    The Bride of [Movie Chat]

A pristine chat thread! I pledge to edit puns into the title occasionally. I hope not to let you all down.

We're going to chat about movies because they're pretty dang cool! They combine a lot of disciplines: acting and theatricality, photography and artistic composition, editing and juxtaposition (like comics?), music, and plain old writing and scripting. A lot of the time, Hollywood degrades the worth of civilization. But boy when a movie is good, it is out of this world. Thousands of people worked together in unity to tell a story. And there's nothing more magical than a well told story.

Singin in the Rain is my favorite movie. I recommend it wholeheartedly!

xfactorinfinity recommends The Karate Kid remake:
Seriously this movie is pretty much a must-see and also see it in the theater and maybe even twice

I was going to see Karate Kid on the 12th, but that didn't pan out. Hopefully I'll make it today.

As long as The Karate Kid remake still has a training montage with "You're the Best" (forget if that's the actual title), I'll love it. :3

There seems to be a big nerd fight brewing on the nerd sites I visit between Toy Story 3 and HTTYD.
It's even worse when they start spamming mind numbing fanart.

Re: Movies 3: Return of the Chat

    how to train your dragon

it's the first dreamworks movie to hold its own against pixar since the first shrek

but yeah i'm thinking toy story three has a chance at being better

seeing as it actually is pixar

also the new karate kid doesn't have such a training montage, and it doesn't have the wax on or the wax off, but it doesn't need to

it's a genuinely actually good movie, standing on its own legs with no need for comparison to the originals

It's a Karate Kid remake more spiritually than literally- the characters and setting are both different but the overall general plot is mostly intact. It works.

The cinematography is fucking beautiful, the dialogue is absolutely never awful, the plotting is actually planned out well and the plot makes sense, the characters are lovable, and nobody does stupid things just because the plot demands that they need a personal crisis. In a lesser film, Dre would have made so many absurd faux pas to get him into trouble simply because he would need it to overcome the odds or whatever the fuck who cares

There isn't any of that clumsiness here.

It's a good movie. It might even be a great one. It's certainly going to be on my year-end list, and I wasn't fucking expecting that.

Jackie Chan beating up anything makes a great movie.

Okay I saw Karate Kid and I can totally vouch for XFactor's recommendation.

There was one scene in there that annoyed me (mostly because adding cultural artifacts to your movie basically guarantees that it will age poorly). The climax was great, though, and it's probably worth watching just for the final move.

    I watched Kynodontas last friday.

I enjoyed it a lot, but I couldn't tell why. It's a pretty weird movie and is kinda slow-paced, but the atmosphere is so fitting you don't even notice.

Four green slimers out of five. Recommended to everybody*. I'd watch it again.

*Except it features explicit sex, oh well who doesn't like sex.

This is widely considered one of Richard Burton's worst films but it's honestly one of the craziest and most entertaining '70s movies I've ever seen.

I have seen Splice and The A-Team as of yesterday.

Splice is one of the best horror films I've ever seen.

    The A-Team is stupidly fun.

    those are my verdicts

Splice looks genuinely freaky. How generic is it, is it worth seeing for anything besides adrenaline?

Re: Movies 3: Return of the Chati

It's the opposite of that kind of movie.

The adrenaline? That only happens at the end, really.

    There are no shock scares.

Just a horrifying sense of constant unease.

    It's well done.

XFac hasn't been the only one who recommended Splice, so yeah I should be seeing that.

Why isn't vulcanization a more common term

The world would be so much better if it was

I'm remaining hopefully optimistic about the new Toy Story movie, but I'm starting to get uneasy about it..

Splice looks awesome. I'm hoping to see both of them at some point this weekend.

Disney Pixar has done a crapload of advertising for this movie. I'd like to know how much they spend on advertising by the end of it - ambitious is an understatement.

When I saw that part of the trailer where they drop a tank from an airplane and one of the guys shoots down enemy helicopters with the tank as it's parachuting down, I kind of figured it'd be that kind of movie.

    They fly the tank.

    They fly it.

    The tank.

    Flies.

The climax was slightly disappointing but this is the kind of disappointing you get when something is less silly than everything else

this is that kind of movie

    it is worth it

All this time I thought Inland Empire was some sort of awful fever dream I had; it's sort of horrifying to know that is it not something I imagined.

That said, go watch inland empire and know true unease.

Well, I can safely say that any chance of me seeing that movie died with it existing.
