Dead Guy > Quit being dead, the ninja girl seems to have calmed down now.
He's unconscious, not dead/playing dead.
I don't see how that affects brain's command at all. He's insinuating that the pirate is playing dead.
Sorry, I've got it in my head that X _ X means dead... whatever.
X _ X Guy > Do something.
Here's the funny part. I looked it up. It's both. Was about equally split between the genders as a SUPER popular name in the 1930's and earlier.
HUGE Update on this one.
Dead Guy: Quit being dead, the ninja girl seems to have calmed down now.
You do not know how to quit being the dead guy. Besides, you're only unconscious.
TLL: Get that drink. Develop crush on cute ninja girl.
You're not crushing on her. You were just ordered to make her feel comfortable around here. The boss wanted to talk to her, and you're just doing your job. Besides, ninjas and pirates go so poorly together. Your mother always warned you about ninja girls... Besides, she's not that cute...
SHIVER ME TIMBERS! THE ARTIST MADE HER CUTER WHILE YOU WEREN'T LOOKING!
Not that you have a crush. You're just a little warm. That's all.
Poor guy. He seems to have developed a crush on you. You can tell this with your Abnormal Hitinja Crush Senses... That, and common sense. You can't help feel sorry for him though...
...Because now he'll be ridiculously easy to manipulate to your ends.
>LS: Ask Laverne why they captured you.
You decide to use this golden opportunity to get some intel on your current situation. You can never have enough information. You ask Laverne why they kidnapped you if they were going to be so nice about it.
Laverne explains that they didn't kidnap you. They rescued you.
"You were making a scene in a local tavern last night. The Boss and Me were there for business. You were trying to capture some pirate for a bounty..."
"But you let down your guard and..."
"Took a mug of ale to the head."
"It knocked you out real good."
You wish he had skipped the part you already knew. It's a bit embarrassing.
"The Boss chased down their leader while I dealt with the crew."
"It was kinda boring."
"The Boss said to tie you up and take your hairpin so you wouldn't freak out when you woke up and kill everyone on the ship. He said he'd let you go after he explained the situation."
That explains a few things. Could be a trick though. So, it was that wimpy unconscious guy that saved you? That Pirate Captain must've been tired after taking you out if that guy could take him. Either that or...
He was holding back against you.
LS: Assess Team's Combat Capabilities
Well, looks like you've just a henchmen for a while. You decide to use your Hintinja Combat Assessment Skills to decide on your combat strategy.
As a Hitinja, you focus in precision strikes. A good number of your best attacks are based on sacrificing accuracy for quick power. You are also a master at parrying. This means that you can use your Precision - 2 for dodging for a round instead of Life for a decent chunk of stamina. This ability is called "Lord of Parries". Better than getting hit though. You can also sacrifice almost any chance of dodging by standing still and focusing your attack to give yourself hyper accuracy with your attacks. This ability is called "Breathe and Focus". You know a few ranged attacks as well, but it's not your forte. Unfortunately, since you left the school at a young age, you only had the chance to learn one advanced Hitinja technique, "Cost of Power". This allows you to go all or nothing on an attack by sacrificing as much accuracy as you want for a devastating damage increase. You also have some minor abilities to disguise your appearance or voice with illusions from your recent Feykinja training, and you know how to heal moderate wounds and target vital points after watching a target for a turn for more damage from your time with a Dr. Inja. There's also that one move your friend taught you from the Shoninja, but you don't like to use that.
Despite his idiocy. Laverne seems to be an accomplished Arrcrobat. You can't speak from watching his combat, but if the rumors are true, he has two of the Arrcrobats' advanced techniques, "One Man Double Team" and "Rolling Thunder". One Man Double Team allows Laverne to move so fast he appears to be in more than one place at once. He uses his agility to hit instead of his precision. Rolling Thunder, on the other hand, deals damage based on the distance he moves in a turn in one fluid motion. However, if this attack misses, it deals half the damage to Laverne. Considering his size, he can probably take it. He also seems to have a few Charrismatic Lord buffs and the ability to insult foes. The insults can come in handy with targets even you can't hit, and the inspiring buffs should be a boon to you in combat.
The Wanderer... You can't get a read on. He didn't fight back. So, you don't know what his deal is. He could be ANYTHING.
If it weren't for the fact that he's a pirate, and therefore, you want to ditch him the first chance you can, he'd be a pretty good teammate for you. You both have strong wills, which makes you strong against illusions and insults, and you both have decent abilities to avoid attacks when targeted by dumber enemies. You can also take on some pretty powerful foes with his Charrismatic commands backing you up. Unfortunately, despite the rumors, neither of you is good at taking out multiple people without tiring out yet. If the Kurosawa Corollary puts the enemies deep enough into incompetence, you can take out a hefty amount, but the last few will be a real challenge. Furthermore, another Hitinja like yourself or an equally accurate faction will have no problem hitting both of you.
So, probably best to stick with small numbers of targets with low precision scores.
TLL: Combat Assess Team's Capabilities
Still blushing from earlier, Laverne shoots his arm out a bit too fast and asks if you're done with your tea.
Idiot...
"You're awfully quiet..."
You make a mental note of the Ninja Girl's inability to take a hit. This is about the most you can assess of your team's capabilities.
What do you do next?
What do you guy's think of LS's new appearance. Decided to try something new.
Surely you can get back to the ship from here.
I'm going to give this next update a while because there's a few ways we can go from here depending on what gets suggested and which of the 2.5 characters it gets suggested for.
So why am I posting? Because I decided to try to see if I could mimic "Hero Mode" from Homestuck by removing the boundaries and fiddling with a couple of things and... well, this is what I got.
I found it kinda amusing and thought I'd share.
TLL: Help her back on the ship and apologize.
>LS: Drown.
Okay. Damn. I lied. Decided this was a better place to get a large number of commands since this is a lot more open-ended.
>LS: Drown.
So, is this how it ends? Your 18th Birthday. You die on your 18th birthday by drowning after a Pirate that has a crush on you launches you through the ship's storage room, out the roof, and then drops you into the ocean... because he wanted to know if you were done with your tea... Damn your good looks. You knew they'd kill you one day.
There are worse ways to die though. Choking on a peanut, for instance.
Your near lifeless body drifts to the bottom of the ocean at last. It's so peaceful now. So quiet. You feel calm as the waters move past your face. You're not angry or sad now. You wish it could have gone on longer, but looking back on your life, it wasn't that bad. You hope that Pirate doesn't feel too bad about killing you.
Time to become one with the shadows and drift into the nothingness of death, like all true ninjas. You close your eyes and wait for what's on the other side...
THE END
>Be the Other Girl.
YOU ARE A ROCKIN' AWESOME SHONINJA OF ULTIMATE POWER! YOU ARE 18! YOU HAVE DECIDED IT'S TIME TO HUNT DOWN YOUR RIVAL ONCE AND FOR ALL SO YOU CAN AT LAST SETTLE THE SCORE OF WHO IS MORE POWERFUL. YOU WILL WIN, OF COURSE! YOUR NAME IS DARK SMOKE PUNCHETTE, AND IT IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE IN THE SPOTLIGHT! WHAT DO YOU DO FIRST!?
Wait... Bottom of the Ocean? That doesn't take 20 seconds to hit. What's going on here? What are those wooden columns? This doesn't make sense.
Your Super Hitinja Near-Death Last-Minute Speed-Thinking can only come up with one explanation...
THE STUPID SHIP NEVER LEFT THE BAY!
TLL: Help her back on the ship and apologize.
If that horrible explosive scream coming from under the docks is any indication, you don't need to help her and probably shouldn't.
You climb back up and ask Laverne why he never told you that the ship was still in the dock.
He explains that you never asked. He didn't think it was important.
You calmly explain that you are going to start stabbing him now. You don't know when you'll stop. It's probably going to be painful.
What do you do now?
There we go. Bit more open-ended. You guys have "arrived" in a city and have some options open to you. You can run away, go find the guys that tried to kidnap you, get a drink, search for jobs, wait for the Wanderer to wake up, go retrieve one of your ancestral swords, or any other weird option. I'll leave this one up a while to get a good idea of where you guys want to go next. Feel free to have some fun with this.
TLL: Grab her hand and lift her up, explaining that stabbing people isn't a nice thing to do.
>LS: Prove that when you say you're drowning you mean it!
Or, for a serious suggestion:
>Prick the wanderer with your sword to wake him up.
TLL: Sweep her off her feet! Quite literally.
In my spare time I like to revive extinct animals, but then I kill them for exotic cuisine!
Added a panel I forgot to the update before the most recent one (it's panel after the "CRASH!" onomatopoeia in the bar scene). Not important, but the image adds a bit of pacing and flavor to the scene.
...And with that, I'm heading to bed. I'll update tomorrow.
In my spare time I like to revive extinct animals, but then I kill them for exotic cuisine!
> The ship has a gigantic hole in it, and probably is sinking. What the hell is K.O. doing? Shouldn't he wake up or something before he dies?
