My personal favorite is Solariss. In my headcanon she is the Mage of Joy and she goes God Tier. Her hood is purple and her power is to instill enemies with the inability to attack due to an overwhelming sense of happiness.

I also came up with the dodecants (12) of Squiddle Romance ascribed to be represented by what humans recognize as birthstones.

The dodecants of Squiddle romance. They can be tricky to navigate.
Garnet - Full on death-seeking hatred
Amethyst - Less lethal absolute loathing (Kismeses are here)
Bloodstone - General hate/strong dislike
Sapphire - Ambivalent distrust/uncooperativeness, the two personalities clash in a way that causes problems, but not really hatred.
Agate - same, as sapphire, but balanced by a mutual party who allows them to cooperate successfully. This would be general auspisticizing.
Emerald - General acquaintanceship. No bad blood, no real strong bonds either. It’s mostly apathetic. This is gonna happen a bit when you have 48 squiddles.
Onyx - Starting friendship. The joys of new friends. Yay.
Carnelian - Deeper friendship, where the two (or more) are strong teammates and work together well, with their personalities working as they need to.
Peridot - A true balance of friendship between two people, where their personalities perfectly match to each others’ needs. This would be moirallegience.
Aquamarine - Funny floaty lightheaded maybe romantic feelings are emergent here. This dodecant can be occupied exclusively by one person.
Topaz - Lovey-dovey beginning of relationship style romance. The honeymoon phase, if you will, expressed entirely by a dodecant.
Ruby - True love. If you are truly compatible in this dodecant, you two are tangle-lovey-buddies for life.

There is no obligation to use any of this, but since I had it already I figured it wouldn't hurt to post it here.

Your 12 colors in bright, dark, faded light and faded dark idea is great and I don't see any of the colors who are too similar. Really. o-o

24 letters, but we are thinking of using capital letters as well giving us 48 I think... Also I was talking about bright yellow and bright yellowish green looking too simular.

I'm not sure about some of those, but how about knave instead of slave, and son instead of child? After all 'Son of Time' sounds better than 'Kid of Time', and 'Knave of Heart' is much cooler than 'Slave of Heart'. Also I rather liked 'fool' as a title.

As for colours, well 10c2 is 45 (That means that if you have 10 starting colours, you can make 45 different pairs), so if each squiddle has a primary and a secondary colour, that gives us 45 squiddles off the bat with only ten different colours. Add to that black, white and grey, and you're set.

The original idea to go with the names of the continental US states, I think, was just a running theory that was never really followed up on. We were just joking around how California would be the stereotypical surfer/stoner and he would use surfboardkind or something equally silly. Or I thought on my own that Wyoming would be the "Forever Alone" character. But I'm rambling here.

While we are finializing that list I'm going ahead and start looking at the next stage since I believe we got the classes and aspect pretty well covered with the support we have now; which i admit is more than I thought we would get by this point. I have to say that I underestimated this forum. So many other forums are so much less willing to help with independent projects. (ug again with the ramble)

After getting a list of 48 classes and aspects, we should look into character symbols, archetypes, then names.

Starting with symbols because that will take time as well(Well, it might, depends on what we decide). We could do something like what Mythee mention and "squdify" existing symbols, or come up with our own. I think it comes down to how much effort we want to put into this. I'm up for making our own, but if the general consensus is to work with something familiar we should just go with that. We would have 48 if we used the Greek Alphabet as mentioned earlier, which if we are not making our own, I would vote for and it wouldn't look that bad either. I'm just starting to think if we use the greek letters if we should work into story the difference between lower case and upper case, maybe it can be the squiddle class system, it could differentiate between two races of squiddle, or something.

I think I will start coming up with character archetypes, plus it will help when we come up with more in-depth personalizes later.

Edit: and colors damn it. How did I forget that. Bluh I guess I'll look into that too.

Edit2: ok i brought a swatch to hopefully help with colors. There is like 122 colors there, obviously there are some color we shouldn't use like the various browns and greys but its a nice starting point.

Ok i was told some aspects need to culled still, so here is what I would cull from the list:

-Charge
-Curse
-Fire
-Metal
-Rain
-Grass
-Text
-Rock
-Tech

Some of them like Fire, Rock, Grass, Metal, and Rain just don't have the same punch as the others, and feel like they have been used so many times before that if we don't have to use them I think we would be better off not. Charge and Curse just doesn't have that ring to them in my opinion(Knight of Charge, Mage of Charge, Seer of Curse, Maid of Curse. Meh they are not for me). Tech can be culled as well because its weird to call it that instead of technology, it just seems like we are taking a shortcut with this one so I would feel better if we ditched it. Finally Text just doesn't sit well with me for the same reasons as Charge and Curse, but I would be a lot more ok with it if we change it to Word(s) instead. It also sounds more majestic that way, Knight of Word vs Knight of Text. If we change it to Word(s), I would cull Depth next.

On a slightly unrelated note, The thought of a squiddle attempting to use a giant battleaxe is just plain adorable.

Hmm, maybe some of the rejected aspects will do well as part of the medium area names?

... Should we invent those according to the character or make a list of 96 words beforehand?

I like the Idea that two squiddles have four romance dodecants. (Two for each of them, Allowing for one-sided relationships and thinking of a person as two different things.)
That would be kind of cool.

Should ALL of them be considered romance?
...It would be weird if we made it so that all of them were involved in reproduction.

if you're using the greek alphabet, maybe it would be better to use 24 different hues, with the uppercases and lowercases being lighter/darker shades of them, like this (of course, it would be good to distinguish them a bit better, like this or something (plus a few shades of gray could be thrown in for whatever reasons :V))

First of all, Greek letters sounds good. Are we all okay with this?
And I could go with a class system depending on upper or lower case. Maybe fresh water/salt water.

Next, classes/aspects.
For the most part, I agree with Redcap. However, I like Depth. I could totally imagine a Seer of Depth or an Heir of Depth.
And we should keep water, but change it to something else. Maybe Wave(s)?

I approve of the Text => Word change. And now I can't stop thinking about a Knight of Word being the pacifist of the group.

Names/romance: The names are okay, but let's not decide on them yet.
But the romance? No.
No no no no no.

These are anthropomorphic squids. Let's not copy Hussie and his different kinds of romance like every other derivative out there, okay?
Besides, isn't Squiddle romance tangle buddies?


Colors: Aerok's idea sounds the most substantial.

The trolls only have that for the imperial drone who needs 2 buckets, but I doubt that's how Squiddles work. Let's not get too in depth in the concept of Squiddle reproduction.

TANGLE BUDDIES HOW COULD WE FORGET. Omg yeah. xD This reminds me of those squid valentines cards (DA) I made awhile back.

Capital/lowercase greek letters for a total of 48 being separated into freshwater and saltwater lower and higher castes would result in a neat 50% split of the characters into lower class and higher class. The half-half ratio seems to set the premise more for opposing factions/cultures than for a higher and lower caste. o-o

Why'd you use Kid in your example uncoolname? There is no Kid on the list. o-o But um. Son is already present in the list I have. Yay. 8D
Added Knave! And also Groom, because there is Bride. And redid the count properly. xD Now that they are numbered it should be easy to use an RNG to match up combinations! (Like this RNG here.)

Just a thought: if we have two Squiddles living in each house, that would reduce our number of lands to 24, which is much more manageable than our out-of-control set of 48 - this would lead to a more compact and sensible adventure. Furthermore it would make the planets easier to come up with, as a land shared between a ___ of Space and a ___ of Void would always be something along the lines of 'Land of Hush and Frogs'. The other option would be to have both Squiddles in a house have the same aspect, for example Bride of Space and Groom of Space, Witch of Breath and Mage of Breath; this option would halve the number of aspects you need to define and explore, again making things more manageable and bringing them back into the sanity zone. After all, 48 of each thing is far too much for the average reader to keep a hold of.

That could work, but would also add to some flaws as well. How would both of the squiddles be considered players? Only the one operating the game would be considered the player. Also, it would be awkward having two servers to the same house, how would it work? For that matter, what would happen if one of the players in the house got into the medium before the other player? Also I don't think two players can share the same land either.

It sounds like a good idea to make things less overwhelming, however I think that it would add too many errors the game would not allow.

True, but it's worth noting that the time provided to enter the medium is independent of the time when the cruxtruder is activated, meaning two squiddles playing in the same house would operate off of the same timer. The other stuff may seem awkward, but only because we are used to seeing SBURB played in a different manner. We have no obligation to remain exactly true to the Kid/Troll version of SBURB. And having two players working together as server and two denizens on each planet isn't all too hard to get one's head around.

But yeah, it was just a suggestion.

If it was up to me I'd do away with Bride, Groom and Son. xD What kinds of roles are those. What do YOU think should be replaced with your suggestions? :3

Edit: Also, I like Rotational's suggestion a lot. Every species has its differences. Even the game's name changes. The two squiddles per household and land thing would simplify things a lot.

Yeah this project is basically amazing. I love most of Willspark's names, by the way, and I like the Greek alphabet idea but it does seem a bit too trollish, imo :\

After all, the humans had something more akin to pictures or graphics, symbols seem like a Troll culture thing always related to the ancestors. What's wrong with, like, one Squiddle with a fish and one with a sun and one with bubbles or a mushroom or a star or a frowning/smiley face etc.?

It's adorable and also looks refined enough to be used by my standards, idk about what the final general consensus would be on though. xD I'd love to see them with various tentacle lengths and some with different facial dimensions, and slightly different shapes, too. Face it, these guys are much more simple than humanoids to animate and draw various models of.

Two squiddles to a house should be good! i think they should still have different aspects though. I guess the dodecant stuff is really just kind of confusing. Lets see... alternatives. Tangle buddies is squiddle romance, BUT how should it work? I always imagined it as being kind of like a squiddle hug.

I think the design should stay very basic!!!!! I like the idea that squiddles find it hard to give themselves an identity.
The class system is good. Capital letters should probably be upper class, and non-capital letters should be lower class. Saltwater/Freshwater... Should freshwater be upper class or lower class?
Different tentacle lengths are fine though, but I would prefer if they had the same facial dimensions.

Hmm. Squiddles usually live underwater, but they can fly if they need to.

I support changing text to words Because knight of word totally makes no sense at all.

Depending on which mark a squiddle is born with... It is carted off to one of the lower class or upper class areas? or should it be a coincidence?
