    Guess what it's excellent.

All of those dumb reviewers who have some dumb issue with Chomet adapting Tati's work "disappointingly" can blow it out their dumb asses. I have basically no concept of who Jacques Tati was, but from what I have learned it is clear that Chomet did his own thing with the film and it stands on its own as a unique adaptation and not just an animated Monsieur Hulot film. That seemed like the whole point. Had they seen his other films?

If you enjoyed Les Triplettes de Belleville you must see it. You must.

How is a text ad for the soundtrack a special feature? A: It is not.

I'm probably getting myself worked up only to be left down, but this trailer is helping me hope....
I nearly shit myself last year when I found out this was a legit thing and not lost in development hell. And it looks so good and the people who saw it at sundance said it IS good. God I can't wait for this one.

In other news, who's gonna see the new Ghost Rider?

Actually the better question is who's going to see it ironically and who isn't.

I saw it ironically. Cage was funny in some parts, but only really in the beginning...it peaked early and was quite slow in parts.

Anyway, I liked this what if, I'm sure plenty of people could come up with equally good or even better ways of "fixing" the Episode I and how it sets up the rest of the trilogy, but this is good:

    So this is a thing.

In retrospect, the source material does honestly make a decent seed for a movie idea. What boggles my mind is the choice to A) go meta and run with the "this person is clearly out of their mind" angle instead of playing it straight, and B) making the story into a romantic comedy rather than the action and/or wacky-comedy plot that it would most obviously suggest.

    >get excited about Princess Mononoke

    >DVD has blaringly loud music and inaudibly quiet dialog

Can we just execute whoever started this horseshit, please? Publically. In the street. The world is worse off because of them. Nobody will miss them.

e: I am less mad on discovering that the problem is because all DVDs are mixed with surround sound nowadays ... and if you don't have six speakers, you're just fucked. That is dumb.

On my computer (in Media Player Classic), once I figured out how to adjust my speaker channels to put the center channel (where the dialog be) in the front of the mix, it was fine, but you can't do that shit on a PS2 or some shitty DVD player or something. There really just need to be an option in the audio menu for stereo sound. I don't see why that is such an issue.

The Thing was one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces.

In terms of concept, I believe it was one of the first that addressed shape-shifting aliens that absorbs and adapts other living thing's DNA.

Also the atmosphere was bang-on perfect.

Big Fish, I think there should be more about the son that just the father. Also I thought spectre would be a bit more spookier than that.

Phase IV is a beautifully shot movie that forgot to have an ending.

    Best thing

You guys, what cut of Blade Runner should I watch first? I am wary of the Final Cut because of digital shenanigans, but everyone says that one is the best. I still have a sour taste in my mouth from George Lucas basically ruining THX-1138 and Star Wars with new digital bullcrap. Does it matter how much closer it is to the director's original vision if it's heavily edited by new technology 30 years later?

I think I will start with the theatrical cut knowing the ending is dumb and see if I like the final cut any better after. I want to see the film how it looked when it was originally completed.

I feel like when films or music are digitally "improved" by fixing continuity errors or adding anachronistic special effects it undermines the historical context and impact they had. Rewriting history is bad! But at least with Blade Runner I have the option to see the theatrical cut unlike Lucas' films.

Also Snatcher copies the voiceover narration everyone seems to hate so I may as well experience it just to see what the deal is.

Watching Scott Pilgrim right now.Oh man I love this movie. The imagery, the humour, the comic book-style effects, the acting, it was all just perfect. Some people don't like it for reasons I'm yet to hear, but they are silly and poop. This movie is wonderful.

Oh gog, L'Illusionniste was, by far, the single worst movie I've ever seen. (And I liked Triplets of Belleville AND I've never even heard of the guy whose work it's supposedly an adaptation of.)

Its just, flat out, a bad movie, the story was unengaging, disjointed, and slow moving, the characters weren't relatable, the apparent message of the movie was factually inaccurate, and there were an excess of unanswered ambiguities, (the most notable being 'Was the girl supposed to be mentally disabled or something?' (and both possible answers to that raise further questions))

(BTW, I was going to say that its one saving grace is that it's not affiliated with a major film corporation, but according to its Wikipedia page its distributor in the USA is Sony Pictures, so it doesn't even have that anymore.)

John Carpenter's The Fog? More like John Carpenter's The Fog Machine! Oh ho ho ho!

For real though even his weak movies are pretty good.

Except for Mouth Of Madness I hated that

I'm always impressed with what Carpenter can do on a tight budget with cheap effects.

You'd have to excuse me if this was already posted, but even if it was, I think it's worth another listen. This is from the upcoming [IThe Hobbit[/I] movie, and it gets me really psyched to watch it.

Just finished Total Recall. I thought it was excellent. I especially liked the impressive effects (makeup could be slimier though. Looked too dry :[ ), and I was easily able to understand the complex plot. I also loved how easily they mingled it with what COULD be just an FX Action movie.

And what's more, ARNIE CROSS-DRESSING IN A SERIOUS FILM!

This looks excellent. I'm already really excited for it. Is any of the cast or crew the same from the Lord of the Rings?
