I come bearing music!
Years in the Future
A song about post-Scratch, post-invasion Earth, 413 years into the future.
A character theme for a fan session I'm playing (not my character). He is into heavy metal, science, and video games, so I made a song that reflected that aspect.
Oh yeah I also just made this.
The Sylph
It's Aranea-tastic!
it's good and you should feel good mud.

Literally just finished this one
I actually wrote this awhile ago, but couldn't think of a good way to adapt it. I knew I wanted piano, but I didn't want it to be solo piano. I messed with the idea of orchestra with varying results.
Then I heard Alternia, and decided to do it kind of like that. The final arrangement is inspired by that song. I think I managed to do my own thing with it, though.
A few things I'm worried about:
1. It doesn't clip on my speakers, but a friend of mine played it on their pc and it clipped. I don't know if this is because the song is too loud or because my friend has crappy speakers.
2. I like the synth I used, but for some reason it has a ridiculous attack value in the middle. I tried several things to fix it to no avail. I don't know if this ruins the song or not.
3. I'm afraid it might be too simple/repetitive. Recently, I've been trying to pull back and do simpler things. I think I overstretched myself with Cloudfall (and, to be honest, pretty much everything) and I just repeatedly fell on my face. The harmonies were overcomplicated, leading to a lot of pointless dissonance. I'm afraid I might be going too far the other way now, though.
Critique to your heart's content.

I liked it. I'd have to relisten to fully critique (which I don't have the time to do at the moment), but it was lovely to listen to.

Thanks!
As much as I love parts of Cloudfall, and as much as I see great potential in it, I personally don't think it works as a complete song. It's 8(!) minutes long, and it's full of baffling harmonic decisions. Dissonance is one thing, but it needs to have a structure and a format, and I don't think I have that. I was still kind of experimenting at that point (and I still am to a degree) and for every good decision I made I made two bad/random choices.
Maybe when I get better and start to understand the primal forces of dissonance I'm playing with, I'll go back and clean it up a bit, and make more pieces like it. For now, though, I'm going to do simpler things so I really understand how to structure a song, harmonies, melodies, etc, before I try to do anything as ambitious as Cloudfall again.
I'm definitely glad you liked it though, and I'm not giving up on things like Cloudfall, just taking a break. I'll make something like it again someday, I promise.
...
On another note, I was working on this at roughly the same time as the last song I uploaded, and I finished this just now. It's the first Homestuck remix I've ever done, and though it is admittedly simple (curse my lame piano composition skills!), it's short and varied and I think it holds up.
Comments/Critique is appreciated.

Hey guys, I was thinking about starting up a fun little contest here in the art forums, but I wanted to put it by you guys first and see what you think.
Basically it would be a collaboration contest with both musicians and artists. The gaol is to create a song for a piece of artwork, and rate the submissions based on the quality of the product and how well the pieces complement each other.
Obviously there would be more elaboration on rules and submissions for the official contest, but I'm writing this on my phone in the library lol. Anyway tell me what you think, and if it looks like it would be popular than I'll launch the contest in a new thread =D
-Edit-
Eh, I don't think I'm going to go through with this. It's highly unlikely that there would be enough participation to make it work, not to mention I don't really have any organization or form of prizes or anything like that. *shrugs* nbd, lol.

God this is perfect for GCat. It sounds so mischievous, like someone playing a prank that's gone WAY too far and the prankster doesn't even realize/care.
I personally love 8-bit music, so this is perfect to me. Later parts are chaotic, and that works out really well. It keeps the song from getting repetitive.
I really don't know what else to say about it.
Ooooooh the intro! Gah that's awesome.
The chord structure and the melody are unexpected and beautiful. Just... Gog.
There's a lot of dissonance, and I frickin' love that. I love the way the song flows, I like how the chord structure changes, and the changes back to the first structure. I just love this.
Sorry I can't really offer much critique. Ummm... Ok, how about this. The intro could maybe be shortened by a little bit. It's good as is, but I've found it's good for a song to jump into the main melody relatively quickly. Again, this isn't like a necessary thing or a rule, but it's something you could maybe play with. It would probably ruin the flow of the song, though, so don't worry too much about it.
I would also have artists create pieces of art for standalone songs so it goes both ways. I'm not an artist, I don't know how feasible this is, but it would be cool to see how artists visually interpret submitted pieces of music. Then they could be judged on how well their art goes with the music.

woah, didnt notice someone said something cool about my stuff. thank you very much! I'll take a crack at making a better version of UU,
but for now a better version of my decimation track
I really liked what i had in DECIMATION, so i couldnt help but try again with it all.
added more instruments and parts and turned it into what i think is an even more enjoyable track.
what do YOU think, person who read all of this?

Finale Strife
I had originally planned a long, slow burn song for the final battle with Lord English, but I ended up with this instead.
My main criticism, WMM, was that the wood block sound near the start seemed highly contrasting to the rest of the piece? As if it seemed unintentional.
Minor quip in all, it was an excellent song.

Whoops, I accidentally made a Homestuck song when I was supposed to be doing other things.
It's a song that's for Aranea/Terezi/Terezi'sForest/Dreambubbles
Criticism would be greatly appreciated.
OH HEY SHIT I guess I accidentally made the volume too loud and it starts fuzzing when it gets loud. I'll upload a better quality soon.

I love the bell synths you use in Memories. One little nitpicky thing is that to my ears the violin and flute sound "too vibrato" if that makes sense--the volume is fluctuating too drastically. I know you probably don't have much control over that other than what samples you use, but it just sort of distracts me. Maybe I'm just imagining things.
I hadn't noticed it before, but you're right. The flute definitely sounded odd though at the higher pitches and I couldn't really pin-point why, and that's it. I don't really have much samples, I should probably get a better flute and violin one though, hah.
Also, here is the improved quality version that doesn't have the buzzing. (There's a word for that, I'm sure)

Wow this is cool. It's very calming. I could see this fitting perfectly with a video game or something. I love the bell synths. I also love the piano. It sounds distant somehow, like it's being played in a cave or something. It makes it sounds much more interesting. It has a catchy chord structure and melody, and I could listen to it all day.
I'll have to agree with WMM that the flute and violin vibrato a bit much in the upper ranges. This doesn't bother me too much, especially seeing as it's a sound sampling issue. In the end, this piece is great.

Hello, everyone! I come with a question of great pertinence to tomorrow. The piece of music I have been working on for 13/4, despite nearing completion, only has its provisional name of 13412. It's supposed to represent all four sets of characters (Alpha and Beta Kids and Trolls). And suggestions for this currently 11 minute long masterpiece's title? I'll be sure to post it in here either when I finish it, or 13/4, whichever comes last.
