your answers. "Red Bull" is a legitimate answer, being an actual unique beverage, but "Red Bull Airshow" is not. That's just an "Airshow". And it's not a "RYOBI Hand-drill", it's a "Hand-drill". The answer is supposed to reflect the category in question. If there were a "Brands of Power Tool" then RYOBI would work, but the categories refer to general applications of their definition in most cases.
Yup, I sound like a hard ass today. Mods gotta mod.
If I see anything in the submissions that I don't think will be fair to allow but haven't previously mentioned, I'll contact the player in question and mention it here. That is, I'll contact the player if I believe that they legitimately didn't realise that their answer was invalid. If it's just wrong, then you submitted a wrong answer.

Time check.
ETA: Ahkays we've got until noon.

I think that quite a few people would like to have a 24-hour extension. Could it be doable?
So I took the liberty of looking up Niall in Urban Dictionary for those too lazy to:
Niall
somebody who is extremely sexy
Debate starts now
I would love an extra 24 hours.
You guys not done yet?
What about me? I actually did the challenge on time - within the first 24 hours, I think, and definitely within the first 48. What do I earn for abiding by the conditions, if an extension is given? Clearly, those who are late should be penalized.

I've been sidetracked by rage-inducing events that doesn't really place you in an adequate mood for peaceful word-hunting.
But allright, I don't mind being eliminated.
pleeeaaaase extend time ;_;
i have had little to no free time doing this
