It was a dark and stormy night; th-
“Grandpa, we’ve heard this a million times.”
“Ha ha ha, can’t we just listen one more time, it is my favorite story, and you know your grandpa is getting on in his years.”
The small child reluctantly agreed to the whim of the older weathered man. As he continued the tale, his granddaughter fell asleep. The man left her tucked in and with a kiss he left. He retreated to his own room, his own bed, and he too fell asleep.
However, his sleep was a little more permanent.
The next morning there was an endless ruckus, the household was in chaos, the owner of the Grand Adianas Estate had perished.
Daniel Solium Adainas was dead.
A grand inventor, scientist, and altruist, his creations were mainly used to help those in need. He was very wealthy, but he used most of that money to fund inventions and for charity. Most who met him said they never met a nicer man, although he was a little bit eccentric and a bit of a prankster. Those closer to him could forget the day that he had used some colored pencils and a scooter motor to "spruce up that drab china" or when he had taken all of the forks in the Grandel Hotel to make himself a suit of armor to fight a European Prince in.
News of the death of the great inventor spread, and many rushed into the area for the funeral of the greatest scientist of their time. Rushing in from all across the globe were scientists, doctors, clowns, students, fathers with too much time on their hands, and many, many, more all here to see the man who inspired them all. They expected a solemn experience and hoped to hear a final message.
So when the guests faced a simple scroll in lieu of any chairs, coffins, or priests, they were very surprised.
You see, while they knew of his altruistic donations, and his creative inventions, not many knew of Daniel’s quirks. The old man had a penchant for the exciting, entangling, and most of all, eccentric.
The flyer read the following.
The various admirers stared at the flyer, and then each other.
Some ran away, others just stood there.
But a few brave souls walked forward through the door, ready to face what would surely be one of, if not the most pivotal moment of their lives.
I welcome you to Inheritance. A competition of inventors to see who among you is worthy of inheriting the Manor that the late Daniel Adainas used for his many glorious inventions.
The game will include ten (10) players, grouped in to two (2) man mason teams. There is no limit to communication, as long as I receive all of it. During the day to the evening, you will be pitted in individual competitions meant to test out our ideological values and your wits. In addition, you will use this time to solve various puzzles left by the servants in order to receive extra items for the night phase. As the sun goes down, each of the teams will retreat into one of the first floors main rooms in order to create some magnificent item of most likely death. The item will receive stats of some sort, with chances of success being decided by creativity, accuracy to theme, and how possible it is. In the middle of the night you will use these items against the other players. Leaving traps in the house, sabotaging other’s inventions, and incapacitation up to mild bodily harm is allowed. The final team that remains will then be judged by the heiress of the Estate in one final battle to see which of the two is worthy of inheriting the Ariela Manor.
If you wish to join you must fill out this form. Which players are chosen will be based on how interesting and at-least-semi-believable he or she is. This is not first come, first serve.
Name: Self Explanatory Description: What he looks like, how he acts, that kind of stuff Associated Color:Like, if I need to make your character talk I guess. Biography: Be creative and explain who this person is, why he is here, and what he will do to win.
Later, when the ten are chosen, you will send me five (5) items that adhere to a common theme. Any five items at all. They will be your initial inventory and be how you create your inventions at night. They must be believable to be held and keep in mind that lethal items cannot be used lethally or to destroy the Estate.
You will then be randomly grouped with another player and then randomly assigned to a room with its own theme and ten (10) items waiting for you.
After you two get acquainted, you will begin the first event and then proceed to eliminate and outdo each other all for the chance of inheriting the workshop of the greatest inventor of your time.
So, who will rise up and compete for this Inheritance?
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Okay, just FYI
This post will be used for GAME DETAILS and FACTS and RESOURCES
BUT FOR NOW
It is to tell you that this would not be possible without Wheat's Tweet-town RandaMasonVentors and the continuing deachat conversation we had.
And also to tell you that this game will start later, next month, whenever Waterworks dies from inactivity.
INVENTOR MAFIA???
No, this will not be a game of mafia, although it did take inspiration from two roles in Wheeeeeeathin's Tweet-Town mafia. As said above, there are 5 teams of 2 players, each with a combined total of 20 items at the beginning of the game. There will be two phases, a public phase, which will involve interaction with characters in the mansion, either controlled by me or by people who are not one of the competing 10. During the "day" phase, you are allowed to talk to each other(both publicly and privately), try to find the mason teams, and basically explore the events brought on by the day, whatever they may be. (One plan is for the mafia to come in and try to take the mansion) After the day's events are done, we will enter the "night" or inventing stage. Unless an event facilitates this, you will all be in one of the bottom 5 rooms with your mason, locked in for the "night," inventing with the 20 items you have. At this stage, you can only communicate with your partner, unless you make something to fix that. Inventions will be able to do many things, but knocking people out of the game from the get go is not really the best option. All inventions will have statistics. These stats will be determined by the creativity and item chemistry presented. With this cycle of item gathering, inventing, and incapacitating, you will knock each other out of the chance to earn the inheritance.
The final team will have to creatively out-do each other and technically me in order to be THE FINAL WINNER.
GAME SUMMARY
A bunch of inventors go loose on a mansion to create insane stuff to beat the tar out of each other in ridiculous and over the top ways. Winner gets a mansion.
GAME FACTS
Five teams of two, for a total of ten players.
Daytime will be short and mainly just to do whatever the butler tells you for items.
Private Communications between individual players who are not aligned is perfectly fine, as long I get transcripts. (This means IRC logs and copies of PM's, my inbox is too full for a bunch of CC's :< you can also make a QT if you want to.)
Individual Teams get their own QT's.
You can also talk to some NPC's who I will introduce when it starts .
I will also allow people who didn't get in to join in the shenanigans one way or another.
Final team will have one final creativity battel.
The mantra of the game will be, "Creativity is key" follow it.

This is an excellent idea. I AM INTERESTED or whatever. Just let me read it all over again to make sure I'm not missing anything, and I'll throw together a character sheet.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Aaaand here we go.
Name: The Fantastic Lorenzo
Description: Dresses like a magician, you know, top hat, cape, the works. Also has a DEVIOUS MOUSTACHE.
Associated Color: Purple
Biography: The Fantastic Lorenzo is a purveyor of mystical marvels (aka inventions). He is MOSTLY aware that magic isn't real, and that everything he does is through science, but not entirely. In fact, he would likely kill someone before admitting that magic doesn't exist. He comes to the Ariela Manor, knowing full well that Daniel Adainas is one of the greatest wizards inventors there ever was, and plans to plunder the estate and it’s labs for the benefit of his craft.
man in his 30's. Has a neatly kept mustache and hair. Wears sunglasses, civilian clothes, and a labcoat. His eyes are green if you are wondering.
FULL FRONTAL SHOT:
Color: Green is the key!
Biography:
Once a upon a reality, there was the Hindsights, a reowned, upper-middle-class family renowned for their noteworthy skill in application and research. Although many members of these were renowned for their noteworthy contributions to the science field, there is a few who are not.
Henry Hindsight was one of them.
Don't get this wrong. Mr. Hindsight was a brilliant scientist, and he did know how to work things out and did made some progress in research. Unfortunately, he had two fatal flaws. One, he never thought things ahead. As his colleagues smirked, "He has no hindsight." Consequentially, his inventions often failed in his hands because he often made risky leaps in logic or just forget to take other considerations to other facts like cost or realiabity.
Two, Hindsight was a very proud man. No matter how many times his work failed, he found some reason (or dare I say, nerve) to keep working on his work. For him, it is almost like a drug to him. The obsession was so strong that he spent most of his time "perfecting" these failures. As a result, he often neglected the needs and concerns of his family.
In the end, the fatal flaws did Hindsight's life in. Government declined to give grants to him. Assistants left him for other more reasonable researchers. Fund-less and friendless, Hindsight yet again worked obsessively on his grand failures, splurging his family savings in the process. Against his wife's protests, he even used his son as the assistant for these Sisyphean tasks.
When Hindsight died, what he left was failed inventions, a cold, distant family impoverished by his ridiculous endeavors. The Hindsight Family's reputation was tarnished, all destroyed by a single man.
However, this is not Henry Hindsight's story.
This is his son's.
Enter Henry Hindsight Junior, son of Henry Hindsight Senior. Although his inventions were fruitless, his father felt the need to not only carry the family legacy, but also his own legacy. Thus, when his first offspring was brought into the world, he named his newborn oh-so-vicariously and selfishly.
Not surprisingly, Junior hated his own name, hated it for a large variety of reasons. The strongest being the name was loaded with a certain meaning. That meaning being that is father viewed saw his son as a vessel to success. At least, that was Junior thought. No wonder when his father died, he decided to change his name to something a little more distant (after the founder of the Hindsight family), Rankine Coriolis Hindsight), away from the family, but most importantly his father.
All his life he tries his hardest to be everything his father was not. Independent, sensible, practical. As of now, he is succeeding. Although the deep debt of his family still haunts him, he at least has a relatively comfortable income and his own apartment.
Why did he entered the tournament? Many may say money. After all, the Hindsight family is still in deep debt thanks to a particular man and the apartment bills need to be paid. For Rankine, this is an important reason, but not the most important one. He wants to prove to the world that he is not like his useless father and the previous legacy of the Hindsight family can exist in the modern times. In other words, to show the world once again that the Hindsight Family is worthy of respect in the people's eyes.
However, Rankine is not a one for personal glory. He just wants respect, especially respect for his own disgraced family, and does not underestimate others. As a result, he treats others with utmost respect and kindness. However, if the other guy decides to play dirty on him, Rankine would do the same on him. After all, if they are not going to play nice with him, Rankine might as well take off the gloves and return in kind.
Pre-competition, Rankine is a Researcher and Engineer of Thermodynamics. In other words, finding ways to use energy more effectively and whatnot. Quite fitting for a man who wants to be useful to the rest of the world. He is mainly interested in power conversion and retention of work without losing energy into heat. However for this competition, he could find ways...to help himself get an edge.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Sir Graham Stapleson
Description: Around 30 year old, dark hair with a streak of white, long Fu Manchu mustache, Safari Pith Helmet, Bowtie
Associated Color: DarkSlateGrey is a lovely shade of blue
Biography: "Sir" Graham hold no ranks of nobility. However, he is actually a famous robotician. And notorious for hunting them down with his trusty Elephant Hunting Gun on Safaris.
His one true goal is to achieve ACTUAL status of nobility. And for some reason, a Mansion seems like to be a good first step for it.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
I'm considering this but I have some questions. What is this game like? Is it like a mafia? Is it like survivor? Is it like a dungeon crawl? I'm not sure what I'd be signing up for.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Basically there is a day and a night in a very limited sense.
The day is basically plotting either in thread or privately amounts yourselves.
During this day there will be short challenges and puzzles left by the staff and the late Daniel Adainas in order to get an item.
This is where we get into the true purpose of the game.
At night, you and your team mate will use all of your items and mix them together into one creative thing.
This thing can basically do anything up to slightly wounding another player.
Laying traps in the manor, giving yourself a better chance of being able to complete events, knocking someone out for a day... just random things.
Success will be determined by creativity of the invention.
Upon creation, it will be given stats for success and failure, higher stats would go to more creative inventions.
By this cycle of item gathering, inventing, and incapacitating, you will knock each other out of the chance to earn the inheritance.
The final team will have to creatively out-do each other and technically me in order to be THE FINAL WINNER.
Also, just for kicks, I am going to make a list of obstacles and events that may occur, one of which I can assure you would be the mafia coming to the manor and trying to shoot the place up.(what, if anything, on the list actually happens in the game would be randomly determined)
Oh yea, I forgot to mention that there will be a lot of RNG usage during the game.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Gary "The Garbage Man" Marchuck
Description: Dirty gray jumpsuit, greased up brown hair, constant 5 o clock shadow. He acts erratic and not-well mannered. He's not mean, but he's the type to fart in the presence of a lady.
Associated Color: KARKAT GRAY
Biography: As a young boy Gary spent his time collecting objects off the floor and making incredible devices from them. He earned the name "The Garbage Man" because he would go around taking people's trash to make things with. As such, he is known most for his ability to create on the fly using the barest of materials. He's also a huge advocate for recycling. He joined this competition just to prove that one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Seyward Matthews
Description: A young boy about 13-14 years of age, wears a tweed coat over a vest and shirt, brown shorts, long-ish black socks, and black leather shoes. He is smug, arrogant, and condescending. He acts as if he is superior to nearly everyone he meets. Behaves sociopathically at times.
Associated Color:Brownish
Biography: Seyward is a child prodige, considered a genius for his age. He comes from a wealthy upbringing, and received only the best schooling and tutors growing up. However, when he grew to notice his gifted nature, he began to develop a superior attitude and large ego, which affected him with various social issues and disorders over time. The fact that he grew up in a fairly isolated envionment didn't help either. Seyward wants the mansion less for the estate, and more for the famed laboratory of Dr. Adainas, which is rumored to be filled with interesting theory and inventions, something that will surely keep his genius mind challenged and entertained. And if he has to fiddle with some inventions and screw over some other chumps to get what he wants, he's willing do it.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Lane Wassey, Senior Transport Engineer 1st Grade
Appearance: A tall man in his late 30's, with a bushy greying moustache and pointy beard. Has a large black fedora, an orange shirt and black bowtie, square-framed glasses, and a pair of orange workgloves. One of his ears is badly scarred and burnt from when he accidentally put a soldering iron behind it. He wears brown slacks, and will not often be seen without his trusty bicycle beside him. He can be quite shy at times, but is enthusiastic around other engineers.
Colour: Orange is very representative of him.
Biography: Born to a pair of high-up businesspeople, Lane was used to his parents often being away on long meetings or trips to other countries. Upon coming of age, he would often catch planes to follow his parents, so he could get more time with them. He was considered for a job after helping a small airline crew avoid crashing after their pilot had a heart attack - his time alone gave him lots of opportunity to study his interests. Once he was in the company, however, they found he was actually better on the mechanics side of the airline business than as a pilot. A series of revolutionary new plane designs maximizing comfort and efficiency got him into the senior position he is in today, and he still remains quite hands-on with his designing and work.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Renee Sullivan Description: A woman around 27 years old. Wears a white blouse, a long navy blue skirt and jacket, and black leather boots. Brown hair, black eyes, freckles, oval glasses. Presents a rather detached and observant manner. Places great importance on aesthetics. Color: Navy Blue Biography: She acts as the curator of a museum by profession. She accumulates information and objects constantly, as a compulsive hoarder who happens to have a job which encourages that. Her other interest is attempting to mimic the feats of the past via reverse engineering. She is in great need of proper real estate for her collection and inventions.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Zoe Moreau
Description: Woman in her early twenties. Long, dirty-blonde hair with knots in, and a sullen expression under a thick woollen cap under the hood of a dark red duffle coat. Under the coat, she's got a black hoodie, grey t-shirt, and a long red scarf. Too-big jeans held up with a belt, and ratty sneakers. Black fraying gloves with the fingers cut off. Green backpack full of food and other useful things.
Associated Color: Olivedrab?
Biography: Zoe ran away from home at age sixteen, and has lived on the streets ever since. She survives by selling valuables acquired through petty thievery - one regret she harbours after quitting school is no longer having science and workshop classes. Nowadays she pours that creative energy into finding ways of breaking, entering, and getting her hands on peoples' jewellery and antiques. She keeps her trained pet rat, Harrison, in her backpack or a duffle coat pocket - often with all manner of bits and bobs her keen eyes pick up.
Daniel Adainas was a man Zoe had heard of in passing, but she chiefly went to the funeral to see what she could loot from the estate. The competition sounded like too good an opportunity to pass up, so Zoe surreptitiously stashed the antique pocketwatch away and joined the crowd.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Prof. Damien Witherwood Description: A bitter old man in his late 120's, though he has the strength and appearance of a 70 year old. Usually irritable, but seems to be a fairly good mood today. Wears glasses and walks with a cane. (Doesn't need the cane, just likes hitting people) Carries a heavy metal box on his back with flashing lights and dozens of hidden compartments, mostly containing snack foods or narcotics. Color: Dark red Biography: Today is a good day for Damien Witherwood. His bitter lifelong rival Daniel Adainas has finally kicked the bucket. Well, one of his rivals at least. He has a tendency to declare rivalries with a lot of people. His ex-wife, the jury members in his extortion case, the guy who cut in line in front of him at the DMV, the country of Madagascar, Frankie Muniz, the list goes on and on.
His personal grudge against Adainas, however, has to do with a very humiliating story involving several drunk college kids, a rabid dog, and some ladies undergarments. All in all, he ended up with 2 broken limbs, a fairly large medical bill, and a misdemeanor for public indecency. Actually, he never really even found out which students were involved, he just picked the student at the top of his roster and assumed it was him.
And now, years later, his rival is finally dead. He had planned on simply showing up to the funeral and mocking the corpse in front of it's family, like he usually does, but this contest opens up all sorts of possibilities. Maybe he could use the lab to find a way to defeat death itself! (Or at least find a better way to do it then killing all those clones and carrying their essence around everywhere in this stupid metal box.) On the other hand, he could always just burn the place to the ground. He'll cross that bridge when he comes to it. For now, he's got a contest to win, a legacy to tarnish, and plenty of dreams to crush.

His skin is tanned, eyes are green, nose is normal, ears stick out a bit from beneath his hair, and he’s almost always wearing a grin.
*Associated Color: Red.

Since then he has been taking on odd jobs to take care of his younger siblings. He heard about the competition, and figured it was his chance. He plans to enter the tournament with a mind to win, but he has a set of codes. He will not overly harm a woman, he will not attempt to kill someone, and he will try to help his companion as much as possible until the end, where there shall be no mercy.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Uhm, one more thing, two people PM'd me their character profiles, I would prefer it if you two posted it here, so that I can get to them all easily.
I don't want to post them here in case they could reveal the items/style of inventioning that might be used.
So Niall and Tea, just remove stuff that could reveal those SERKET things and post em here :T
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Vincent Richter Description: 43 year old eurasian man, tall and lanky who is very fast on his feet. Wears a black scientist coat with an emblazoned electric blue N on the right collar, plain white shirt underneath the coat, slightly tattered grey jeans. Short, raven black hair with hazel eyes, large nose, bushy eyebrows. The only item that he constantly carries with him is a large rubix cube that remains his greatest creation. Associated Color: Electric Blue Biography: For at least 10 years, Vincent has been a lonely wanderer, appearing and disappearing in a variety of different worlds. He has yet to tell a single soul his life story, for a variety of reasons; the main one being that no one would believe him. Recently he entered one of the many alternative versions of Earth, but this was one was very strange. On the surface it was just like home, except that all over the place a variety of strange and often dangerous contests would take place. The most recent one that ended took part in a seemingly normal neighborhood that loved to use twitter. Another one that was about to start up took place on an island with rules similar to a show he once watched as a child.
Attending the funeral to pay respects to a man who would have shared his interests in science and inventions, the revelations in the flyer caught Vincent's interest. Perhaps he has finally found a place he could call home, start a family and settle down. Of course, he would try to utilize the resources in that manor, but would use it to teach. He would make sure his son/daughter would not repeat the same mistakes he made and abuse the power of science. But none of that is set in stone. He has to compete first. At the very least, if he forms a good bond with his partner, he might just tell them his story.
Re: Inheritance - A Mansion Mason-Inventor Adventure
Name: Hans Mouseman
Description: Hans is a man in his 60ties, His skin is pale and he is bony thin. His hair is Black and slicked back with a few gray hairs but it has been styled like business. He wears a dark three part suit with a white shirt in it. He also wears a dark blue tie with an Logo on it, The logo consists of a circle being made within an other circle. Signs of stress, age and sickness can be seen on his face. He has a sturdy briefcase with stuff in it
Associated Color: Bordeaux #800000
Biography: Hans had the honor of being chosen to be the CEO for a upstarting laboratory complex when he was younger, The fact that he had amassed a small fortune with the selling of bathroom sinks to the military helped for abit, and soon the company had grown and prospered. However due to inexperience in science and blatant disregard of safety of the experiments and products he delivered the company soon declined in fortune struggling to compete with the rest.
Their main flaw in the market was however their marketing, Most of their products could have great potential if used in the right context, However to miss-marketing (The results weren't pretty) or just using Product A to test Product B they soon reached the point that they hired hobo's of the streets for text subjects or using employees. However Hans kept an optimistic facade up, Believing in his own little world even now.
The main reason for him to try and get the mansion is to fuel his own little delirium and use the various innovations for his own tests and rub it in the face of his competition....also did we mention he is a little odd?
