Anyway, I think this might have been posted before but still deserves mention

    http://www.warsow.net/

Warsow is amongst the best free games you can get in the net. Its a pretty original game, it takes the old quake 3 engine and somehow manages to make it look like an entirely different game, cartoony and surprisingly good looking and can be ran on most comps without problem. The gameplay is really fast paced, and takes a quite while to get used to (can be pretty frustrating to get the hang of it if you are used to games like CoD), lots of pros here, try to avoid the servers you usually find them in while you learn how to play.

Speed is pretty much what makes this game different from other shooters (you can even make your HUD tell you how fast you are going at any given moment), by bunny jumping you keep your speed constant, you can go increasing it by using a dash button , using weapon explosions on yourself and other tricks youll go learning. You can also wall jump, which is also an essential movement to the game

YES IM A BIG FAN OF IT OK

    (although not that good, really)

Haven and Hearth. An MORPG. Cause the playerbase is small. And it has to be. Because the server can't take a ton of people.

In addition to being a horrible pun that will dawn on you much later, it's a game in which you start with a character that's almost totally stupid, up to the point where you may be running or a part of a large town, and in the meanwhile trying to stay alive and learn enough so that you can make bigger things and fend off wild animals. Every single object in the game must be created by hand from raw materials.

If you decide to take it upon yourself to play this ridiculous, Dwarf Fortress like game, you should probably read some guides before doing stuff, since death is permanent, and we wouldn't want you to die too early, eh?

I'd just like to thank you for posting that. Definitely worth it.

And it inspired me to write a song which I will share with you here:

    Tower Of Heaven.

It's a short little thing, but pretty challenging. I'm looking for the two secrets I missed right now.

    Re: The indie game thread

I played a game called Subcondition J recently. It's really interesting.

Here's a quote from the author:

The idea behind this came from the theme "bricolage", meaning "a construction made of whatever materials are at hand; something created from a variety of available things". I went through a bunch of unfinished prototypes I had lying around, foetal games that will never see birth, and copied chunks of code out of each of them, pasted them into one file, and stuck some arbitrary interactions between them. There is a victory condition; it doesn't make much sense, but it is possible to reach a "you win" screen. Don't feel compelled to aim for this though, just do whatever.

    Re: The indie game thread

input please! My brother is working on another boss for his game and can't decide between 3 color schemes:

He prefers green, then red, then blue, but they're all good.

(if you haven't yet, check out the game, we could really use more feedback. Strangely enough the first demo got a LOT of attention, but the second demo went largely unnoticed. It's still very unfinished so there are few sounds and there is no music, but we're focusing on content and programming first)

    Re: The indie game thread

I think the green looks best too, judging from the screens of his game on the TIGS thread.

And I downloaded the demo, I might give some feedback when I actually have the time

    Re: The indie game thread

Ideally you should choose the color that matches the background, but I'd say either green or red. I'm leaning towards the red one.

I'm a fan of the green one, because it has nice contrast.

    coool thanks guys!

(also I say we but the game is 90% my brother's doing. Sometimes he gives it to me to do the tedious things while he draws new wizardry. Just we is shorter than saying my brother all the time)

Warning Forever is a procedurally generated boss shoot 'em up, and it's probably one of the best freeware shmups out there.

Also, this is probably the best freeware game collection on the internet. If it's free, it's probably on that website somewhere.

Warning Forever is awesome, nothing as fun as deliberately screwing the boss in different ways to see the possible combinations
