Re: Chumdroid -- Pesterchum for Android

Well I found out how to add chums (Menu button on my HTC Inspire) so I should be set. My portable chumtag is psychoticBacofoilp. I had to add the extra p so that the system would let me use both programs.

I had a thought for a method to drum up money for iOS development. If I released quirks as an add-on, would you guys be willing to pay $3 for it?

Oh man this app looks so good. I'll have to remember this app for later.

One thing I've noticed, is that occasionally after losing and regaining connection, the chumhandle will change to 'dcl10'. The color will stay the same, but I have to retype my chumhandle in the box. I can't necessarily reproduce it every time disconnects happen, though.
Also, I've found that the chumhandle will sometimes randomly set itself as 'pcd101'. Not sure what's up with that.

pseudoProgrammer I was wondering if you would be willing to help me with developing the iphone version I have the money for a developer licence and i was wondering if you wanted to collaborate to make the app

Unfortunately I have no experience with iOS development, objective-C, nor do I have any of the hardware necessary to test or even begin developing for iOS. I'll gladly answer any questions that I'm able to, but lacking experience on the platform and given my attempt to drum up money for dev tools was a colossal flop, I doubt I can help much.

Best of luck, though -- I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Um, I think I just found a bug. I try to enter a text heart and it doesn't show up, and deletes everything in my message past that point as well.

    Are you using version 1.18?

Re: Chumdroid -- Pesterchum for Android

I was in a conversation with another person, and they used a /me command. However, when it was used, it used my chumhandle as the name of the person that the action happened to, rather than the other person. The other person saw it used with their chumhandle, though.

Apparently, yes I am. I just downloaded it off the Android Market.

I'll take a look at both of those.

This might seem like a stupid question, but... How do I add chums? When I go to my chumroll all I get is a black screen. Also how do I open a memo/join a hidden memo?

Okayokayokay guys I'm sorry I meant to answer this question sooner but I didn't

When you first go to your Chumroll, the screen is black, yes. That's correct. You have to press the menu button while on that black screen. There /should/ be the option to add chums then. If not you did something wrong most likely :p

And to enter a hidden memo, just go to the create a new memo option and type in the memo name, just like in the regular pesterchum . c:

Re: Chumdroid -- Pesterchum for Android

So, I was trying to add a quirk, and it didn't show up properly. It was supposed to be the long s character, similar to lowercase f, but not quite. I could paste it in the bit as replacing the s, but it would just give a black diamond with a question mark in the center instead of the desired character. The person I was pestering also saw the same diamond with question mark bit.
How would I go about using a character like this that I can't type normally?

Edit: I downloaded a Character Map application and copypasta'd the character from there, and that worked.
Edit (x2 combo!): Until this morning, when it didn't. Hmm. I can paste it into the line for chatting, but putting it in as a quirk makes it the diamond with a question mark again.

    Worth noting:

This application eat battery since there's nearly constant communication going on in the background (a la the #pesterchum room), causing the cell radio to be left on nearly constantly while the application is running. Leaving passive aggressive reviews on the app isn't going to change anything.

    Love,

Question: Is there a way to tell Chumdroid to ignore your quirk on /me statements? It made a kinda awkward 'glitch' in chat because my quirk is a prefix "/say ", so it looked like my character was narrating her actions.

Since I may be using a < to preface my statements, I had to figure this out, too. I find that disabling quirks, posting whatever I'm /me-ing, then turning the quirks back on works well enough.

Oh. ... so that's why I'm having trouble. On a similar note it's kinda annoying leaving it open in the hopes to be pestered, only to find numbers have been added to your name since the phone went to sleep. :[ I guess I'll just have to holler in other places for pestering and start it manually.

Also is lower() unsupported? Because I can't get my lowercase quirk to work, even when I finally managed to get the backslash by changing the keyboard setting. I suppose I can leave it, given the quirk is due to inability to use a keyboard. My HTC Wildfire automatically capitalises things.

But outside that, this is why I got an android phone. ... outside wishing to avoid Apple.

I started to add a test playground but got bored with working on it before getting it to do anything.

I love this, but sadly, It doesn't work on my phone. I can't access my chumroll and add anyone, and I can't access quirks.

I have pesterchum on my laptop, and I'm trying to access my chumhandle, and it keeps rejecting it and changing it to chumdroid.

    Am I missing something?

Okay, check first: are you logged into the handle on your laptop when you try to change it on your phone?

What handle are you attempting to use?
