Also, I'm thinking of having Nepeta stick with Karkat. Y'see, I've been working on the overall layout of New Alternia through the years and I may produce maps later, but the important bit is that, in the beginning at least, there are the following discrete buildings:

* Meeting hall/auditorium
* The old terminal room (Aradia's haunt as described in "Nevada Cubs")
* Hivestem Alpha (Karkat, Terezi, Shula, Nepeta, Felix, Gamzee, Carmen)
* Hivestem Beta (Feferi, Sollux, the Twins, Eridan, Equius) -- overlaps Peixes Lake, neighbors Equius' workshop
* Hivestem Delta (Vriska, Ferris, Kanaya, Tavros)
* Nitram Organics
* Equius' workshop
* Guest quarters

Later on, more stems would be added, and proper housing for individual families.

One question that the above does not answer is, who is Carmen Makara's mother? One obvious but not necessarily correct answer is Nepeta, since she and Gamzee practically live together... hmmm...

Edit: regarding Ferris being a Secret Coppola, that would open the door for some strange incident that could be mentioned about Nic dropping a very good movie role because it had to be spiders... I'm like, this close to canonizing it.

Nepeta as Carmen's mother seems to be the most likely choice. I can't actually think of anything that would work that well otherwise.

After her son Felix had been born, Nepeta found this strange new method of reproduction that the Chums had introduced into the colony much more entertaining than the usual Alternian one. And to Nepeta, entertainment was key. Now, Nepeta had moved into Hivestem Alpha to be closer to her son's father, but mostly because Karkat and Terezi were fun to be around with. She wasn't sure why Gamzee had chosen to live in Alpha, but it was probably for similar reasons. The Aquatics had taken residence in Hivestem Beta, obviously because half of it was built into Peixes Lake, and Feferi had brought poor Sollux along. Nepeta's moirail Equius felt that would be the best place for him as well despite the yellowblood's presence.

Stupid dumb Equius breaking her arm like that.

But still, this "sex" thing felt great, and Nepeta felt like she'd want to give it another go.

"Fuck no. I made an exception for you just once. You know how I feel about messing 'round behind Terezi's back, even if you asked her first."

"But Karkitty, I don't neces... necessariliry --"

"Necessarily."

"-- want another cub out of it! I just thought it felt nice!"

"Trust me, you're not the only one to think that, Nepeta. Terezi shares the sentiment and I can't disagree. It's just, there's not enough Vantas to go around, plain 'n' simple."

"Then what do I do?"

"I dunno. Play by yourself?"

"Tried that", Nepeta admitted. "It's nice, but it's better together."

Karkat could not help imagining Nepeta going at it solo. It flustered him greatly, and he felt he had to get rid of the girl as quickly as possible.

"Look, it's just... do what you do best, y'know? Hunt around."

Right at that moment, Gamzee wandered in. This was ofcourse completely unexpected... to anyone who had not been reading the Population background materials.

"Hunt around for what my most crabby motherfucker?"

"Oh hey Gamzee. Wanna help me ditch the catgirl?"

"Now what would you wanna go up 'n do that for, Karkat? She's not that annoying. Ain't ya Nepeta?"

Nepeta did not answer. She was too busy weighing her options; an impressive feat for her.

"Hey, didya hear me, my feral furry friend?"

"I heard you!" Nepeta blurted out. "It's just that I was wondering if you would be my..."

Gamzee and Karkat were somewhat surprised at the speed Nepeta was speaking at. She seemed to be slowing down already, so neither troll said anything.

"...my, ehm... my..."

As Nepeta slowly turned green on the cheeks, Gamzee glanced aside towards his little bro.

"What's she talkin' 'bout, brah?" he asked while Nepeta continued stammering.

"I, eh, think she wants you to fuck her, dude."

"Honk honk honk, motherfucker", Gamzee cracked. "From what I up 'n heard, that can only be an improvement since last time someone went up 'n told me that!"

Nepeta had stopped trying to say "matesprit" at the third honk and looked about ready to explode in squee.

Karkat had the eery feeling he had missed something he should be happy to not know about.

Shula grumbled as she let her mother fidget with her clothes.

"I told you, Agent Fischer doesn't trust Karkles' educational skills", Terezi retorted. "Besides, it's just for one day, hon."

"Pappa's educashonal skills are fiiine~"

The moment Karkat had driven away after dropping the kids off, intrigued humans came out of the woodwork. One of the jockier boys stepped forward.

"Yo."

Shula and Carmen remained silent. Carmen adjusted the brim of her sun hat.

"I said yo."

The girls had only heard four words from this human's chute and already they didn't like him. Chances were the feeling was mutual.

"I'm Todd. I run this place."

Carmen raised an eyebrow at that claim.

"I thought the school board did."

"That's not the same, little miss snarky. I run this place."

"Why am I not impressed? Shu, are you impressed?"

"Not exactly. This guy makes uncle Dave look absolutely Arctic."

Todd was slightly taken aback.

"What does that even mean!?"

"Do you think you're cool... Todd?"

"I don't. I am."

"That's just it, isn't it?"

"What are you ladies babbling about?"

Shula and Carmen exchanged glances.

"Car, I think Mr. Todd here may have some... unresolved issues."

"I hear ya. This is the 'overcompensating' kind of cool isn't it?"

"Uncle Dave taught you that?"

"Yep."

Todd was left standing as the troll girls analyzed him. He didn't like where this was going.

"Well I suppose uncle Dave would know best."

"WHO THE FUCK IS UNCLE DAVE?" Todd interrupted.

"He's our uncle, daaah" the girls replied simultaneously.

"Where were we?"

"Issues. He has them."

"All of them?"

"Let's hope not. That'd be sad."

"Sooo sad."

Todd had the creeping sensation that the girls were starting to get to him. A single sweat broke.

"Hey Shu?"

"Yeah?"

"I'll bet he's gay."

"I'm surprised you even know that word, Car."

"I'M NOT-- I mean, I'm not gay, dammit", Todd retorted.

"And why wouldn't I know what 'gay' is, Shu? I mean, just because..."

"Hold that thought, Car. I think you got to him."

Todd looked positively un-cool. Ofcourse, the main problem was that he actually was gay, and he had some daddy issues because of it. The coolguy façade was a somewhat transparent attempt to mask it.

"So hey Todd, how old are you?"

"Oh my gog Car you are not going there!"

"I... I'm fifteen."

"You ever kissed somebody?"

"...Yeah."

"What was his name?"

"J-wait -- WHY YOU!"

"I bet you'd look good in some nice leather pants."
