So I made a website.
It is an adventure mirroring site, designed to allow authors and readers of the MSPFA forums to easily create a "canon" layout for their adventures, making it easier to read, to show to friends or to just brag about.
You can sign up at any time, and can become an editor by simple demand: just contact one of the admins via a private message, Nixshadow or Violet CLM.
We'll get back to you as soon as we can! Please do not post permission requests in this thread, and don't forget to include your username!
Please note: Violet CLM will require you to have started your adventure already before making you an editor, and will request to see proof of this fact in your PM
The website is quite flexible. We are open to any suggestion or demand, and I encourage you to post any idea you have in this thread. If I have some free time, I'll try to incorporate them to the site. Please also report bugs if you find one!
Enjoy!
Useless first version of this post.
Version I:
So I made a website.
And it is for you.
I've recently come upon a handful of people in the RoomLand thread who were discussing the virtues of a mirror site for their favorite MSPFA. Two or three of them even created one.
I thought it was a great idea, so I put together a few old school projects, added sugar, spice and everything nice, and made this :
I made it so that authors and readers could easily create a "canon" layout for their adventures, making it easier to read, to show to friends or to just brag about.
And now, you can join the fun and mirror any adventure you like.
I have created two admin pages.
The first allows you to create a new adventure, and modify its info (author name, personal website, wiki, etc).
The second allows the addition of pages to the adventure, and the modification of said pages.
It is all real simple and pretty intuitive. I think.
Now I need your input.
SEVERAL THINGS TO CLEAR UP :
1) Okay first, I totally stole MSPA's html layout. So if you read this thread, Andrew, please let me know if it's okay. If it isn't, I'll change it.
2) Everyone can edit everything. That means anyone can deface, trash and destroy everything. There isn't really any "backup" system. I have removed the "delete" options from the public admin pages, and keep them in a supersikret place (it is not a big deal for you : even if you mess up, there are easy ways to correct it, as you'll see if you take a look). But still.
Should I only give access to the admin pages to people who ask for them ? Only to the authors ? Or can I trust the well-intentioned people of the MSPA forums ?
3) I guess the hosting site I use isn't exactly the greatest ever. If people end up using this website and problems arise, I can hand over the keys to someone with a sexy domain.
So, well.
What do you think ?
Do you have any suggestions ?
Version II:
So I made a website.
It is an adventure mirroring site, designed to allow authors and readers of the MSPFA forums to easily create a "canon" layout for their adventures, making it easier to read, to show to friends or to just brag about.
You can sign up at any time, and can become an editor by simple demand : just contact one of the admins. Remember to mention your username on the site when you do. Also I am often absent, contact another admin first if you want a quicker answer. Aka nixshadow .
I incorporated a "favorites" function, a users system and some customizing options for the layout to accomodate adventures with an unusual setup. A "comments" system was suggested, I may add it later.
The website is quite flexible. I am open to any suggestion or demand, and I encourage you to post any idea you have in this thread. If I have some free time, I'll try to incorporate them to the site. Please also report bugs if you find one, or even correct my English !
Enjoy !
Note: In a few months a brand new version of the site will be up, with awesome new features (RSS feed, partially automatized adventure mirrorring, edits of more than one page at a time, and more). Yay!
Hide the admin pages. DO it now. Just edit your post and delete them.

Cyclic, what brushes or textures do you use? I almost want to say it looks like the water overlay effect but that's not it. And it reminds me of lineless art in a way, but I'm pretty sure I've seen your sketches with lines (or am I hallucinating?? >_>). I can't quite place it, but I KNOW I've seen something like that coloring before but I know it wasn't the same and ARGHTHISISANNOYINGANDSILLY >_<
AND NOW I WILL DO SOME EXPLAINING~ (And fail at it because I am the worse teacher)
I guess I'll start this off with brushes and what program I use.
First off I use Photoshop CS5, it's pretty damn awesome and I recommend getting it.
As for brushes...I use many, including some downloaded ones.
Most of the brushes I use DO come with Photoshop.
Brushes
Sketching:
Normal Round Brush, opacity pen pressure turned on.
Coloring:
(Opacity varies, do whatever works best for you)
Round Brush
Rough Round Bristle
Oil Pastel Large
Watercolor Loaded Wet Flat Tip
Now that that's said, there are three things you must know about my art.
Lineart, I cannot do crisp lineart, I normally use the sketch and just clean it up a little.
Two Layers: Sketch + Coloring, they eventually get merged so I'm coloring on one layer eventually.
Adjustment Layers: I abuse the hell out of them, they are my best friends.
I start out with the sketch layer and color layer as separate. Eventually I merge them and clean up the sketch making it look "lineless" but not really. (if that makes any sense)
After that I use a variety of Adjustment layers and blending modes. It kinda varies with each picture…but I can provide a basis to go by!
Adjustment Layers, Layer Modes and etc.
^that little button gives a list of adjustments. Pretty handy~
Adjustment Layers:
Curves
Vibrance
Selective Color (Edit Neutral and Black colors only)
Solid Color (Normally Navy Blue set to Exclusion)
Layer Modes:
Multiply
Overlay
Soft Light
Exclusion (Used with Navy Blue solid color layer)
Helpful Things --------- RGB Channels:
Much better than using gradient map for black and white copies of your picture.
Image > Apply Image:
Make a new layer then use this option.
This option pretty much puts the merged copy of your picture on that one layer. It's really handy and it prevents you from having to lose your layers. (if…that makes any sense.)
In the drop down menu you can chose the color channel (RGB, Red, Green or Blue) pick the one that puts the most contrast on your picture. After that, set the blend mode to whatever suits you best.
^Should look like that, except blending should be set to normal not pin light
Lens Blur:
It's always nice to have a blurred border around your picture.
I pretty much do this all the time.
Masking:
I can't explain this too well, but maybe this tutorial can give some clarity: http://veredgf.fredfarm.com/tuts/mask/masking.html
Examples of Progress
Unfortunately I lost the extra lineart layer for the ghostyTrickster picture, so there's only two frames (Before adjustment layers and after adjustment layers.)
This picture shows the process better here:
1. Sketch, 2. Color, 3. Merge Lineart and color layer, color and clean up, 4. Adjustment Layers.
So this is pretty much what I do. I apologize if none of this makes noooooooo sense.

You should read thesetwo awesome webcomics! If you like them, join the forums and tell them that HaloKirby9 sent you.
This is great
I love how the management and adding new pages...page looks
It should be no problem using the theme, you might wanna make sure with the creators of those fanventures if it's okay though.
-edit-
Yeah, Hide the pages.
Make it so only people trustworthy can use it,
Aka. People who pm you and you give them the info and such.
And yeah, I'm not sure the admin-pages should be a free-for-all. I'd like to think that everyone on this forum is mature enough not to ruin this for everyone.... but yeah.
And you may want to PM Andrew directly about using his code.
1. I have a feeling this should be in the Meta subforum.
2. You should really restrict the admin stuff. I mean, I'm sure no one's going to be an ass and delete someone else's mirror, but there's no reason to take chances. People can PM you and ask for admin rights to create their own mirror.
At least if it's only people who ask for access to the admin pages that receive access, you have a sort-of list of who could be responsible if something goes horribly awry.
I'm assuming you're using some sort of SQL backend, why not add a users system?
Additionally, you can get some nice hosting for on the cheap. I pay $5/month for 500GB transfer and 20GB storage, and then domain names are $6/year if you use a .us.
Wow, this is way better than my crappy mirror. Thanks
I would say restrict editing privileges to the authors and/or well-intentioned fans of the adventure who specifically request it. This forum is not mature enough to handle unrestricted editing, as evidenced by past wiki vandalism.
This seems like a great way to mirror everyone's adventures, though I would caution that maybe not everyone would be OK with their work being saved and uploaded elsewhere. I know it may sound weird, but I've seen my share of cantankerous artists in my day.
All in all, though, good show! I think, with proper approval, this could be something stickied and kept in the MSPFA forum for easy browsing of in-process and finished adventures.
EDIT: I wouldn't mind helping you with hosting, though how much you trust Dreamhost and its shared server space, I am not sure. I think a nice domain like MSPFA or Mspaintfanadventures.com (or whatever) would be great if it got really big. I don't see the community going anywhere anytime soon.
Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn.
