Oh man, this crap. Yeah, if I'm inactive for too long it marks posts as read, I just got back from going out and all sorts of posts I haven't read are being skipped when I open threads, and the rate this place moves makes that... troublesome at best.
Is there something this software is doing that makes it so much more of a drain on the server, or is it just the separate server itself not being quite as beefy? It seems odd that the thing we switched to trying to make things better is pummeling the server so heavily.
No, it's because the load has been far higher on this server, in terms of the number of people browsing/logging in, than it had been on the old servers. Hell, they just broke the record for number of people logged on this morning. Like, in /ever/.
So they're waiting for things to slow down before they a) make a search index or b) fiddle with settings for unread.
However, I'd really, really like them to fiddle with the unread settings as soon as possible. Yes, I do want to read threads once every two or three logins instead of every single time I login, and the new settings completely break the way I read MSPAFAs, which is to say, sporadically and in a rotating fashion.
Please?
Is there some way to actually see how many people are using the forum? I'm not seeing it.
My three adventures disappeared, and I only get my two first posts when searching my posts.
That, when the server isnt overheated or something.
Also, will we get our sigs back?
Okay, I can't send PM's.
I had 300 pm's, and it said I was allowed 200, max, 100 in my inbox, and 100 in my outbox. I deleted a pile so I now have ~50 in both, and it still says I can't send PM's.![]()
It was ·Azu -- but I only took that because "Azu" was taken.
Except, it wasn't actually taken. It was dormant for over a month after I sent an email (that was never answered!) to Andrew about it, and then for months after that. "Azu" wasn't on the member list when I tried joining, but it wouldn't let me take the name anyway. Over in IRC myself and a bunch of people determined that somebody had probably just never responded to a verification email. You'll note that they have no posts, no comments, no anything.
I want the name, but if I can't have it, the bullet point's fine with me.
When I try signing in from the boxes at the top of each page, Firefox requests to save my user name and password. My user name is recognized as "Password".
Whenever you get around to fixing the emoticons, you might want to get rid of the :P face. It causes the other ones to came out like this:
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
I sent one private message, and now it considers all the ones in my inbox unread!
I don't know if this is a bug or something, but:
I think the my account name has been borked from ANSI bastardisation. As both my user name and password has special characters, can anyone reset and (if possible) merge this one and the old one.
EDIT1: Here's the URL of my old account http://www.mspaforums.com/member.php...4%B7athe%C3%B0
Every few hours or so, all posts are marked unread.
I don't know how, but when I click on thread titles twice, it opens up a typing bar thing for the title, even on other people's threads, so I don't know if that changes the title for everybody or just me if I type a new one in,
I don't know if that's a bug or not
This seems to be due to a difference in encodings. Visually I can get both your old and new accounts names to look the same. Your old account name, as well as ALL old data, used UTF-8 for encoding. Your new one uses ISO-8859-1 and looks like this: Isora#311;atheð (please tell me you don't enter it exactly like that, cause that would be a big security hole if you do)
It seems that every thread before 4/13 has been deleted. I guess it's better if it helps the forum's speed, but it's still disappointing to lose some of the old adventures and treasure threads.
To follow up on that, it's only threads that haven't been posted to since that date. That is still however a lot of threads.
