If it weren't for that I would probably love this game, but so far it's incredibly frustrating.
The music is great though. any idea what it's made with?

Apparently he got the music from elsewhere, so I'm not sure how to find that out. Here are the names of the music artists, at least, if you want to look it up yourself.

Igneous is a pretty kickass game in which you roll around as a Tiki totem. It's completely ridiculous in the best way possible.

Well, the latest version of Dwarf Fortress can run on Macs native, apparently. Other than that, get Wine. Or a more widely supported OS.

Or like a cheap laptop. The nice thing about indie games is they are generally not so needy, specs-wise.

(yaaaaay I started an important thread =D I feel useful now)

Digital: A Love Story. An adventure game. This is one of the best examples of good, unconventional interactive storytelling. It's good. Play it. It's free and also runs on any system, so you have no excuse.

The Flashbulb Madness is a pretty sweet game.

Unfortunately, the site is currently down for some reason (as of this post, 4/21/2010)...dunno when it'll go back up.

Mac versions of games are actually becoming more and more 'the norm.' The entire Humble Indie Bundle is 4mac, for instance. I'm finding reason less and less often to reboot into XP.

Also Valve is moving towards Mac compatiblity.

A Mac version of Game Maker is nearly out too.

Mac game maker huh? Would you be able to make a mac game on windows then? or would you have to reprogram it for the mac?

After some deliberation I have decided to post this here rather than revive my old thread for it: My brother has released a new demo for his game Vertex. For the few here who tried it the first time, most of the issues you guys pointed out have been fixed! It would be great to have your guys input on what he can do to improve it.

That's the annoying thing. Right now it looks like they're treating "GM4MAC" (ugly name) as a 'completely separate product.' No compatibility whatsoever, separate purchase as well. Then they'll try to merge the two products as a long-term goal.

That company is ran by a fairly large group of dumbasses. The only thing they have going for them is ownership of that original piece of code that is Game Maker.

In their defense, they dropped that logo for something significantly less offensive.

And I do actually like coding games for Game Maker.

Okay and he just made his post on TIGforums. Please check this out, we could really use some feedback on this game!

I used to post on TIGsauce a lot. I think someone here actually recognized me from there when I first joined. (illisid, was that you?) But I left because it was starting to get too clique-ish. I still lurk every now and then. It's a cool place, aside from a handful of snooty people.

Anyway, I am totally looking forward to Frozen Synapse. A very complex, very cool-looking tactics game.

I also wanna try Flotilla sometime, just haven't gotten around to it. It looks like a 3D version of Weird Worlds, which is one of my favorite indie games.

Nah I only just started posting on TIG like last week. And I really only do so to give feedback occasionally. Did you have the same username on TIG?

I do love GM, I just hate Yoyo.
Like Stephen said, it's run by idiots (coughcoughsandy).

Oh, must have been someone else, then. It was a while ago.

And yeah, I had the same username. I think I'm the only Stij on the internet.*

*probably! but I've seen it pop up in unexpected places, so you never know

Oh, we got Indie game lovers here?

Just so happens I'm an Indie game developer working on my first real game.

When it's done, I'll give you all exclusive access for 1 minute before its release.

Because I'm such a nice person.

Here's a little Japanese math puzzler I found about a year ago called Blocksum. You use your cursor to combine numbered blocks and add their numbers together to X. Get X number of those blocks together to start a combo and blow the blocks off the screen. For example, you can combine a 2 block and a 3 block to make a 5 block. Put at least five 5 blocks together and they blow up. Giant combos are possible this way.

Epilepsy warning, but it could be worse.

    Shmup time!

Jet's 'n' Guns Gold. It's not freeware (and the full version costs 40 dollars! ), but it's the best shmup I've played, and having played it for free (from a game giveaway that happened about a year ago), I would gladly fork over the money for it if I managed to lose my current copy.

On the freeware side, there's La Soeur de Barrage, which is foreign, untranslated, and completely fucking awesome. I've played through several times now without comprehending the story in the slightest, and it's worth it every time because this game has the craziest bullet patterns I've seen a shmup before.

    Re: The indie game thread

    Three things:

    1. Papabear that game looks really freaking cool and I need to download it.

    b) These two games look really cool, but they cost money Ah well they have demos and I'm downloading now to see if I like them.

Last: These two works in progress have recently caught my attention. This first is a platformer with strong kirby, yoshi's island, and megaman influences and it's VERY well done. The second is a space shooter type game and so far it's only an engine but DAMN is it a good engine.

So what is the best general programming language for games? I kinda want something that would work in a professional world, so Game Maker and RPG Maker and the like are out. Right now I'm trying to get Allegro working on C++ but it doesn't want to work no matter what I do.

Stij, that was me who recognized you.

I had been meaning to try out Night of the Cephalopods for a while, because it always seemed neat, with the whole narration thing. Never got around to it. Should really get around to it now.
