Ah! Well, in that case, feel free to send me a message on AIM or something. (Better yet, I'll just go ahead and add you.)

How does one make a name for a song? I seriously don't know how pieces are named. I just kind of stringed random syllables that sound good together.
In other news why do I have fewer pieces' names starting with E and S combined than those whose names start with Q?
Oh man, I'm terrible at naming pieces. What I usually try to do is make up a title that provides a little bit of context to the song, or gives the audience something to imagine while listening. Some of the best song titles I've ever seen (gank sneakin', the ballad of ace lebaron) don't make much sense but still match the feel of the piece. A clever title (e.g. a play on words) is more likely to draw an audience, as well.
My process for naming is typically related to the story of the thing that was made... in my mind at least, or the way I work, everything has a story to it, either incidental or critical. With music it's a bit trickier, but an example would be...
so you write this big epic bombastic thing with lots of tubas and bassoons and crashes and fast violins and basically Escaflowne-esque goodness. Well, think about what that music would pair well with, visually or emotionally. Maybe it's about a kingdom at war, or a man trying to break out of jail... think of a situation that the music speaks about, and then name it after something involved in that situation. E.S. Posthumus did a great job of this by naming all of their songs after ancient ruins or locations that best evoke the music they made (Ebla, Pompeii, Tikal, Cuzco). There's an atmosphere, but there's also the story of the place.
For poetry, the name is usually descriptive, or a key line in the poem itself.
For fiction... shit, I still don't know. None of my long-form fiction has a good title, like, ever.
If I write a piece of music, I generally have a mood and a "base theme" (generally associated with one of the many "muses" I have, or else a Homestuck canon theme) in mind already. From there I free-associate. If I don't already have a character or mood associated, I whack the button on a random word generator until I get something I like.
Pretty much the same for fiction as for poetry, actually: if you use a key line, or the thematic center of the piece, it's probably going to work.
Yepppppp. I love Stephen Rippy and Kevin McMullan.
Fakedit: I'm okay with this being my 413th post.
I think out of any game made by Ensemble Studios, Age of Mythology was my favorite.
But Age of Empires III had the best music, in my opinion.
As far as names go, draw on the material from the piece, yes. For me, I find it hard to name tunes, so many times I simply don't.
Naming a song for me is different a lot of the time. If it's a remix though, I will generally relate it to the original title, even if no one else notices how it relates. I might have a name for it right away, or in the middle of the song, but I find it best to wait until it's done to name it. I usually name it after listening to it and than writing the feeling I get from the song, and using that. For one thing though, i kind of kept a naming theme for a set of songs, but that can prove to be difficult. Other times I relate it to the story it accompanies. Tons of different ways really. Then there's what Dacen does sometimes and just leave it untitled, but I can't find myself doing that.
Boy, do I feel bad being responsible for the first locked thread in the new subforum. At least it wasn't for rule breaking. (I am also not asking it to be unlocked or anything, and I'm glad the whole thing was sorted out peacefully! But I guess there is some sorta "karma" associated with seeing a locked topic. Oh well.)
To add to the current topic: I don't write music, but I have a feeling if I did, I'd just name my songs "Song #x". Not due a lack of ideas, it's just an interesting quirk to have, I think (and in fact anyone can steal the idea - I am sure someone else already does it anyway).

Yeah, freddiew's stuff is really cool. I don't know a single thing about video editing, but he does some pretty impressive stuff on a limited budget.
hey guys, i don't usually post here, but i have a question! Would this be the appropriate place to ask if anyone could identify a painting for me? or should i start a new thread for it on it's own? or should i just not ask at all lol.
Show the painting, we'll see what we can do.

Yes, show it.
Anyway, try at conceptart.org too, they are more likely to know
alright! I'll try there if you guys don't know it. It's at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, so it could be pretty well known and i could just be an idiot.
I didn't take this picture, a friend did a while ago, and she didn't remember any info, but i really like it and would like some info, so yeah, if you guys could help that would be great!
Oh an actual painting.
No, this is too much culture for me
Is it alright to post links to some neat programs I've found? I think the community would appreciate some free and nifty programs. I've started toying around with some alternate drawing/coloring programs and some of their functions blow Photoshop out of the water.
My knee-jerk reaction is Rembrandt, but the colors feel a little more smoothly blended than his usual work. I'll look into it a bit. I'm sure it's some other famous baroque artist if not him, I just can't think of any other names right now.
e: If you just like the look, though, Rembrandt is surely up your alley. You also might try googling baroque painting. I don't think I'm gonna be able to figure out who did that one specifically, there are over 300 pages of baroque paintings in the Philadelphia Museum of Art's online gallery.
