I uh, the youtube tags still work the same, just everything AFTEr the v= part

but yeah that does seem pretty awesome, I never would have thought of a game using brooms as a main weapon.

L O V E is sort of what you would get if you took threw Minecraft and Gmod in a blender, and then let Claude Monet handle the art assets. Pretty much everything is procedurally generated, and the game play is focused more on Cooperation; you get a monolith, then you put it down somewhere to mark your settlement. Then you build your settlement with power plants and defences and all sorts of great stuff. Then you take on the AI. It's free form; it's artistic.

And it's one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen.

So... anyone heard of Frets On Fire, or the enhanced version, FoFix? It's a great freeware indie PC version of Guitar Hero/Rock Band.

Not that I have any... ulterior motives or anything.

Nope. No pimping of my own projects here.

Projects that definitely aren't in my signature.

CHARLES BARKLEY SHUT UP AND JAM GAIDEN.

    Nuff said.

Also, I play some roguelikes, like Nethack and ADOM. I'm pretty bad at those though.
Uh... flash games? There are some worthwhile flash games out there.

    And Cave Story of course.

AGH And also Eversion! How could I forget Eversion!

Haven't heard of it, but it has multiplayer and seems to be better with some other features, so I'll probably check it out.

(This thread hasn't been posted in for about two weeks so I don't know if I'm necroposting. It's still on the front page, and this is the most correct place for my post, and I don't see any rule about necroposting anyhow. OK.)

    Re: Posts above this one:

LOVE: Apparently the creator is a huge manchild, I heard that any remotely negative comment he receives on his blog gets deleted. But enough about that, wow. It's out? I thought I'd never see the day.
    >This weekend Love will be free to play for anyone who wants to.
O SHI- I BETTER GET GOING!
edit: my face when 4 FPS: :{ but from what little I did see, it really did look like a painting, how unique!

Eversion: love it, I made a post about it a really, really, REALLY long time ago (it might have even been back when this was gangbunch fora!) and some other guy was like "waah this game is too hard, shit game" good times man

Shut Up and Jam Gaiden: A-Amazing story. Interesting gameplay mechanics! Unfortunately I never finished the game, I should pick it back up.

Roguelikes: My favorite roguelike (my favorite game EVER, actually) is Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. I also highly recommend Desktop Dungeons, a more casual (but still difficult?) dungeon crawler based off of the aforementioned game.

WHAT I ACTUALLY CAME HERE TO POST ABOUT

    Under the Garden
This game won the TIGSource "A Game By Its Cover" competition, and it is beautiful and cooooool~
I am a sucker for simulation games, and this game has been described as a "sandbox-style 2D survival game" and also simulation and platformer and exploration. Here, let me just show you a picture that won't do the game any justice:

(There is an option to make the pixels "blurry" and to make them crisp. I LOVE me some crisp pixels, but I couldn't find any such screenshots, sadly. Also, in the actual game it lists how many days you've survived, there's a day/night cycle and different weather effects!)

The story is like, you're an old man living alone in the arctic wilderness, and it's hard out there, physically and mentally! You're old and your mind is fading, but the loss of sanity isn't a major part of the game, it's just there along with the many other illnesses you can get for losing all of your stamina (blue bar at bottom). The interface is very simple, but I can't comment on the difficulty. I find it hard though probably because I am really hasty/reckless in the way I play all games, and I count any total loss of stamina as a huge loss when it totally isn't.

EDIT: Also, the sound the old man makes when he falls into deep water is HORRIFYING, which I guess is more incentive for me not to play the game like a risky idiot

So I finally decided to check out that Dustforce thing above.

Best decision of my life. That game is seriously amazing. You get to be a ninja janitor. Who DOESN'T want to be a ninja janitor!?

The answer is nobody. Everybody wants to be a ninja janitor. All the bodies. All of them.

    Re: The indie game thread

Eversion is freaking amazing and the only one of my friends who had the patience to get past the first few levels without writing it off as some dinky platformer thought it was too creepy to keep playing. Right about the moment you hit the block's eyes out and the hands okay I've said too much.

desktop dungeons is kicking my ass. I've beaten the normal map with every character, I am currently trying to unlock the rest of the secret characters (how the hell are you supposed to beat the crypt with an assasin???) and I love the new diety system.

I am going to download me that game, those are some beautiful graphics. (Reibear you should totally check out my brother's game-in-progress, vertex. Link in my sig, feedback very welcome)

    Re: The indie game thread

^^^ As a person who isn't a huge fan of platformers and avoids scary things, I found myself not only loving the game, but collecting all of those... things (forgot ;_ to get the other ending! And yeah, the hands... I will never forget.

Did you unlock Vampire? In version 0051 he was by far the strongest, easiest to win character, and I beat everything except factory (didn't unlock it at the time) with him. I have a feeling they nerfed it though. PS I have transmuter and vampire unlocked :smug: :smug: :smug:

    One thing about the new deity system... I once took tikki tooki with a warlord and it kept saying something like "you're too clumsy, tikki tooki wants to make your life harder" but I don't know what I was doing wrong and I didn't see anything in the wiki about it ;_;
    PPS will check out Vertex

    Re: The indie game thread

It took me forever to figure out tikki tooki. He takes away points if you get hit in combat, which you normally are since you're shanking higher level characters. And he rewards you for taking out characters without getting hit. I rarely use that one, My favorite thing to do is get the earthmother's ultimate and then switch to another diety so I can kill those grasses. The earthmother used to suck now she rocks.

Huh it torns out I do have vampire unlocked, I must have somehow beaten crypt with assasin. The only things I have left to unlock are the 2 things below transmuter... both of the factory challenges. I have yet to beat the factory, but I think I managed it in the older version.
    Progress:
    9/18 for snake pit
    7/18 library
    4/18 crypt
and I got to the second level of the elf campaign thingy.

    Re: The indie game thread

On the topic of roguelikes: I am pretty bad at them. Desktop Dungeons is fun, but I have such a hard time, especially after the first time victory. I also love Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup. Alas, I have not gotten past about floor 15. And I have played that game a LOT. It's probably been mentioned before, but Spelunky is awesome, though that is another game I kinda suck at.

So anyone here heard of Elements: the Game? It's a flash based Trading Card Game similar to Magic: The Gathering, and I've gotten two of my roommates, as well as two of my pseudo-roommates hooked. It lacks the complexity of Magic, but it's probably the best online TCG I've played.

    Re: The indie game thread

Mr. Guy used to have a link to that game in his sig. I tried it out with a couple of my friends. It was alright for about a week, then we figured out the fastest way to make money, and from there it was just a boring grind-fest against comps. My friend tried out the testing site and there were about 3 or 4 winning strategies for pvp and I dunno, we didn't feel like spending the time to grind.

    Re: The indie game thread

Well, I guess I haven't gotten into the grind-fest portion of the game yet, or have gotten deep enough into the metagame to have those issues.

Because of this post I ended up trying Eversion and I do got to say it is amazing just because of how its done, and the part you are mentioning pretty much won the game for me since it pretty much shows what random/creepy kind of things could happen.

    Re: The indie game thread

Elements used to be much less of a grindfest, but then a whole bunch of recent changes (read: massive price hiking for upgrades and nerfing sundial) pretty much ensured that no newbie would ever reach the endgame without massive grinding (even AFTER the massive grinding involved getting to the point where you can start massively grinding for real) and that all of the oldbies would be secure in their power since all of the false gods were upgraded to "pulling every single piece of cheating shit out of my ass at the same time" and the only way to remotely have a chance of killing them involves having most, if not all upgraded card decks.

    Re: Elements
I love online card games, they are fun because cards but also no waiting for the opponent to think of a move
the problem with such games, however, is the massive grindfest, so I can't have fun trying out different deck ideas without hacking/terrible grinding, both suck the fun out of the game.

    Re: Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
floor 15 is pretty far imo, have you been trying different class combos, do you usually roll casters or what

Anyone else given Amnesia a try?

Honestly, this was the first time a game actually scared me since I played Silent Hill 2. It's good to see a game that relies on more than just shitty monster closets (i.e. Dead Space) to try to scare the player.

    Anyone ever play zeno clash?

    Re: The indie game thread

I heard about that a long time ago when it was first announced but never followed it. ACE Team goes back a long way. The farthest back I can remember is 1999 when they released a mod for Doom called Batman Doom which is exactly what it sounds like.

I'll definitely have to give it a try though. It looks pretty interesting.

Its nice to see some really nice looking 3d indie games. Are those for the computer, or are they on a system?

Did anybody try out paradise fort? I just got a crazy high score. It's really fun but you end up pressing the wrong button a lot.

    Re: The indie game thread

I was looking for the right board to start a topic in, but I suppose I'll just plug my work here, eh? -->Here<-- is a list of my indie game work to date. I feel kind of bad plugging myself, but I really do think you will enjoy my work!

I've been featured on indiegames blog a few times, you know. And Bytejacker, if you know of it. For GM users among you (and I've noticed a few,) my games tend to be featured/spotlighted on YoYoGames.

    Quick rundown of my games:
Assassin Blue is an action platformer where you fight ninjas and samurais, it has a bunch of cutscenes and a cool action movie sort of plot.
Dubloon is a mouse-controlled RPG adventure that prominently features pirates, it's my most recent finished work and by far my largest.
Crazy Over Goo is a mouse-controlled puzzle-y platforming game where you fling a ball of goo around levels. Simple to pick up, fun times.
CowboyKilla is an action platformer I made with someone else named Andrew Brophy for a competition, it's just a mindless sidescrolling murderfest of weapons and baddies.

    --------------

And with the self-plugging out of the way...
Spelunky is my favorite indie game AND also among my favorite games of all time, it is amazing, play it if you haven't already. I've also penned a few reviews on the Game Maker Community of good games, rather than bombard this with more links I'll just show you the board which lists a lot of great Windows games highlighted by Game Maker users:
