Aussie Meetup/Convention Thread

So for 6-months-ish next year, I am (hopefully) transportalizing from London and becoming a Melbournian. My boyfriend and I are hopefully cosplaying as Mom and Dad to our Ayacon this August, and god dammit I will captchalogue that shit and bring it across the ocean with us. From looking at the con dates for this year, I'm assuming next year we'll be able to go to Animania, Supernova, and possssibly Manifest if I can convince my cousin to let us bunk with her for a couple of weeks extra.

Homestuck is ridiculously popular among cosplayers here, so I was worried it would not get a suitable amount of love BUT YOU GUYS we shall (hopefully) be there to represent.

ok so. yeah, supanova it was pretty fun. and hot. and crowded. so many fucking people. but whatever. i saw some cool cosplays and stuff.

i was there dressed as scott pilgrim as i mentioned i would be, and i actually crossed paths with sharkjumper, and later anonymoose who was hanging out with a guy dressed as karkat and they were playing ds together or something. but i didn't actually introduce myself because i was too shy i mean busy looking around at stuff obviously. and in retrospect i'm annoyed with myself for not doing so.

i did however briefly stop them and ask for photos as an anonymous passing homestuck fan.

Also, the dude Karkat is one of my best friends, hehehe. I'm planning to be either Equius, Snowman or Feferi for November. (My friend will probably be Nepeta, Jack Noir, or Eridan). It's most likely we'll be Feferi and Eridan, though!

I can only assume Anonymoose and SharkJumper are also known by the names Dave and Camilla. In which case I met them in a pretty curious episode on Saturday.

I was working at K-Mart on the door when two people came in dressed as Karkat and Terezi and I went up to them on my tea break. I was like, "so, are you guys supposed to be Karkat and Terezi?" and they were like, "yeah, we were just on our way to Supernova". Completely forgot it was this weekend.

I say, "do you know who I am?"
"...the K-Mart Guy?"
"Nope, I'm AbortedSlunk from the Art Team."
"...oh! Erm... sorry, we haven't heard of it."
"Well, I contribute to the comic. You remember that walkaround pixelart game update with the trolls? I was the lead pixel artist on that!"

So yeah, hello to Dave and Camilla, hope you guys had fun and I wish I coulda been there and not working at K-Mart. But when needs must! It certainly was weird seeing two Homestuck trolls walk in right the fuck out of nowhere in a city where virtually no one knows what Homestuck is.

Speaking of singing at Supernova, my friends and I sung the Time Warp with a Tenth Doctor, a Time Lord, Donna Noble and two Eleventh Doctors. With me as Dave Strider in the photo, it was a Time Traveller 6x combo. Will post the photo ASAP.

Uhm, hello thread! I was at Supanova Brisbane over the weekend as a volunteer, and I am proud to say I saw everyone who has posted here so far!

If you were wearing anything Homestuck related and you were in the buying-tickets line I was more than likely the annoying one with the megaphone and the wrap around her head giving you a high-five. Or likely finding you and nerding out like a ballistic motherfucker.

On Sunday though I dressed as Aradia per encouragement from some of the others, and I have a few photos to contribute as well:

This lovely girl again! It was a miracle finding her again on saturday and she had such a good costume, her horns were really well done

The wind kept blowing my fringe in my face, but this is when i finally decided to change and join everyone else for photos :>

The excitement before we took this was amazing

The black-suited Dave here actually came with a Gamzee as well who we were lucky enough to meet, but she was out of costume. Her horns were amazing though and she even approached us all by honking her horn!

Oh! Also I got told by a few of the supervisors in the volunteer area that the next Supanova is apparently going to be in Brisbane again! They expressed some grief over the RNA shwogrounds venue (apparently it is inconvenient to maintain, and it is getting harder and harder to get everyone in with the growing numbers) but I think it is correct in that the Gold Coast one is going to be next year.

In unrelated news, I have been inspired by everyone this past weekend and I am thinking of putting together a Rose costume for the Animania event at the end of this month. I am really looking forward to seeing all the great folks I met today, including the Gamzee and Dave that we hassled into coming back (thanks so much for doing that guys it was GREAT to meet you!)

Also you have no idea how happy I am to see that someone recognized me as Aradia while I was working!!!! SQUEE!

Oh my god so many of you, this is exciting as hell sdfjksdgag. We definitely have to do a meetup later, even if it's not at a con! I'd probably do Dave again since I am about as good with body paint as a duck with a handgun, but nevertheless! This fine Dave will be there again, ready to be cool.

And probably actually with a wig this time.

Gog dammit, I'm so pissed I couldn't go Sunday! I only just got a job, though, so my first pay doesn't come through until Wednesday and I have like $2 to live on until then, meep! But you can bet I'll be there! I have three costumes lined up for next nova already, MSPA I was thinking Sunday, but I can swap that around depending on what everyone wants to do. And I think definately be either Feferi or Snowman, maaaaaybe Equius for lulz, depending on what I am able to do. If all else fails, Kanaya, but I think Feferi looks most likely.

I don't know how to upload to Youtube but I'm gonna go give it a try now. It's a 45 second video and I don't actually have it myself, I just reposted it on my Facebook when my friend posted it there.

But yes, I am so up for a meetup! Gog knows, I need to get out of the house more and go to places that aren't university or work.

Going as Terezi is ALWAYS a good decision. I know I'll be there! Hopefully now it's in a bigger venue we can get a meetup going for a real photoshoot at that one?

Be Terezi! It'll be fun! Pretty simple cosplay to do, too.

I would do Snowman, but I firstly need a morph suit. And then to consider either Felt suit, or Three In The Morning dress. But I'm considering it! My friend's willing to be Jack Noir, too...hmmmm.

Dammit, now I want to go to Animania, but what do I wear? Maybe I can get a Kanaya cosplay done by then...

Edit: Challenge to be Snowman by Animania? ACCEPTED. As long as I can get a morph suit by then, I'm doing it. I'm MAKING THIS HAPPEN.
Except morph suits are like, $85...Snowman may have to wait. Looks like I'mma do Kanaya or Vriska.
