I've been selling all manner of volatile elements, elementium ore, hardened elementium bars, green and blue quality gems, meta gems, herbs, and elixirs. I am bringing in a cool 6000+ gold per day. I learned my lesson from the previous expansions; you want tons of money, you grab and sell anything not nailed down at the start of one.

I did learn before I quit that high pre-BC ore was worth major dough on the AH. After a couple days of farming that stuff I made more money than I usually did in a week.

Volatile Fire sells for 25-30g each.
I've gotten 100 of them in roughly half an hour of actively working for them.

Oh yeah, if there are craftable pre-raiding items like the Saronite or Enchanted Saronite or whatever sets and the epic weapons in WOTLK that stuff sells like hotcakes. Unfortunately I chose to start a Death Knight (well, it was fortunate for a lot of reasons, but trade skills wasn't one) and was way behind on maxing my trade skills, so I didn't get to take advantage of things like selling my Titansteel Bars or Dragon's Eyes. It was pretty ridiculous when you could sell Dragon's Eyes for 400g and thus make 400g per day just doing one daily.

Low level crafting mats were also worth a ton for a while because of people either switching trade skills (often to JC because the exclusive gems were so laughably strong) or starting their DKs and needing to make up 60 levels of trade skilling. I suppose since the new stuff in Cata starts at level 1 it won't be so huge, but that's worth looking into as well.

It is absolutely ridiculous how much my damage output goes up just by putting poison on my weapon as a combat rogue. Like, any, even crippling poison, and I am instantly dropping them in half the time. Wat. Also I got epic flying by selling all the old junk in my bank. Hopefully I won't regret it too much once I start leveling my various lower leveled characters' professions.

My DK finally hit 425 enchanting so is now rolling in boondollars from funneled BoE's, and also apparently 22 Agility to cloak is selling for like 250g a scroll still? Even though the material price is still low? I just keep running random dungeons and disenchanting my quest rewards for parts.

I think you get the new quests regardless, but you won't be able to go past level 80.

You also cannot train Archeology, which I don't think really matters because how the fuck does it even work.

1. Hit Survey!
2. Look at where the spawned thing is pointing you, and what color the little light is. The light is always on the right side, and the color indicates how close you are- red for far away, green for very close, flashing speed indicates closeness too.
3. Run an appropriate distance Thataways, hit Survey again. If object spawns, proceed to 4. If not, go back to 1.
4. Loot object! Get XP. If you have enough fragments to complete an object, go to five. If not, go back to 1.
5. Complete artifact! Feel sense of accomplishment. Get XP. Go back to 1.

Do not complete objects until you reach level 75-90 archaeology though. Each project completed gives 5 skill levels regardless, but picking up artifact pieces stops giving levels around the 75-90 point.

I am currently playing a shitty little gnome rogue on a shitty little server on a shitty little trial account. Come Christmas day, I will own WotLK and Cataclysm, and I will upgrade my main account, and I will probably come and play with you cool dudes.

In unrelated news, however, thus far I have very much enjoyed what the Cataclysm did to the game. The changes in storytelling are especially interesting.

I think digging completely stops giving skill-ups at 100. It's just really slow for the last 5-10 points.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but you do have to exhaust one dig site completely before it will 'respawn', and as you gain proficiency in archaeology, you get more dig sites (up to 16 max, iirc).

I might have to reroll on Deathwing one of these days and check things out...!

Wow, raiding happening already?

The weirdest thing about playing vs. not playing WoW is the time dilation effect you have during playing. Every week is a huge advance in time in the game and feels like it took forever, while when not playing WoW a week is just enough time to delve into a new game or something. You realize when you're playing that yeah, a new raid boss or two down per week is pretty normal, and clearing a whole raid in 4 or so weeks is expected, but outside the game it seems like it should take way longer than a month to do something like that.
