What really sold it for me, oddly enough, was the writing - not only did they heap on that wry humor and wordplay I oh so love1, but the characters seem reasonably real under the circumstances to boot2.

1"Polish Remover" is perhaps a darker example, but it's one of the ones that'll stick with you.
2 After waking up in mysterious environs, with no memory of how he got there, one of the main character's first questions to the omnipresent narrator is, "did you steal my wallet?" See also: wry humor.
I pretty much agree with everything in this and the previous post. My only real kvetches with it are practically the same ones already mentioned, especially since the really fun songs like Piano Jam and Guitar Sound were only introduced at the very end. I really wish there could have been a couple more songs that messed with the tempo or rhythm more, as well. The characterisation was actually remarkably solid, and I too was sold on the dry humor of the story. I wish I remember more of the item descriptions from that. I'm sure there's a wiki with all of them catalogued somewhere out there.

I just finished Ib, and I just got OFF, based on the suggestion of Triangle Man.

Ib was actually pretty cool! I'd say it and Yume Nikki are requirements to play if you are into that sort of suspenseful game. Lone Survivor was pretty good in that field, too.

I just started OFF, so nothing to report yet.

I think that this is a thing where the "oh i can't get the thing until the Bright/Dark moon so I might as well not go try" hurts you? Because it was really easy for me to do and figure out...

I downloaded and played the game for a lark. This game is what SBaHAJ the gmae would be like, for sure. An evil doctor even says the infamous "HE HE HE". It doesn't get any less surreal after the lewd keyboard section. I have to give it the credit that it had more continuity than I thought it would, seeing as eventually you actually fight a sunfish.

    1) Omg I love super crate box. That is what I did when the internet went out for three days.

    That. Is. What. I. Did.

    2) To link something within text, highlight the text and press the link button. Enter in your link, and it will do all of the work for you.

Of course! Because everyone knows that 1. to play it, you must have 8 hands at least and 2. that bax is an octopus.

    AAAAGHHGAAHAGJJAGHGH

So I've been playing myself a lot of VVVVVV, having not played it until it went on sale on steam and all. So far I've explored the entire left side of the map and nabbed all its trinkets (including Purest Unobtainium), and cleared out the Tower. Only now I'm going through that lab with the weird Kid Icarus screen wrapping mechanic, and I'm stuck on one trinket in particular. Anybody ever manage to nab the one in Edge Games? FUCKING edge games? Where you need to rapid-fire flip between like fifty little pink Pac-Man dudes in order to maybe not die assuming your flips were pixel-perfect? It doesn't look like it should be so hard but it SO IS, EUUGUHAGAH
seriously if any of you people actually managed to grab that thing

The rapid fire flips are very tricky, but they're the same timing through each set of them! You can do it!

    Hey, you took my recommendation!

I finally got to the last parts of the game, and I'm going to warn you...

...All I'm going to say is that it gets pretty damn crazy near the end. It never becomes 'HOLY SHIT' at all, but it remains vaguely disturbing the entire time, like something is seriously... 'off' about everything in the game...

Also, make sure you know where the 'Flee' button is because you will need to use it at one point.

(Hint - The working one is on the Batter's Menu.)

Edit - I am also obsessed with the game's regular battle music...

Edit Edit - Beat the game...I feel very unsettled right now...

    Indie games, eh?
I suppose I might be a little biased--and also a little questionable for my first post--but I helped design Velociraptor! Cannibalism! Which you're unlikely to have heard of before, unless you either a) saw it on kickstarter (we got featured in a weekly newsletter, and were on the front page for a week) or b) saw my posts on it on the Bay12 forums.

I've also been playing Endless Space recently. As well as getting back into AI War: Fleet Command.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but Distorted Travesty is a pretty neat metroidvania, that actually features Metroid, and Castlevania, and Super Mario World, and that's just the first 3 or so levels. I figured it might've passed people's radar, it got released 2 months ago.

While I'm plugging, Treasure Adventure Game; which I guess has been mentioned? The search function is maladjustfunctioning somehow.
LoMTaM is surprisingly similar to Earth, I sometimes can't say there is a real difference.

    DUDES

If you are a fan of oldschool Sonic than you need to try Freedom Planet immediately

It's derivative of the 16-bit Sonic games to the point of being an outright copy in some ways (graphics, animation), but it's really well-made. Even this one-level demo is very replayable. The stage is huge and there's a ton of routes and hidden stuff to find. The graphics and music, unoriginal as they are, are really nice too. My only complaint would be that it doesn't have the sheer sense of speed that the Sonic games do; many parts of the level are broken up by puzzle-y bits that force you to slow down. Still, really fun. Right now the full version has the distant release date of 2014, but hopefully they'll try to solicit Kickstarter support or something to get it made faster. I feel like this is a game to watch.
