Misthah Ivan, sir! What program do I use to record with? ;_;
Let me help you! I already have all this great info thanks to my good friend Sapphire!
Audacity (Free): Yes, it's a free program. You can download it here. A very easy to use program, but it has its limitations. If you plan on doing more than just recording (like mixing audio), I'd advise getting a different program.
Goldwave ($30-$40): Oh yeah, it costs money but it's not a bad program. I think the best part about this program (and why I choose it over Audacity) is its 'Noise Reduction' feature. Unlike Audacity, this one doesn't leave you with tinny feedback on your recordings. If you don't have a recording studio or a VERY GOOD preamp, you may need a program that has a good noise reduction tool. I say this because microphones tend to pick up other surrounding noises whether it be from your computer's fan, the airplane that just passed by, or your air conditioner. If you run into this problem, I'd go for Goldwave.
Adobe Audition 1.5-3.0 ($150-$350): I love this program. You can record and edit your sound files using Adobe Audition. The only thing I don't like about it is its Noise Reduction tool because it still leaves the noise behind your vocals. Adobe Audition has pretty neato default plugins that you can use to spice up your recordings. Just play around with what they've got and you'll eventually learn how to use everything. I use third-party plugins for the most part, but I still use the defaults from time to time.
Sapphire is the queen of all information!
Misthah Ivan, sir! How do I save my recordings in .mp3 format? ;_;

EDIT: so are you guys aware how hard it is to do a good Gamzee voice? I can't get it to sound right at all, congested or not. BUT I AM DETERMINED, DAMMIT.

I know I would never be able to do it. Ever. I would just keep cracking up.
Re: MSPA Voice Acting Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo!
Important voice acting information!
This thread is free for anyone to contribute. Many of us are involved in the Hivebent Radio Play as well, which has been cast and is being recorded, but you do NOT have to be involved in that to post in the VA thread by any means. (Go check it out though, it's fun stuff! And there may be ways you can get involved still if you're interested.)
If you want to get started with voice acting and are not sure where to begin, first you'll need programs and equipment. Most of us use Audacity and post our completed work as MP3 files on Tindeck. Both of these are free to use. If you're not sure what to start recording, choose a pesterlog you particularly enjoy by a character you think you might sound kind of like, or one you think you'd enjoy voicing. Every Saturday is Singing Saturday, when you can post yourself singing either a song straight, or rewritten as a parody with Homestuck characters (or other MSPA characters for that matter).
Have fun and welcome to the VA thread!

So uh. First post here and I just wanted to say that I love you guys! Fawn and her songs own my soul, seriously.
So I attempted to be Vriska with a few blunders ._. From one of her recent pesterlogs with John. I'll have a better mic next time I try anything.
Re: MSPA Voice Acting Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo!
Nice work Lyr.
Maybe you should slow down a bit, though.

I was trying to put my finger on it. But, yeah, like he said. End Paradox edit.

Just straight up sing a song with a voice!? I didn't know that was eligible.

Well, I think it's more fun to sing something MSPA related, but sometimes people do post things without rewriting them or singing them as a specific character. I think when it comes to this thread, when in doubt, is it fun? If so, go for it!

Re: MSPA Voice Acting Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo!
This is my first time changing the lyrics of a song for MSPA, so I'm sure it could be better. But anyways, I decided to make it Felt-themed. The numbers don't correspond to anyone specific, they're just there to show that a different character is singing that part. Also, the parts in brackets I figured could be optional since they're sort of randomly in [or in the case of the very last one, not in] the video.
Lyrics:
(1) Everybody wants to be a felt
(1) because a felt's the only felt
(1) that gives a good welt
(2) Everyone's pickin' up on that billiard feat
(2) 'cause everything else is obsolete
(2) Now a felt with a scorn
(2) makes you wish you weren't born
(1) with a single gaze
(2) and with a clock in the act
(2) he can set the time back
(1) to the exile days
(1) [cha cha ba dum bo day]
(2) I've seen some inky men who tried sharking
(1) but a felt's the only felt
(1) who knows how to sting
(3) who wants to stay for four suit play unfairly dealt
(1)(2) When everybody wants to be a felt
(1)(2) A felt with a scorn
(1)(2) makes you wish you weren't born
(1)(2) with a single gaze
(2) [Oh a rinky tinky tinky]
(1)(2) and with a clock in the act
(1)(2) he can set the time back
(1)(2) to the exile days
(4) [Oh a rinky tinky tinky]
(2)(4) Everybody wants to be a felt
(2)(4) because a felt's the only felt
(2)(4) that gives a good welt
(2)(4) While playin' pool you always rule the fine green pelt
(2)(4) cause everybody loves a dashin' felt
*MUSIC*
(All)
EVERYBODY EVERYBODY EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A FELT
EVERYBODY EVERYBODY EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A FELT
everybody everybody everybody wants to be a felt
everybody everybody everybody wants to [be a felt]
Re: MSPA Voice Acting Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo!
Okay I actually did it.
I recorded Sollux playing the part of BYB and getting overly interested in Romance.
What's funny is there were some very Sollux things to say in there.
So, with myself voicing Sollux & BYB providing the words, without further ado:
I fully expect at least one other Troll VA to record their response to this.
Re: MSPA Voice Acting Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo!
Well, I guess this is the first real recording of the new thread!
Anyway, Red Pen wrote a fantastic fic a couple of months back where something goes wrong and the kids get exiled back to Earth, and I thought I would take advantage of my shiny new microphone to record it with Ariana!
So here is the first part of Red Pen's "And We're Alive".

Certainly interesting to listen to.
Okay, more than interesting. I loved that little recording and by extension the fanfiction it's based off of. I couldn't pause it at all for the half hour it was running.

Squee! It's done! This was so much fun to record, you have no idea. I'm listening to the finished product right now. It's my first time recording a full fanfic.
I think we ought to link to the original fanfic, "And We're Alive", since Red Pen did such an amazing job with it. So brilliant!
We'll get busy on part 2 so you can find out how it ends. Or you could, you know, read it. :P Or wait till we record it because it'll be awesome! Either way!

I love that fic and I love this. Hearing them narrate each others sections was a really neat touch.
