    Fan sightings!

I just thought it'd be interesting to see if anyone has spotted a stranger wearing any kind of HS apparel around the World.

I happened to see a dude in a Libra T-shirt at the Copenhagen Sakura Festival last weekend but he dissapeared in the crowd before I could make a smart-alecky comment about how awesome it is to see a fan in the wild.

I'm just jealous man, really :<

So how about the rest of you?

    Re: Fan sightings!

I get saddened when I explain what Homestuck is to everyone around me.
    Them: What is Homestuck?
Me: Oh it's this really cool and funny webcomic.
    Them: What's a webcomic?
    Me:

I'm pretty much the only person in my neighbourhood who reads Homestuck. :c

I haven't seen anyone with a fanshirt yet, but I spent Free Comic Book Day walking around in my Terezi shirt hoping someone would notice and approach me. Nobody did.

Ah well. Going to a con at the end of the month, hopefully someone there will be a fan

There's a kid I see in the dining hall from time to time wearing a Terezi shirt. We've talked about Homestuck a few times. Other than that, the only person I know in real life that reads it lives far away from me.

There is a guy I see at UMBC (imagine that! if you didn't know, we have a very high concentration of Homestuck fans) and he has a Dave tee. I've seen him maybe twice, and I'm always like "DUDE YOUR SHIRT."

Not exactly a sighting but a fail to be sighted... I thought someone might notice I was a HS fan wearing my Nepeta shirt around my college (I have Vriska and Aradia too, but I didn't want to risk confusing uninitiated classmates by appearing in varying zodiac symbols; Leo is mine, too, so... xD). I was saddened to find that people were unable to even identify that it was a zodiac symbol. Three people actually had to ask what it was.

    Re: Fan sightings!

Wearing the Karkat shirt has caused a number of people to ask me why my shirt said "69" on it. One dude was kinda close and asked "Is that a 69 or is it a Pisces symbol?"
i was like "close, it's actually for cancer, the pisces one looks like- *does a hand motion reminiscent of )("
Other than that, i haven't randomly met anyone, though i have met people irl through the forum!

I wish I had a Karkat shirt, because I would seriously wear that all the time... except for washing it and stuff... plus it would be fitting since he's my patron troll and all.

...we want to talk to people who have similar interests as us? What's so creepy about that?

Also, I could have sworn we already had a topic close enough to this one to qualify in the Comic Discussion forum.

    Re: Fan sightings!

Huh. I wouldn't have thought of it that way. When you're into things that are pretty unknown outside of the internet, it feels good to meet people who have common interests. That's what makes cons fun, for example. When someone's wearing a licensed t-shirt for a thing, that's usually a pretty good indicator of an interest in that thing. While I'm not peering intensely into crowds scouring for anyone who might remotely look like they like HS, if I happened to see somebody wearing a shirt, I'd probably be like, "Hey, cool!" and possibly compliment them on it. As long as you're not, like, following that person around/staring creepily/giving them unwanted attention, I fail to see what's wrong with it. I've been on the receiving end in similar situations where people struck conversations up with me based on something obscure and fandom-y which I was wearing, and it was nothing but good times all around.

I wouldn't say this phenomena is particularly exclusive for Homestuck fans. A lot of people wear brand t-shirts with their favourite things, I know quite a few who do it for attracting alike-thinkers/fans at parties or whatever. Stalking is such an ugly word :/

Since there are so few in my area who know what HS is even that was exactly what I was going for with this, thanks for putting it so well Marionette.

    Re: Fan sightings!

I got into Homestuck like 2 weeks ago or something and I immediately knew I would never, ever, EVER somehow find a Homestuck fan here in Australia (cause there's like NOTHING here). But 3 days ago, I find some guy dressed up as Gamzee. Just like, wandering around the streets. He had the shirt, pants, hair (which was actually his natural hair), horns and even a horn!

Usually I'm not one for just walking up to a random stranger and all but I figured if I didn't I would NEVER see this dude again. So, I go over and I'm all like 'hey gamzee, what are the chance2 of thii2 happeniing, blah blah blah, you got a 2pare liight?'. Being the big Thollukth fan that I am and stuff. This dude was totally happy with it, starts talking back in all his Gamzee-ness... But we quickly stopped and then had like a normal-ish conversation.

There's some convention (Supernova) happening next month and the Gamzee said he was gunna be there as well as like half the other trolls. We exchanged msn thingies and agreed we should meet up there. So, it's gunna be me in my Bleach Shinnigami Costume walking round with a group of trolls. Epic

Oh, and I ended up being late for work but it was SO WORTH IT!

Man, its weird to hear stories about people who come from small towns not knowing other people into stuff they like.

Like I am pretty much drowning in exactly the sort of fans you don't really want to know existed. The kind that make you embarassed to be out in public with them. #fandomselfhate #imtheproblem

    Re: Fan sightings!

I'm pretty sure if you buy a shirt you have at least a little intention of letting other people know you enjoy what's on it. After all, if we didn't care what people thought about what we wore we'd all be in t shirts and sweat pants.

EDIT: My brother introduced me to homestuck and at least 10+ of his friends follow it. I have at least two IRL friends who read homestuck, but one of them I introduced it too. I haven't seen anyone with homestuck apparel so I don't know who else in my school follows it, but I assume at least a few more people.

Lol I would write something more to you in Swedish but I'm sitting at a Danish keyboard so it'd look derp... but it'd be rude to the forum anyway.
also, JEEZ lol what is it with swedes and Canada, I've had four friends move over there already... though they were also Hungarian. Hmmm.
