I made something a little while ago that I kinda like (even though the balance is messed up) that is in the same genre as "skies of Skaia" - I'll try to figure out how to post it.

I once made several pretty chillaxed melodies with a ringtone generator. But the thing is, its a ringtone generator, and cursed to be nothing more than several endless loops.

I may try to stick them together with audacity some time.

Not at all the best quality, but at least I can share it. I call it "Recession".

For people interested in making chiptunes without a tracker, check out PXTone! http://homepage2.nifty.com/rochet/binar ... e_0914.zip

Once unzipped, look for and DELETE a file called "japanese.ico" which will make all the context menus and whatnot English.

Then just figure it out! :P

If you're into VST instruments or even just pasting together samples into music (there's a 70+Mb archive of .wav files for those interested):

    http://www.woolyss.free.fr/chipmusic.php

First and last page you'll ever need.

    Re: Music that YOU made!

Keep in mind I have no idea how to make music and just threw these together with a MIDI generator, and roughly glued the pieces together with audacity.

    This is my boss theme.

For some reason I can't help but think of this as being almost a railroad like tune. Travel of some kind.

This is probably one of my better ones. I tried to capture the carefree spirit of the halcyon days of summer or some bullshit like that. The ending I actually tried to remake like the individual instrument tracks were at one point in time, it was surprisingly difficult. x3

    Edit: lolforgotone.

    Wintery theme thing. :V OH GOD WHY ARE THEY GOING TO START PLAYING CHRISTMAS MUSIC AT THE START OF OCTOBER WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY THINKING ;_;

Oh hay, that's what Pixel used to make the music for Cave Story. Personally I think it's even more confusing then a tracker, but whatever.

No, but I really want to get it. Would you say it's worth it? I can get a student discount for it, so it won't be quite as expensive...

I just did this for Norivia's adventure Archipelago in a few hours.

It's my first chiptune ... and I am very happy with it. I guess I am not a complete failure after all!

Writing NES-style songs is really fast, easy and fun. I must do this again soon.

I too, have fallen under the spell of chiptunes.

Currently, FamiTracker is suiting my needs- once you figure out the ass-backwards composing methods in tracker software things get so easy. I'm trying to make an actual good one now.

I hate trackers. But I finally sat down and learned the ass-backwards composing methods! Here is the FamiTracker version of the above tune.

I like it. The simplistic nature compliments it better. I'm thinking about trying LSDJ, but it's used in a gameboy emulator... so that would be like using tracker software while wearing armored gauntlets. AKA it sounds really hard to compose on a gameboy emulator.

Been working on this for a couple of days. But im not sure where to go from here! I may just give up on it.
It was a bit of an experiment, to see if i could mix synths and guitars.

It's not depthful enough to be in Homestuck, but on another listenthrough it could be applied but not to much.

Ok, I've run into a dilema:

I downloaded toad, peach, and triforce from Tweakbench. The problem is, I can't find a composer that I can use these VST addons with. Does anyone have a recommendation for a composer to make 8-bit NES styled songs with?

Edit: I'm going to try out FamiTracker, but if you have an answer for my question, please tell me anyways in case I can't figure out the ass-backward methods of composition.

Download VSTHost (it's free), then find a sequencer VST to use with it. KVR Audio has a very good selection of VST plugins, and I'm sure you can find a good, easy-to-use sequencer program there.

Personally, I prefer trackers, since they were the first kind of music program I ever used, but whatever works for you.

You will find all you need to compose NES music. You can download directly from the website !

Example of few VSTi plugins for NES sound :

Woolyss is a website dedicated to chiptune/chipmusic/8bit music composing and audio tracking.
