Thread: MSPA Fan Music 2: Now In Cut Time

Re: MSPA Fan Music 2: Now In Cut Time

Thank you! I was really looking for feedback since I felt that the track sounded good, but that it lacked something...

The instrument additions were the toughest part, since I didn't want to go overboard with them, but I didn't want the track to be just Beatdown slowed down either. It's probably why the atmospere was a bit boring. That's also why I spent a good part of my time working on the kit, to give the track more identity, so I'm glad you liked it!

Anyway, thank you again for your feedback! Now I now I didn't go far enough with this track.

    EDIT:

Here's another remix : Sburban Scratcher

Hey people I made more music:

I'm going for a kind of desert or ruins theme. Think WV or PM wandering the landscape.

The record scratchy drums are cool, though they may be a bit on the heavy-handed side sometimes. They feel a bit loud and overused at parts.

I like some of the instruments, and I like the sense of flow it kind of perpetuates. The atmosphere is nice, too, so there are definitely things I like about this piece, but...

Overall, the instrument choices seem a bit arbitrary. There seems to be little connection between them. I think some this feeling comes from the fact that many of them are used very briefly.

The rest of this feeling comes from the fact that the song feels empty. There's no good background track tying it all together, so it just feels like a bunch of tracks put together.

It would really benefit from a good bass, and maybe a good pad as well. I would also maybe try adding a different drum to fill in the parts where the scratchy thing is silent. More reverb to the piano couldn't hurt either.

It's a great base, it just feels a bit lacking. I'd love to hear it with a nice bass added.

I like the atmosphere. It's quirky, perfect for the wanderers.

I like the instruments. The piano could maybe use a bit more reverb, but I think it's good as is, and the drums are nice.

Right off the bat, though, that bass part gets repetitive, especially in the intro. I would maybe shorten up the intro a bit. As for the rest of the first part bass, I like the rhythm to it. I would just suggest changing the bass chord rather than completely changing the bass.

I like the second part. It transitions nicely, and it's a nice change of pace, and I like how it goes back to the original rhythm shortly thereafter.

I think it should end at that part where it slows down, though. It feels like a good end point, and the rest of the song feels like it's just kind of rehashing after that. Also, the other ending doesn't sound quite as final/satisfying as the slowdown does.

Actually, if it didn't slow down it wouldn't be so off for me. Or if the slowdown ended on a IV chord rather than a V chord.

Overall, though, I like it. I'd like to hear more piano remixes like this here.

agree with rnd on milkow's song 100%, it feels very empty

edit: listening to aridity, i like it a lot. the melody reminds me of Bad Apple a little haha.
i feel like it is indeed a little repetitive. but you're certainly on the right track

I ended up having to remix "Elegy for a Thief" from last year for Land of Fans and Music 2 because I lost most of the song. Here's the new version!

I made some more music. Imagine being stuck on a dull, drab, gray meteor in space for 3 fucking years.

Or just listen to this since that's what I was going for.

Re: MSPA Fan Music 2: Now In Cut Time

is it three years of complete silence with the occasional whine about how boring it is

    *clicks*

    nope it's not YOU FAIL

seriously though that percussion riff is actually pretty cool. But it's, uh, all percussion?
I mean it sounds like the intro to something potentially kickass, but it just kinda builds and then... nothing.

Hmm, fair enough, and I think you're right. I experimented with adding a percussive melody or something but it didn't really pan out. Then I just beefed it up with more drums. I might revisit it later with a xylophone maybe? I dunno.

    It's all percussion

and you didn't use the basic stock crash cymbal once (you know the one)

You have no idea how much I love you right now

Re: MSPA Fan Music 2: Now In Cut Time

My only problem is why is the White Queen theme so much like a boss fight? There's no need to fight the queen in the game, the only boss mode generally seems to be fighting the Black King?
Perhaps in a very odd session would one want to strife with WQ but it just seems like an odd theme for her, in my opinion.
A lot of what I'm finding distracting in the songs is that a lot of them lack flow. It seems like section____________sectionend|newsection__________ ___sectionend| and it just feels like there's a great number of clean breaks there where the entire feels changes without so much as a bridge to connect the two.
I like a lot of what you've done, some of the timbre mixtures are really interesting, but I'm just not seeing the connection and flow.

Inspired by the update, I began this today.

    Hope is Found (WIP)

I messed with the Doctor theme a bit, and the whole thing is kind of like A Taste for Adventure. I made it on the notation program Noteflight, so the sounds aren't the best. Thoughts?

I actually enjoyed that quite a bit. Im pretty shabby with sight reading so is there any way you could make it into a midi? With Nexus this piece would sound really good. And is Noteflight a program? I've never heard of it.

Wow, thanks! Noteflight is a notation program, not a piece of production software, so the sounds effects are a bit shabby. And you can save it to a Midi by accessing the sheet music here, and clicking file-> export-> save as Midi.

They're excellently produced, but I can't help feeling some of them seem a bit simplistically composed. Especially the last one, it seemed very repetitive to me.
    Still, phenomenal sounds you're using.
