Monsters and Masters RBY version (a Pokemon Tabletop RPG)

Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Professor Oak, many people think of me THE Pokémon Professor but I‘m an just an old man who knows a lot about Pokémon.
This world is inhabited by many creatures called Pokémon from the lowly Caterpie to the mighty Dragonite, for some people Pokémon are pets while others use them for fighting, there even some that enter them in special contests! Myself... Well I study Pokémon as a profession; alas I‘m not as youthful as I used to be, still you strapping young folk still have your vim and vigour left in you.
I have for each of you a Pokémon so that you can begin your journey; normally I wouldn’t just hand over these Pokémon willy-nilly but you agreed to help me, so it’s the least I could do. You all should have installed the Pokédex app onto your smart-phones, it will let you access a database with all sorts of information on Pokémon as well as collect data like more precise height measurements or a better idea of it‘s preferred habitat, that is why I called you here, there are still unknowns, there are many Pokémon not even in the database! If you could find and capture as many Pokémon as you can, you will help us learn alot about the world we live in.
Oh, and before I forget, meet Tootie O’Reyal, she will be travelling with you, if that is okay.

    H-Hello...
She needs some field experience, and I thought she could go with you, she is actually very knowledgeable having read many books and whatnot but she is very shy and is easily scared, almost cripplingly so, as such she has very little practical experience. If you could, please escort her to some places outside of this small town, hopefully she will feel more secure going with you, who knows she might become a learn a lot as well as becoming more comfortable around Pokémon and other people.
But enough of my rambling, introduce yourselves, you will be spending a lot of time with one another so it is best if you at least are aquatinted with one another.

You guys get 64 points to put into your trainer's stats. Cause apparently trainers aren't completely useless sacks of meat in this game!

Re: Monsters and Masters RBY version (a Pokemon Tabletop RPG)

    What does each stat do?

    Gender: Boy
    Name: Theodore "Teddy" Amastar
    Age: 14
Preferred Ball: The one of the far right
Appearance: Err. Green hat. Don't care bout the rest.
Background: Teddy's father left his mother when he was very young. His mother struggled to cope, often taking more then one job just to make ends meet. As a result, Teddy has grown up poor. All the rich kids made fun of him and even the teachers in his school believed that he would never amount to anything. He sets out with a chip on his shoulder point to prove. He's always been a rather stubborn guy, and has a somewhat toughguy image he tries to portray because thats the only way he knows how to cope. Deep inside, all he really wants is for his mother to be happy and proud of him, and will stop at nothing to make her life comfortable. His mother is his motivation and his drive.
Personality: Stubborn, puts on a bit of a tough guy front, and a rugged exterior. He's still young and immature - and it shows. Deep inside though, he cares, and if he sees someone in trouble he's likely to try and help them. He hasn't really had much contact with pokemon, and it will probably show, at first, but his determination and stubborness ought to pull him through. Hopefully, this journey will be a learning curve for him and result in his maturation as a person.

    Stat Allocation:
    STR: 12
    CON: 11
    DEX: 8
    INT: 7
    WIS: 12
    CHA: 14

(Stats are temporary until i find out what they do)

I just checked the player guide and:
For level 0 trainer stats, distribute 64 stat points to whichever stats the player would like as long as eash stat has at least 6 points and no stat has more than 14 points.
    Time to change up!

Correct MasterBlade, in fact about a third of the classes are ones that can actually fight alongside their Pokémon relatively easily.

I hope Tootie will be okay being escorted by a bunch of lads; I hope we get a(nother) girl to help balance the gender ratio, or at least make Tootie more comfortable. After all a shy person like her might not be very comfortable around a gang of the opposite gender.

I would advise reading through the rules, it will help alot, however if you aren't 100% sure about things don't forget there is a booksmart NPC that will be traveling with you.

Stats are mostly used for class prerequisites and feats. Think of what class you want to take and plan your stats out for it.

For instance, mine are geared for the Capture Specialist, then the Engineer class after that. Capture specialist requires Dexterity and Intelligence, while Engineer's skills uses willpower.

Willpower, do you mean wisdom, which they don't use? The Engineer is an INT based class with some DEX usage, the other four stats aren't used at all for the class except for their generic uses.

It's OK they seem very sciency so maybe you thought they went under Researcher or something.

That reminds me, on one of the pages it talks about being able to skip the genneral class and get an advanced class in certain cases, bit too complex and slightly arbitrary so I'm not using it. If you want to be a Petrologist and an Chef you will need to be both a Researcher and a Breeder as well/first.

Re: Monsters and Masters RBY version (a Pokemon Tabletop RPG)

Which is impossible since you can only have three classes.

    Do you allow weapons?

  16. #16

Re: Monsters and Masters RBY version (a Pokemon Tabletop RPG)

And considering you can only take three classes, that would be impossible. :P (NINJA'D! NUUUU)

I might sub as a researcher actually. That or Ball Designer; haven't decided yet. :/

Can someone help me with my world sprite? I'm trying to recolor the Rich Boy but I can't get the jacket to look right. :/

Actually you can get a 4th class slot by getting to Trainer Level 25 but it is unlikely anyone would get there.

Weapons are allowed but don't expect to be able to walk into a Pokémart and buy a broadswoard. Weapons aren't sold like candy and finding a decrnt weapon won't be easy and may cause emptiness in you trouser pockets.

Don't you automatically get one when you get a certain class?

    Also glad I could help!

Re: Monsters and Masters RBY version (a Pokemon Tabletop RPG)

Ah yes, if it's OK a few "house rules" for weapons:

You have to actually get the feat to be able to use them, skill with a weapon is not gifted to you from your class.

With out the feat all weapons are able to do 1d6 damage (as opposed to the 1d4 of an improvised attack).

You must get the weapon from somewhere if you want one, no bow from nowhere just because you know how to use it.

Some weapons give no return from Mastery or even Proficency, these are only the kinds that are not really weapons or are rubbish, a box cutter isn't as good as a bread knife which isn't as good as a combat knife.

If you have a Pokémon of a specific type you can take a feat to change the type from none to that type, you need a Pokémon of that type in your party to make use of the feat though; being a Rain Maker/Air Adept/Fire Breather/Earth Shaker or any other class that gives you moves of specific types gives the same effect. (I am aware they have some already but I wanted universal coverage of elements)

    Any questions?

So my arm wont instantly transform into a metal death machine?

    This saddens me. :{

Re: Monsters and Masters RBY version (a Pokemon Tabletop RPG)

If you aren't proficent in the weapon type the blade attachment gives it'll bump it up one. (I know it says it gives proficency but this is a happy medium between what it says and my occasional "no free lunch" attitude)

Also nice job on the spritework! Unfortunately I cant use sheets with a transparent back, it fills the empty with black for some reason and as outlines and other stuff are black... sorry...
